We know Azzanadra started hearing things. His memory makes this fairly clear as he claims to feel Zaros's approving his actions before literally claiming to hear Zaros's voice in his head (though given the Old Blood LaH, that might just be an after effect from spending time in Zaros's presence).

And as for Azzy needing Arrav to deal with Zemo, I'd like to point out that Azzy didn't fight Zemo in RotM (if I'm not mistaken, Sliske's Barrows Brothers were handling that), and that it was Wahisietal that asked us to free Arrav and sic him on Zemouregal. Azzanadra was the only one at the Ritual to actually hurt Lucien besides the dragonkin (although he was boosted by Zaros's power courtesy of the beacons we had placed earlier).

But even if we disregard that, I'd like to point out that Wahisietal of all people was able to duel Lucien and maintain a stalemate (and Lucien was hopped up on SoJ power and wielded the SoA). Comparing power based on who couldn't take out who doesn't really work.

I also remember Wahisietel being able to fend off Lucien.. legit, right?

Sure, why not? Even Den could go fight Nex without immediately being OHKO. =P It's not like Wahisietel was winning or anything.

The Barrows Brothers were fighting Arrav while Zemourgal was beating Azzanadra.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

This.
Zemouregal, according to his father, has quite a bit of potential in him.
We've seen him go toe to toe with Azzanadra, with Azzanadra's only feat thus far is channeling Zaros' power through a ritual on Lucien.
Either Azzanadra is not as strong as some think, or Zemouregal is being largely underestimated.

Or, as we already pointed out with Wahi vs Lucien. Being able to stay in combat with somebody for an extended period of time does not make you as or more powerful than said person.

Honestly, I think they messed up the fights in RoTM. Lucien should have fought Azzanadra, and Wahi shoul have fought Zem instead. Tiffy also somehow survives dueling with Hazeel, which is a bit questionable.

Such is the folly of pre sixth age lore.

Things are a lot more concrete now, thankfully

And why shouldn't he? He's doing fine in DoD Falador and is pretty much a certifiable badass. Also Akrisae was offering support. Not to mention that this was before the actual ritual and some of the Mahjarrat (particularly Azzanadra, Hazeel, Akthanakos, Enakhra, etc.) were really weak from missing so many of them.

EDIT: Looking back, I wonder if Zemourgal was fighting Azzy before the ritual too? That'd explain everything.

The mahjarrat aren't, or weren't prior to CoM, nearly as untouchable as some sources make them out to be. They're powerful, yes, but other races are perfectly capable of challenging them. Sir Tiffy was able to survive Khazard and Hazeel (with help). Viggora, Lowerniel, and Thammaron were picked by Zamorak rather than a number of other mahjarrat (part of that was trust, but Zemouregal managed to make the cut). Jerrod was able to go toe to toe with Moia's apparition (who were supposedly of equal power to their counterparts) and several wights at the same time. Some of the mahjarrat have additional abilities that they're particularly skilled in (necromancy, shadow realm manipulation, etc.) which make them exceptionally useful, but skilled opponents still pose a challenge in personal combat. Of course, the extent of their capabilities also varies greatly between individuals.

I have to admit it's pretty cool to have a badass british dude with a monocle so I can't really complain too much about that.
