Invention and how it can benefit Slayer

If you’re someone who has invention unlocked, do not overlook how good some of the slayer-specific perks are. While some Slayer perks can be very situational, using the right perks for the right tasks can make a huge difference.

Here is a list of Perks I would recommend using under any circumstances:

Weapon Perks: Precise/Equilibrium/Aftershock
Ideal Combination: Precise 4 with Equilibrium 2, Aftershock 3
Armour Perks: Enhanced Devoted, Crackling, Genocidal, Biting, Impatient
Ideal Combination: Biting 2 with Genocidal, Crackling 3 with X*, Impatient 3, Enhanced Devoted 3

*X Perk options: Mobile, Venomblood, Dragon Slayer, Demon Slayer, Undead Slayer

So Weapon perks are simple enough. You get Either P5 or P4E2 with Aftershock 3 and you’re good to go. Occasionally you might find Caroming 3 handy too, but this isn’t really as important.

Armour, however, can be a little more complicated when it comes to Slayer.
You need to think to yourself: What combat style am I going to be using when I’m fighting certain monsters. For example, I kill most dragons with Ranged (Rune, Celestial and the QBD mainly) so I want to slot the Dragon Slayer Perk into my Ranged armour somewhere.
On the other hand, I tend to kill Demons with Melee (K’ril, Kalgerions) so I’ll instead want to slot Demon Slayer into my Melee armour.

A cheap way of doing this is perk out Godwars 1 gear (Bandos/Armadyl) to use specifically for Slayer.
To give you an idea of what a full set of Slayer armour might look like, here’s a rundown of what I have.

And to help you get these perks, I've made a quick rundown of what components you need to use:

You could even go one step further and buy legs specifically for Slayer too with perks like Scavenging instead of Enhanced Devoted.

If spending millions on the absolute optimal perk setup isn't for you, here's the alternative:

The All-Purpose Slayer Preset

edit: Cinderbane gloves are a much better option for the hands/wrist slot!

The idea behind this setup is to cover as many assignments as possible using the same loadout. With Hyrbid-style armour, you can use whichever perks you like, and squeeze in as many Slayer related ones as you like without having to worry about what combat style you use for what monster.
The setbacks to using this are minor, but they should be taken into consideration. For example, you won't be able to make good use to other invention perks due to limited gizmo slots. Hybrid armour also has slightly weaker offensive and defensive stats than other armour of the same tier, so you'll take slightly more damage, while dealing slightly less. This shouldn't matter for most Slayer assignments but there are a few tasks where I would advise against using Hybrid armour.

Sandor's Super Helpful Pro Tips

So you're all set up now and looking to get slaying, but before you do, here are some tips I would like to offer to help you with your gains!

- Always use Overloads - It's completely worth it. If you're running low, make more

- Use Weapon poison when you can - While not all monsters can be damaged with poison, it can be a great help against those that can

- Your unlimited Slayer Master teleport - If you're 99, or even 120 slayer; you can use your Skillcape/Master Skillcape to teleport to any Slayer master, any number of times!

- Upgrade your Slayer helmet - A Slayer helmet is any aspiring Slayer's greatest tool, so it's a good idea to make sure you're using the best one you can! Imbue it with Ferocious rings to get bonus damage in Kuradel's dungeon, attatch a Hexcrest and Focus sight to make the most of it when using Ranged and Magic and eventually, fully upgrade it with a Corrupted gem!

- Use curses! - Level 95, or level 99 if you have them. It makes a big difference

- Manage your drops - The less time you spend running around picking things up, the faster you'll be able to finish your Slayer tasks. Try using Area Looting and bring along items like a Spring Cleaner and Gold Accumulator

- Use the Demonhorn Necklace + Bonecrusher Item combo for basically unlimited Prayer Points when fighting any monsters that drop bones

- Killing something that drops ashes instead? Switch out your Bonecrusher for an Attuned Ectoplasmator for the same effect!

