Hello fellow RuneScapers! I do not know if anyone else has noticed this discrepancy but I have noticed that, while smelting necronium bars on my Lv 75 smithing HCIM, the speed increase benefit from leveling does not appear to work as intended. More than half the times I click to smelt a set of 60 bars, I get a timer of 144 seconds; other times I get 108 seconds.

If I am paying attention to smelting, I can see when it does the 144 second timer instead of the 108 second timer. I can click on the furnace again and potentially get 108 second timer instead but it is a hassle to have to reclick.

Now, the issue here lies in the wording for the level benefit. It states on level 75 of the smithing level benefits, " smelt necronium 25% faster". To me that does not say that there is a 25% chance it will smelt quicker. I interpret that as I will be able to always smelt 25% faster than I had prior to that level. But instead, I get an occasional boost in speed.

The next discrepancy I have noticed is the speed I am smelting 60 bars of necronium with a 25% speed increase is equal to speed I can smelt 60 lower tier bars (like mithril) with a 50% speed increase. This tells me one of two things: smelting mithril is either harder to smelt and requires the 50% increase to be up to speed as necronium with 25%; or that the increase of 50% does not do squat.

Let us do some math. The baseline speed for smelting 60 Necronium is 144 seconds prior to level 75. Then at 75 you get the 25% increase in speed.

144 x .75 = 108 seconds. This is correct, but it is not always 108 seconds. Alternates between 144 and 108 seconds. more often the 144 second timer.

*NOTE: All ores, both low and high tier have a base smelting speed of 144 seconds for 60 bars.* Lower tier bars, which supposedly have the activated 50% speed increase, should follow the equation below.

Continued on next post.

144 x 0.5 = 72 seconds.

However, I do not get this speed when smelting mithril. I get consistently get 108 seconds. If we are to believe that the smelting benefit is in effect, the following equation would show the correct baseline smelting speed for 60 Mithril.

108 / 0.5 = 216 seconds.

So where is this benefit for leveling they describe in the skill log? It does not appear to be functional or even implemented. Sure, the 25% is in place, but that has an erratic activation. What do you lot think about this? Do you get the same issue?
