You are assuming that when Wizards refer to "the abyss" they actually refer to Hostilius and that when they refer to a dimension they only refer to the portion of it that he resides in, and that means Hostilius is a nexus for teleportation? Well, I prefer to take it at face value.

When wizards refer to the properties of "the abyss" is expect it to refer to the actual abyss, not Hostilius. You're saying they have the same name, but do they really? Has Hostilius' area ever been referred to as "the abyss"? Think about it. As we've already established he is in the abyss. Why should people be referring to the demon Hostilius when they say "the abyss"? Because ZMI experiments and teleportation accidents placed us inside him? They clearly still use the word to describe the dimension, not that one part we visit.

The problem is simply that for the longest time, probably until the release of The Account of Aesa Fellsdottir, we erronously believed that Hostilius' insides were all there was to the abyss, because that's the only part we got to see, but it isn't. When Wizards talk of the abyss' relation to teleportation why should I expect it to just refer to this secluded area?

Actually from everything i've read in the lore i would say that if you removed hostilus from the equation then all the teleports would cease to function. Or atleast all the ones made from gilenorian magic such as spells, portals, loadstones and such. As you said there are other races like the demons and the dragonkin who can use their own style of teleports (interesting only those from the ancient worlds so far) but these arnt based on gilenorian magic which where the pathways of hostilus, they made their own paths. The gods too, i mean they're so powerful they could easily make their own pathways with their divine magic. Hostilus wasnt the only network of paths through the abyss, there was the elder pathways, the ones guthix made with the world gate

They all travel through the abyss but hostilus was just the method gilenor teleports used to do so, so without it they'd likely stop working until they find another network to base their spells on. I could see the world gate being a viable alternative when we fully open it up, maybe a future story/quest idea there. Perhaps when hostilus wakes up for his boss fight people notice others using teleports are being consumed by them, then leading onto a quest to change the beacon of the wizard tower from using the hostilus network to the world gate network. Which in turn could lead to getting the gate fully operational and open all the other planets for exploration. Just throwing ideas out there for possible future content

EDIT: Btw i say the hostilus rift was also called the abyss cus we know thats the name of the runecrafting portal location, and we know that place is actually hostilus

Except it isn't. When did it get a name of its own? Because when we travel to "the abyss" we travel to inside Hostilius? Well Hostilius is in the abyss so why would you think they're only referring to that tiny portion of it rather than the entire thing when they say "the abyss". When has the word "abyss" ever been used to refer to a single area and not the dimension as a whole? We just call that Runecrafting location the abyss because that's the part of the abyss we actually visit. That doesn't mean that when people say "abyss" they refer to two seperate things, Hostilius and the rest of it.

There is no source for Hostilius being a teleportation nexus. All lore claims teleportations happens through the abyss, and why should that refer to Hostilius alone and not the dimension as a whole?

Urgh right now i'm getting a headache, frankly i dont even know what the point to this whole thing was anymore...

Look guys i tried being nice and answering questions as they came with the lore i know, of which i've read over numerous times when i tried making my first picture. We know how the rough structure of the universe is from recent streams and such and we know hostilus is stretched out somewhere inbetween that. At this point does it even matter what he's used for anymore, i just explained it how i understand it and as far i can see it actually makes more sense when you add it up like this. If you see it another way then fine whatever, lets wait till next years stream

For your question on where was it ever said the rc nexus was called the abyss, just type in the abyss on the wiki and look what pops up. I have no idea what first called it that but EVERYONE knows thats what that place is called, and i've said my reasoning for relating it to the old teleport random event. That and in the dimension of disaster zaros did a similar thing to loarnab and that was STATED to have been made into a teleport pathway

I just wanted to make a picture, to update it with the new information and pass it through other lore hounds to check out and see if anything can be added to make the best definitive picture for all the lore fans. I would like to just get back to the point of it all but atm all this is sapping my interest -_-

Zaros made Loarnab into portal by which he moved his demonic legions into Gielinor. However, Loarnab only had just enough (or just a bit more than enough) energy to teleport all of the legions. After the last legion crossed over, Loarnab's last head turned to stone (indicative of a god's death). The only indication we have that Loarnab may have just barely survived maybe/kinda is the residual consciousness seen in his statue head in Dimension of Disaster and his apparent influence in Tolna's Rift.

Even accounting for the drastically reduced cost of teleportation to and from the same plane as opposed to the cost of teleporting between planes, it is fairly unlikely that Hostilius would have any energy left if he was being used like Loarnab was, but he is apparently still alive (he is planned to be a boss after all). Beyond that, the Abyss only became used as a detour in teleportation when the ritual was performed in the First Wizards Tower, with Law runes providing the energy for teleportation.

So no, they are not the same thing and there is nothing to indicate the same thing.

Also, from the Account of Aesa Fellsdottir (Part 2):

Even
Hostilius was butchered and dragged into the Abyss.
There he languished, strung between worlds like a great corpse-puppet. His remaining subjects fell once more to cannibalism, frantically attempting to hoard enough power to survive. When defeated and exiled, many of them made their way to his bloated bulk and infested it, crawling over and inside the dead flesh like so many flies and maggots.

As for Cacus, he fought for his sundered home, lost, and was forced out.
He eschewed his kin - who scavenged and picked over the remains of their once-master - and made his own way into the great beyond. There he stayed for an age, accompanied only by wretched self-pity and thoughts of revenge. He fed on the detritus brought to him on Abyssal currents
, and scratched his inscrutable thoughts on parchment fastened to his own body, in order that they would not drift away. After long aeons,
the ebb and flow of the Abyss brought him close to our world,
and he was filled with hunger - both for living meat and for dominion over others.

Hostilius is very clearly within the Abyss, and Cacus (the Penance King) was able to leave Hostilius's corpse behind and eventually his journey within the Abyss but away from Hostilius brought him close to Gielinor. Also, from the same source:

He could see me. His great mouth gaped, and he swallowed my dream-soul whole.

Now when I awaken each morning it is without feverish sweats, for I am a being with no soul. He has devoured it entirely. When my body dies, he will rend it from within and make from it the entrance he requires.

Which indeed came to pass. This indicates that Chthonians of sufficient power are capable of pulling themselves onto a plane if they can latch onto something within it. This gives new meaning behind the rifts within Hostilius. As the ZMI (who discovered this section of Hostilius's corpse) take no credit for their creation, it appears that they might be Hostilius's own attempt to pull himself into Gielinor much like Cacus did though requiring a far stronger thing(s) to latch onto to account for his much greater level of power (in this case, the transplanar rifts created by Guthix with the elder blade between Gielinor and various elemental planes).
