Kindred Spirits was a good quest, but one thing really bothers me.

Sliske's knowledge of the player being able to respawn over and over again seems to either break the third wall or get very close to breaking the third wall. Nomad's Elegy bothers me in the same way. I really don't think game characters should know that players are able to respawn over and over again. It just really seems to break the third wall and makes killing the player kind of pointless for these characters. I wish Jagex would stop bringing up the player's respawn ability in quests, and if Jagex Mods were to modify the quests so that the references to player respawning were taken out, even better!

Well, idk about Nomad's Elegy, but it seems pretty obvious in Kindred Spirits..
Sliske mentioning this isn't just for laughs. There's a reason we respawn, and Sliske knows it's in our soul.. why do you think he wants it so badly? He wants to, among other things no doubt, cheat Death.. like we do.

Only then can they

themselves and forge their own

Can't say I've ever heard of breaking the third wall. This is more leaning on the fourth wall. After all, respawning is entirely canon in runescape, thus it is only to be expected that our mega-stalker Sliske would have notice after the first seven deaths.
Though I will give you that, under certain circumstances, it might not make sense for hardcore ironmen.

Well to be fair, OoaK revealed quite awhile ago that we are the only ones to re-spawn so at least we also have to fight enemies that don't stay dead.

I personally don't mind respawning lore. I think they did a good job connecting it to the anima mundi, fate, maybe world guardianness and all that shazam. I say good on Jagex for tying a tricky game mechanic into the lore.

I'd consider it a 4th wall break personally. I will never accept reswpaning as a canon thing outside of unique instances like Blood Runs Deep or Some Like it Cold. It diminishes the story far too much for me to see it as a serious part of the narrative. It takes away all the stakes, makes every npc sacrifice unnecessary and is all around a terrible and unnecessary addition to the lore that's there PURELY to explain what should just remain a game mechanic. -
I have noticed your kind does tend to blindly stumble forward towards danger simply because it exists. What is your word for that?
- We call it being a hero.

+1 (Yeah, I know, not the most refined comment to add. :P But this is so true and it bugged me so much too that it's been shoehorned into lore.)

It is objectively not breaking the fourth wall. That's all I have to say. Opinion does not change fact; the fact that the World Guardian is the only being able to respawn (in-universe) has not only been an established fact for a long, long time, (see: Sir Tiffy Cashien,) it counts as integration of gameplay and story - thus a fourth wall lean.

And really, it's not big enough to justify being uncomfortable with it. After all, just because we respawn doesn't exactly mean we respawn with our arms and legs intact in the event someone gets the clever idea to strip us of our limbs beforehand. ^_^
