Evening All,

Was at fishing trawler last night, went to bed, got home from work, I’m somehow in edgeville 40m bank cleaned. I have a pin which relates in no way to my username.

People say you won’t get anything back, but I’m calling on the legal rights as a consumer, and the fact the seller has an obligation to protect within the platform, and compensate any real world loss. I’m sure they can see who took my account from a totally different IP, killed me many times in the wildy for my bank.

Your PSN, or steam account gets hacked, you get reimbursed. Someone give me faith in that I won’t need to complain to consumer rights, or Paypal for mismanagement of credentials.

Hiya, SirNorfolk94 :)

Unfortunately Jagex doesn't return items due to Hijack, nor are Jagex lawfully obligated to return items due to hijack.

''Unless required by law, we will not refund any amounts paid in relation to subscriptions, Micro-Game Credits, RuneScape Bonds or Virtual Currency when:

You have been the victim of in-game scamming, as there are many warnings about avoiding this on the Jagex Products (however, we will try to assist you to recover your account).''
Source: Jagex's T&C.

You're however able to report the incident to tipoff@jagex.com and Jagex will investigate the case and take appropriate action against those responsible. You can read more about lost items here: Lost items

Also you'll probably want to look into securing your computer and account to prevent this from happening in the future.

1. Securing your computer from viruses/keyloggers
2. Change Your Runescape Password
3. Change your email password
4.Make sure the RuneScape Authenticator is enabled.

Thank you for your reply. Can you please confirm to me how you don’t have legal responsibility in this case. Someone has obtained my Username, passwords and PIN through use of your software only.

You have legal obligations where the handling of monies is concerned. The fact you have stated you are not obliged unless legally required tells me you have the ability to see what’s lost.

As you are dealing with paying customers, you should have sufficient built in security, it is considered that this could be a potential breach of GDPR. I will make full attempts to contact the correct governing bodies for this, as well as PayPal. Please feel free to contact me via the email you have registered, which you will be able to see if you are employed by Jagex.

@SirNorfolk94.

Well did you have Auth set up for your account ?
If Yes , was that still active or disabled ?
If No , Why not ?

You said that you have a Bank pin , are that still active ?

Is your email secure with 2fa ?

If you want Jagex to investigate your Hijack , then please go to Hijacked account support page and follow ALL steps.

Look into their T&C # 7 that is what you agreed to when you made your account.

I can only consider it a flaw in your own systems as nothing of mine has ever been hacked, let alone email, password and a 4 digit pin.

Let me assure you I have accounts elsewhere that deal with virtual credit and transfer of money, and nothing has been hacked until I have entered your systems. I am sure that regardless of what your terms are PayPal will not be amused by the ease of loss.

I will confirm to you now, the pin is active, and is the same pin that i have logged into previously. I wasn’t aware that I would need an external verifier for the handling of in game trading, and to give protection, as your own systems should be capable of dealing with this. eBay/PayPal, amazon etc, I have never had any issue with under the same
Email address only.

I find the whole support process is as bad as trying to get through to HMRC in relation to Corporation Tax.

Can you confirm to me, given said person/people, has/have access to my password and username that my bank details are actually safe, given any saved details may now allow them to purchase and trade bonds and or runescape gold while I sleep.

I have replied to your Tip-off email, but all content here, remains part of the response, and will
Be screenshotted and used, including your responses.

I look forward to your response, if we manage to find a resolve to this within 48
Hours, I will cease to pursue, any governing bodies which could instigate investigation.

Regards.

Hmmm you dont answer my question.

If you had Auth set up and it was disabled , then would your problem be your email , since that is the front door key to our accounts.

If your bank pin still are active , can it only be breached in 2 ways :

1. You did give it away (Phishing) or somebody close to you know all your details
2. you allowed a Rat into your system , with this can they see everything you do on your device , even hijack your IP + Computer/devise.

So you need to figure out how it happen , because if this was Jagex fault , then would we all be in Risk and that is not the case.

If this happen in OSRS , did you of any chance use OSBuddy/Runelite client ?
What i have notice in all those years i have been playing and helping out in here , is that many of those people there get Hijacked has that in comment that they used those , if they didn't fall for one of those Phishing scams there is going on the social media.

I did not have Auth set up, but I don’t have it on my amazon account either, or PayPal, or PSN etc etc.

I have since, after finding out about it, set it up. Maybe a step forward, I don’t know, it claims to require it on every login, yet when I logout and log back in, it doesn’t ask me.

I haven’t been on any phishing sites, I played back in 2007, got educated on the matter back then, but the account got migrated.

I have never seen a company suffer so many hacking breaches on a cosistent basis, considering Jagex actually take cash from the general public. We can settle the matter privately, or I can take the action necessary to check Jagex are looking after the consumers.

Without saying if I have or haven’t used a client, it’s clear to me that it’s easy to use an open source client as a scape goat. When as a matter of fact it’s the own internal systems that are weak.

I am running a full deep scan, if it shows anything, I will of course apologise, move forward and rebuild and claim fault. If not, I will post the results for clarity.

I want clarification on this statement ''Unless required by law, we will not refund any amounts paid in relation to subscriptions, Micro-Game Credits, RuneScape Bonds or Virtual Currency when”

What situation(s) does it apply?

Regards.

@SirNorfolk94.

I think you need to read their T&C and Rules , so you know what you agreed to when you made your account and before wasting any money for court cases and such , where you prolly end up losing a lot more.

Jagex do recommend us to :

Have a secure email with 2fa.
Auth for our RS account(s).
Bank pin.

Just so you know if you used any of those clients then is it your own fault , because Jagex has always said the are used in your own Risk.
