OSRS is too different for a simple change to have affected things massively.

You can't really explain a continent appearing out of nowhere, the lack of the Abbey, the Ilujanka apparently being alive and on Zeah, Glough on steroids and with seemingly no connection to Arposandra, ect.

Also, Sliske is referenced in OSRS.

I have always wondered, when a reality splits due to divergence in events that 'could happen' why can further change from the original not spawn as well. There is bound to be more 'woulda coulda shoulda' of potential realties in the whatever is in between. Not fully realised in and of themselves, but with a fully forming divergent reality in the equation, could it not pick up a few of these rogue pieces during the splitting process? Like a charged ion trying to reach a stable state.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with alternate dimension:

- Zaros got drunk and ended up in some islands. Therefore the Edicts of Guthix wouldn't be as powerful, or existent.

- Therefore, zamorak may very well be a true god, and not just a pretender (same may go for the other gods, perhaps the God Letters might be canon in osrs?)

- Zeah.

- shieldbows don't exist

- Monkey Madness 2.

Where is he referenced in OSRS? I did lots of looking but didn't find any references.

He's referenced in the book at the Barrows, albeit not by name.

He was also referenced by name in a postbag in 2007 before the initial OSRS build date.
You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

Yea, but I don't think he's mentioned by name anywhere in-game. In my opinion, OSRS lore should all be in-game; I don't like the idea of people not understanding storylines just because they don't read the postbags.

My headcanon is that OSRS is an alternate timeline branching off because of some difference during the God Wars. A small, but significant difference that caused things to proceed similarly to the RS3 timeline, but with some differences.

Just what all those changes and differences are has yet to be determined, as the known differences raise more questions than they answer.

Does Zeah exist in the RS3 timeline? Did it ever? Is it still around, or did the dragonkin or the God Wars destroy it in the RS3 timeline?

The Staff of Armadyl appears to exist in the OSRS timeline, but does it have power? Is it even the real Staff?

The Stone of Jas, according to lore found in Melzar's Maze, and to the Oracle, exists in the OSRS timeline, but is it still on Gielinor? Is it hidden in the same place, or somewhere different?

I think it's clear, however, that most of the backstories are the same (i.e. Guthix ended the God Wars because he had seen them happen before on his own homeworld and was horrified to see them happening on Gielinor, Zamorak's motivations for betraying Zaros, and so forth). So yes, the characters and their motivations and goals and so forth are the same. It's just that some things might go differently due to various elements.

Oh, and it's clear the Eastern Lands exist in OSR3 because of Shanomi of the Warriors Guild and the trader in Phasmatys.

This thread has aged in a weird way. 2k18 and we got GWD and the dragonkin.

Let's refer to how, in theory, alternative universes are made, and let's say that something happened in the year 169 of the Fifth Age happened - specifically on the day, content-wise, corresponding to the 10th August 2007, which changed the curses of things forever.

To me, that's the only considerable explanation.

I like that considerable explination, but I'd think it's just another reality, one that, like dimension of disaster, is a "what if" scenario. For short, Old School would take place in a reality where Orlando was not funded (or failed) to discover Guthix's resting place, leaving Gielinor to remain in the year 169 of the fifth age, or just overall in the fifth age with a different year.

This leaves us with our counterpart in that reality not being the world guardian, and most stuff discovered in the 6th age (and only in the sixth age) to be left hidden. Of course this gives us a MUCH longer adventure before heading towards Zeah, Wushanko and to Menaphos it self.

Now of course in-game Old school still has area that they can't reach that Runescape 3 has reached(Like Prifddinas, Wushanko, ect.) But in a lore Prespective, our counterpart have already reached those area, probably before or after us (or maybe in the same time?) Of course anything we discovered in the 6th age in RS3, OSRS had discovered first. Like Zeah for example, it is still an undiscovered land for us in RS3

SO over all it's just a reality where Guthix is still alive and asleep.

people seem to like the idea of alternate worlds where only one decision is different and forget about the (literally) countless others where far more than one decision is different

but you *can* explain continents popping out of nowhere when they're game updates in rs3?

the abbey could totally exist in osrs, you just cant see it because scale theory, and zeah could totally exist in rs3, it just hasnt occured to the player yet to go there and everyone you talk to has more important concerns then talking about a continent that means nothing to them

like, australia's existed since before you were born, but at some point in your life you did learn it existed, and in some people's lives, they'll actually go there
But for most people, they don't care enough to go there, and most people in their lives don't really mention it much (and when they do, it doesn't really stand out)
