Removing the Stone's power wouldn't have any direct impact on the curse itself. And that's effectively what happened anyway.

You are assuming your premise is correct and the gods did have their Stone Power drained. And we saw in Hero's Welcome that removing the Stone Power from a user does reduce the pull of the curse.

And if the maze affected the Dragonkin that doesn't necessarily mean Sliske had direct control over this power, or that it could be used against the Elders themselves. I would liken it to the United States military giving a single M16 to some primitive isolated tribe in South America; ultimately a single rifle (especially in the hands of a relative insect) can't be a threat against the entire armed forces.

We know that Jas wasn't particularly aware of what had been going on in the maze, requiring that we inform her of what had transpired. This means that Sliske was the one controlling whatever effects were occurring in the maze. This is corroborated by his surprise and subsequent muttering when Zaros and Seren were not expelled, claiming that they should have been cast out based on what She (presumably Jas) had said.

And being able to affect annul elder god magic to any degree presents the possibility that the technique can be extrapolated to a further degree. But none of that matters since, as I already said, one of the Dactyl, the Dragonkin who resist the curse, was still driven mad by it within the maze, indicating that it had no affect on the curse. No affect on the curse, no affect on the Kin's power.

I'm saying that either way, the gods were mortal. They didn't have any power from the Stone while they were in the maze. Whether the power they derived from the Stone was drained somewhere else, or if it simply dissipated temporarily, is the question.

Fair enough. As I said before, it was only a possibility.

You don't need to be a god to have SoJ power. We have some of it in the form of post quest rewards after WGS. V had to kill a god at some point to properly ascend. And, again ,removing SoJ power from a god KILLS them (source: Hero's Welcome).

So you're saying that while the gods were mortal, they retained their power from the Stone? Reasonable enough... I was under the impression that a substantial fraction of the false users' divine power came from the Stone, but I guess that's not necessarily true.

It probably is if the Stone is the only thing they used to gain most of their divine power.
Zamorak was a Mahjarrat, arguably the most powerful race to ever live, so he's easily the most powerful in "before they were gods."
Saradomin has held the Locator for so long, that any divine power it had has probably become part of him by now, plus he still wears it.
Armadyl was exposed to the Siphon for a long time, plus Aviansie by themselves are no pushovers. There's also the "other Item" he used.
Zaros and Seren are beings made up of sheer divine energy. Arguably just as powerful a source of it (if not more) as the Catalyst was.
A
World Guardian
must learn to find
Balance
in themselves.
Only then can they
Control
themselves and forge their own
Fate.

aren't they though? the ones you fight in the gwd are warriors, and probably not much stronger than a decent human at that... and the lot of them are pacifists by nature. You can't base the entire race of kree-arra :P

Would be interesting to see where the Guardians of Guthix fall in these rankings. I think they're definitely powerful enough to rank here, though some are naturally highly specialised.

:o

I totally forgot about them.

I'd say probably low t7. Feel free to hypothesize and I'll add them later
