Hello fellow clanmates,

For all of you interested in discontinued items and their prices, I am sharing with you a whole lot of price data and statistics stretching from 2003 to 2019.

While my intention has been to find as accurate a price representation as possible for the entire history of the discontinued prices, the availability of recorded prices puts limitations on the accuracy and sampling rate of the disc. item prices.

The price-graphs should be viewed as an honest attempt at representing the historical price developement of rares and not as a supplier of "THE PRICE" week by week or otherwise.

Below the graphs i describe the sources and problems with some of the price data, for those of you concerned with this, which i hope all of you are in this day and age.

You are welcome to ask questions or request other comparisons/data. If you happen to have price data from 2007-2008 or can offer any other corrections/improvements to the graphs, I would be very greatful.

Thanks you, and enjoy.

Edit: Updated graphs, May 2019.

Period: [june 2016 - 2019]

Price accuracy:

Prices from this period is the most reliable data used in the graphs and it is generally within 1-2% of the "true price"

Sources:

Data taken almost exclusivly from discontinued item status threads by Lyra on offical rs forums, via R quark fc and other contributors, from posts made by the reliable suppliers of pricing "lines". Partyhat and bsh prices from weighted average calculations of trade compilations, previously posted by 'I scope'.
In instances of high trading activity within one day, an average is used. In rare instances where a price is clearly outdated and i personally had access to a more accurate price, these are used (applies only to edible prices which are updated infrequently).
Data is sampled every other day, and thus represent the prices well.
-----------

Period: [2014 - june 2016]

Price accuracy:

High accuracy : often within a few %, with the following exceptions: Black santa hat is missing some data points due to very large (>15%+ uncertainity of price in months of high voilatility and price changes).Disk price during much of 2015 is less reliable (possibly 10% uncertainity or more).Pumpkin and wreath have a couple of data points where the price is interpolated, due to lack of data.

Sources:

Prices of santa, h ween masks and scythe are based on ge medium (average) prices which is generally representative given that the sampling rate used for the graphs is 1 data point per 2 weeks whereas ge updates for these items are more regularly.
Only in periods of extreme price rises are these incorrect to more than a few %. Partyhat street prices taken exclusivly from compilations done in Discontinued item status threads, and thus suffer the problems of selective and irregular price updates and occational manipulation but nevertheless the averages tend to be reliable except when market moves quickly and averages do not keep up.

Prices of BSH, wreath, disk and pumpkin is of mixed origin. Much data from rare quark and logged merchanting deals on a well known site for this purpose. Remaining data directly from rs wiki price graphs and/or disc. item thread.
----------

Period:
[2011-2014 - Return of free trade]

---------------------------
Period: [june 2008-2011 - After wildy and unbalanced trade is removed and Grand Exchange is introduced with trade limitations/restrictions]

Price accuracy:

H'ween masks and santa has high accuracy the whole period (except a few occations of extreme price changes and voilatility), however the prices of edibles are generally (sverely) underestimated for most of the period.
No representative partyhat prices exists due to 1% unbalanced trade restrictions and 1% ge cap on prices, junk-trading street prices exists but are hard to convert and compare with pure gp prices.
Partyhats and edibles (particularly disk and pumpkin and wine) were (almost) unbuyable in ge, with price constantly capped at the (+x% from GE medium price) during this period. The items were instead traded together with "junk items" (from pump and dump schemes) to circumvent the limitations of the incorrect pricing and unbalanced trade restrictions.

Sources:

GE medium prices from rs wiki price graphs where such are deemed good enough to be used without misrepresenting the market. (I.e for santas and h'masks which updated requalrly and thus were not capped to +5 (1) % min/max ge limits of the time.
Of the partyhat prices, only purple is included for a general overview of the price trend but should be viewed as a lower bound.

Period: [june 2006-june 2008 - pre Grand Exchange era, peak of rs population, W2 Falador park trading]

Price accuracy:

Prices from this period is scarce, particularly for edibles and partyhats. Only a small number of price reports from 2007 where fround and so price is interpolated and very uncertain, possibly should have been excluded altogether until more data is found. For Santa and h'ween masks it is good enough to be included (Price correct to within 10% or so).

Sources:

Prices for disc. items from the glory days of rs is suprisingly scarce. Only available prices i found are sporadic prices collected from all kinds of sources, price guides/conversations on old fansite forums, yt videos showing the trading activity in W2, screenshots etc.
---------------------------
Period: [2003-june 2006 - Runescape classic days close to release of disc. items and during partyhat dupe and early days of Rs2]
Price accuracy: High accuracy across all rares, mostly within a 5% or less owing to a regular price documentation from the time period.

Sources:
Almost purely from Duke Freedom's price graphs, complemented with various independent confirmations and extentions of the data from fan site posts and price guides.

----
Wish to give a thanks the following sources:

Discontinued status thread (R quark disc. item pcing and (almost) all its contributors) - For supplying daily rare price reports since 2012.

Duke freedom - master merchant from 2006 (one of the richest there ever was) - for supplying (most of) the accurate pre 2006 price documentation.

Divine - old friend and outstanding merchant - for co-founding a well known site for runescape merchanting logs/ etc. serving as an excelent source of rare street prices for past 5 or so years.

rs (now official) wiki - For supplying grand exchange price data since 2008.

Random yt:ers and fan site posters - for sharing their excitement or frustrations with the changing rare prices throuout the years.
