I'm not normally one to moan, I really like the new update with the mining and smithing but I have tried to make some items tonight, I tried with some rune items (start small aim high).

It has taken me just over 2 hours to make 84 long swords....

This is very slow.... compared to how it used to be.... very painful to do.

Am I missing something or is there some way of making it seem less harmful/painful to do??

Thanks

If your intention is just to gain xp you will have comparable (or even better) rates than before. If you need material for invention it might be worth to augment a crystal hammer with the breakdown perk. The crystal hammer will give you a chance at additional progress as well.

If you want to afk the whole thing it might be worth getting an autoheater and/or the superheat form, since the lack of attention will slow you down considerably otherwise.

Otherwise perfect juju smithing potion could speed you up a bit as well.

Hi Rikornak, I'm not after the exp as such. I was using it as a way to make a certain amount of money back. I'm not that far through invention at the moment, so I've not come across the breakdown for a crystal hammer.

What is an auto heater??

You cant really afk smithing any more as you can only make 1 item at a time.

It just seems now that making items is very slow.... it used to be quicker but now it is painful to do for how many I'm making per hour :-(

As for profit I would focus on making maximum upgrades for each item (instead of smithing a lot of baseline ones) and sell them shorty before the bxp weekend, since those can be sacrificed for a hefty amount of experience by making them to burial armour (that only works for adamant and higher though). Since high levelled armours and especially their upgrades take quite a bit of time you'll be busy longer than for a full inventory of stuff before the rework. In terms of the amount of items produced it is significantly slower than before, but that makes each individual item more valuable.

The autoheater is a dungeoneering reward bought for 4k tokens - it bascially re-heats your item at the expensive of 5 coal taken from your metal bank as soon as it runs out of heat. Combined with the super heat form it allows you at least to smith with the speed of a medium heat item at all times. So it is slower than doing it fully manually, but that way you wouldn't be needed to pay attention until you want to start the next item.