- Fill up your Block and Prefer lists - I'll get more into this later on in the thread, but make sure both are completely full!

- Use Slayer VIP tickets - You can get these playing Rush of Blood or they can be bought with Thaler. It's a big point-saver if you're prone to skipping a lot of tasks

So the above is a big long list of tasks I do or don't do. That's more to it than that though. Some of the tasks I 'do' I get sick of and just skip when I don't really feel like doing them. Other tasks I usually wouldn't do, I sometimes might. It's not quite so black and white as it seems.

This however, is.

The absolute "YES GIVE ME 400 of THESE" and "NOOOOOOooooOoo!" tasks.

My Prefer and Block Lists

Prefer:

Rune Dragons
Abyssal Demons
Edimmu
Soul Devourers
Creatures of the Lost Grove
Dark Beasts
Ripper Demons

Block:

Nechryael
Grotworms
Black Demons
Greater Demons
Ascension Members
Shadow Creatures
Steel Dragons

You might wonder "Hey, Sandor - Why is this blocked but not this?" Well different tasks have a different chance of being assigned. This is referred to as their weight. The higher the weight of a certain task, the more likely any given slayer master is to assign said task to you.

For example: I never do Desert Strykewyrms - I absolutely hate them! But I don't have them blocked because they only have a weight of 7. Something like Greater Demons on the other hand has a weight of 11, making is slightly more likely to be assigned. You should always prioritise blocking a higher weighted task. The numbers next to the monsters in the list above is the weight value for each! You're welcome ;)

So let's get down to it! Here's a very quick summary of each assignment and how to do it efficiently:

Task List (A-B)

Abyssal Demons

Kill on the roof of the Slayer tower, past the agility shortcut. Make sure to grab a Slayer contract from Markus, who is located just outside of the tower. Wear Morytania legs 4 for 10% bonus Slayer exp if you have them. Use Melee or Magic and bring an aggression potion.

Archeron Mammoths

Kill on the Iceberg with melee. Watch a guide if you plan on doing these, they are quite hard-hitting, can be good money though.

Adamant Dragons

Not great xp, but a short task. If you choose to do them, use magic and kill them in the dungeon next to Kuradal’s dungeon (just a little further along) Use Magic.

Airut

Kill these in Kuradal’s dungeon. Use Melee.

Ascension Members

I skip these, but you can kill Rorarius for money in the first room of the Ascension dungeon if you want. Use Range.

Automatons

I skip these normally, but they’re not a terrible task to be honest. Use any combat style, and kill the ones weak to your style of choice. Be cautious of their ground-pound special attack.

Aviansie

If you’re good at Kree’aara, go mess him up! If not, skip this task.

Aquanites

Don’t bother unlocking these, they’re a pretty bad task. Can be ok-ish Farming xp if you bring a Seedicide, but you're not here for a Farming guide.

Black Demons

I skip these, but if you do want to kill them, use magic and maybe bring a cannon to speed things up a bit. Kill in Taverly Dungeon

Black Dragons

Kill QBD for money or adult Black Dragons in the Evil Chicken's Lair (accessible via Zanaris)

C-E

Camel Warriors

These handle just like Glacors so if you’re familiar with those, these should come pretty easily. If not, I’d suggest watching a guide, or just skipping the task. They’re not that great, to be honest. Use Ranged.

Celestial Dragons

Do these for sure! Try to keep the DPS high to avoid being frozen in time. Use Ranged.

Chaos Giants

I could take or leave these. Any combat style is fine. Pretty straight forward task, quite boring once you get over how cool they look.

Crystal Shapeshifters

Great task, nothing not to like about them minus the 'meh' loot. Use Ranged and kill them on the far east side of Tarddiad, across the bridge.

Dagannoth

I skip these, but if you fancy a pet hunt, or just making some money, go kill Dagannoth Kings! Otherwise they’re not really worth the time. If you’re not sure on how to fight the Dagannoth Kings, watch a guide.

