As can be seen in the BTS for the upcoming Gower Quest, it looks like the Life Rune Altar will be released. For those unaware, the Life Rune was developed in Runescape Classic and is signified by a sunshine with rays on the rune, and it was intended to be used with Necromancy, but the entire update was never released in Classic.

The Altar, unsurprisingly, looks shattered and is probably useless for crafting any actual runes anymore.

My curiosity is this -- is it possible that we may perhaps find a way to restore the altar in the future? Or even if not, maybe we can find another use for it? Or maybe the wizards in the Runecrafting Guild can find a way to craft Life Runes without the altar? If so, what would Life Runes even do in the current game? An Elite Necromancy Skill sounds very plausible, but there's other ideas also.

Discuss!

Sadly considering the quest is nothing but a series of jokes and call backs only experienced players will get, I highly doubt we'll ever see it again.

I'm glad they made the life altar canon, and made a pretty reasonable excuse why they don't exist (anymore anyways). I worship Mah, for she is mah homegirl! The correct adjective for Mah's followers are: Mahomies, Mah-homeboys, or Mah-homegirls.

I don't want life runes, we already have nature, mind and body altars and we shouldn't mess up with spellbook anymore.

But I agree with implementing nonfunctional life altar as a cannon piece, it can even be used for something, except runes.

Once you were named Loremaster. That was many days past, and I was known by another name then. Do you remember? Does our time in the Light come back to you?

I chose to throw down my crown and walk as I had before. Did you, too?

Let's see. Cabbage mages, cabbage focus of quest, and fixing an issue with the anima that is preventing cabbages from simply regrowing.

I'm calling it now, the life altar and it's runes will be used by the Gower Brothers in practicing their ancient art of brassicalchemy (turning items into cabbages).

The most important question in this quest is if these "Gower brothers" are practicing their art with license from the Tower, or if they are rogue mages. Though the Tower is known to turn a blind eye to such types time to time, if they prove of use... "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' The tower is Saradominist Mage ruled, so there will be other branches. The only real advantage the Tower has is Runecrafting. Never forget the Zamorkians created the abyss shortcut to bypass having to go through the tower's strangle hold on production to get runes.

Yes there are shops but the shops rely on the tower's good graces for their supply as well.

If life runes were to start turning up, I'd watch the Zamorakian mages. Between the abyss and the ZMI one of both methods might be able to produce them with a little work. The altar is a gate to a folded dimension, only the Astral Altar is in Gielinor proper. The real question is; Is the altar that is broken, or just the gate?

The ZMI can produce random runes and the gate can be bypassed via the abyss...

Tower is not the one to decide who uses magic and who doesn't. Or have I not heard of something?
