I don't really see the point of using the in-game fighting at the ritual site as an accurate display of strength. Whilst it may have been better before EoC in Rotm now all the mahjarrat have low combat levels (Lucien empowered by SoJ and SoA has a combat level of 109). In my mind the fighting at the ritual site is just meant to represent the chaos and conflict of the situation.

We have J-mod quotes and examples from the actual Lore that reflect the actual strength and power of the mahjarrat.

Now that I think about it, Kharshai was the same tier as Azzanadra and yet Enakhra was able to beat him and force him into hiding....so I doubt the difference in Mahjarrat tiers is all that significant.

The combat levels weren't there for gameplay reasons since we didn't fight them. And honestly, the EoC combat levels make much more sense. We shouldn't be able to beat a level 1000 monster. Everyone monster over level 400 should be able to OHKO us, but that's not the case.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

Nabor got locked away deep in the Senntisten Asylums by Azzanadra. I reckon they got into a fight when Nabor questioned Azzanadra's sanity.
I'm out of breath, and you're out of time.

...Oh shit, maybe that was the dirt he had on Azzanadra...

Oh dear. I went back to the quest to confirm my suspicions:

"Poor old Nabor, locked up in his own prison, what irony! And they say I'm the cruel one. Sliske is disappointed, Azzanadra, you've left your stink here. What dirt did my boy Nabor have on you?" -Sliske's Ramblings

Crap.

I certainly hope we don't have to, say, time travel back into the second age or so and burn Azzanadra from the record books at the asylum.
Headcanon Haven, where everything is made up and the points don't matter.

That's pretty damning.

It also brings to mind Azzanadra's examine text: "A seemingly honorable Mahjarrat."
Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.

I believe it has something to do with why he was imprisoned in the Jaldraocht. If Saradomin and Zamorak were trying to erase the Zarosian empire, why didn't they kill him? Why bind his power into 4 crystals? I think he's far more powerful than we suspect. TFW You can't decide between support Zamorak or Zaros.

Most likely because at the time there were still enough Zamorakian Mahjarrat to, as Zemouregal states, 'handle him'. Because of the rituals, there is very little point killing him when you could sacrifice him later when you actually need the benefits.

As we don't know the specifics this is all speculation though.

Killing him would be much much easier, but then that'd be a loss for all the Mahjarrat. As DoD Zemourgal says, it's better to keep him stored until they need him. Even Lucien wanted to avoid killing his fellow Mahjarrat until his hand was forced.

Yeah, every unnecessary Mahjarrat death is like 500 years off the entire group's life expectancy, or it was anyway, at that point.

I wonder if that will change with CoM and we'll see Mahjarrat more prone to confrontation now they don't have to worry about 'keeping the gloves on', so to speak.
"We call it being a hero"
"That's interesting, we call it utter stupidity"