Dark Beasts

Always do these. The best place to kill Dark Beasts is the Mourner Tunnels, bring a Cannon and kill them with Magic or Range. You can get here quickly using the Dark beast Slayer mask, or a crystal teleport seed.

Desert strykewyrms

I always skip these. To be honest, they don’t really have anything going for them. If you do choose to kill them, any combat style will work just fine. Brace yourself for a boring task though.

Elves

One of the best tasks for xp, always do these. Kill them in the Cadarn area of Priff, near the Altar. I use magic, but any combat style should work just fine. Bring some food, because they do dish out a bit of damage.

Edimmu

These count as undead, so bring a Salve Amulet(e) for an extra 20% damage and accuracy. Use Melee.

G-K

Gargoyles

I have these blocked - they’re not a great task. If you do choose to do them, use magic and kill them in the Slayer tower with a Contract and Morytania legs 4, or in Kuradal’s Dungeon.

Ganodermic Creatures

It’s not worth killing any Ganodermic Creatures apart from Ganodermic Beasts, which are actually quite a good task. Kill them with Magic in the Dungeoneering Recourse dungeon. (Teleport there via Dungeoneering skillcape)

Glacors

I like these, maybe it’s just me though. Kill in the Glacor Cave with Magic and watch a guide if you’re not entirely sure how Glacors work. If you don’t want to put the effort in to learning them, skipping them is just fine too.

Greater Demons

Skip these unless you want to kill K’ril in GodWars Dungeon. Greater Demons suck. I just block them.

Grotworms

Skip these, or if you really insist on killing them, kill mature ones near the entrance to the Queen Black Dragon’s lair. Any combat style works just fine.

Ice Strykewyrms

Do these (no reason not to do them since patch for easy investigate) Fire spells tear them apart extremely quickly.

Iron Dragons

Boring task, bad experience, skip. Or use Magic and kill in Kuradal’s if you need the Slayer points.

Kal'garion Demons

Can be annoying, try to maximise accuracy with a Nihil and an Aura. Use upgraded Darklight with an Off-hand Drygore. Otherwise, skip them. (I think they’re a good task though)

Kalphites

Killing corrupted Kalphites is a great option if you have the Slayer level to do so. If not, it's not a task worth doing. Use magic.

L-Z

Lava Strykewyrms

Skip these every time. If you have no points, go do some Woodcutting.

Living Wyvern

These can be quite difficult, but with some practice are a really good task. Kill with Magic (I go MD and pray melee)

Mithril Dragons

Quick & easy. Kill in Brimhaven recourse dungeon (requires elite daemonheim tasks)

Muspah

Always do these and make sure you use ancient magic - It does double damage!

Mutated Jadinkos

Probably skip, or best done in a sunken pyramid dungeon.

Nechryael

Skip these or kill in Slayer Tower. Get a Slayer Contract and bring Morytania Legs 4 if you have them.

Nihil

Not really worth unlocking these, can be good money but I personally wouldn’t bother.

Ripper Demons

I used to hate killing these, but they've been improved a lot since launch. If you do enough dps you'll very rarely have to worry about their one hit ko attack. Either kill these with magic and be weary not to aoe multiple demons at a time, or use melee (darklight optional) Drygores>Scythe.

Rune Dragons

These are great for money, I always do them. You’ll need Dragonbane bolts to kill them

Shadow Creatures

Boring task but very good slayer xp, kill Manifest Shadows with Magic.

Steel Dragons

Usually skip, but if you want to do these, kill them with Magic in Kuradal’s Dungeon.

TzHaar

Skip these, or just kill whatever you can find grouped up. Use magic. I’d highly reccommend skipping these though.

Tormented Demons

Can be amazing money, but if you don’t want to learn them don’t unlock them.

Vyrewatch

Skip or kill with Sunspear (any style)

Waterfiends

Skip or do these, kill with Range in Whirlpool dung
