My new short story, Ardhonmeth, is now up, and can be found at 49-50-324-54229742

Alright, this is the beginning of what I hope will be my greatest story to date. Some of you may remember me from *way* back, but I'm not very hopeful. But yeah, I'm me.

Pay the title little heed, for I can state in complete honesty, as did another great author, that this tale grew in the telling.

Prologue

They say that the moon is the eye of the gods, and that when it is full the gods know all that happens in the world and when it is new the gods are unable to see across the lands. Whether this is true or not no one knows, but everyone did say an extra prayer to Saradomin before sleep on nights when there was a new moon. And it was a night when the moon was new that the forces of Zamorack struck the small village of Helenis.

Goblins swarmed the town, breaking down doors and running their swords through the prone bodies lying in the beds. Most never even knew they died, their deaths were so rapid. A few awoke, but by the time they saw their attackers it was too late for them to do anything but die. The priests of Saradomin, alone in their marble temple, were the only ones to put up a fight, but though they killed a few goblins with the help of their god eventually they were overwhelmed by the sheer weight of them. Within 20 minutes a once lively city was completely silent, death the only citizen.

A Zamorackian mage standing on a hilltop a few hundred feet from the town raised his hands and from them sprang a fireball that struck the village hall and exploded, sending globules of flame flying through the air. By dawn all that was left of the village were some stray ashes drifting on the wind.

Nice. That was a good raid. Oh, and it's Zamorak, not Zamorack. Just giving you pointers on where you made spelling mistakes. Try to split your story into paragraphs. It might make the story easier to read. These are all just a few suggestions. Other than that, good job.

Thanks for the feedback

And I'm aware that Zamorak is spelled Zamorak now, however there was a time when it was spelled Zamorack, and so keeping with the "in ancient times when gods walked the earth" theme I'm using the old spelling

It makes sense. You're welcome for the feedbacks.

Edit: I got rid of the advertisement. It was wrong for me to do that. I learned. ^_^

Chapter 1

Gul'dan woke that morning to the calls of the newsboy, a child who every morning announced the different sales in the newly founded Varrock market. He was of average height, with short brown hair and soft green eyes. This morning, however, the newsboy's calls this morning did not announce the sales of the stall holders in the market. Gul'dan rolled over, but then heard the words of the newsboy "Zamorackian forces conquer another village, no survivors or prisoners are known to exist." Gul'dan leapt from his bed, threw on his tunic, grabbed his sword and ran out of his room. He noticed the newsboy; now walking away to inform another part of the city was now carrying a dagger at his waist, something he certainly hadn't done before.

Gul'dan ran down the road and grabbed the newsboy by the shoulder "Tell me all you know" he whispered urgently.

"I know what I said, however the high priest knows more. Go see him if you're that curious." Gul’dan thanked the boy and walked off towards the Temple of Saradomin.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not sure where he went," said the acolyte.

"You must have some idea where he is" Gul'dan said, unable to keep some annoyance from his voice.

"Very well" the acolyte relented, "He has gone to the castle, the King called a surprise council meeting this morning to discuss the recent raids of innocent village by Zamorack's forces." Gul'dan turned and ran, calling his thanks out behind him. Though he wasn't the best fighter in the kingdom he was generally respected for his great intelligence and ability to reason through almost any problem. He reached the gates and ran up the stairs three at a time. He threw open the doors to the council chamber and was surprised to see not only the King and his high council, but also his military advisor, three of the highest ranking generals in the kingdom and the High Priest of Saradomin. "Thought you might show up eventually" said the King, "We are now at war with Zamorack

Chapter 2

Gul'dan looked at them in shock. Though he knew that war was on the horizon, however he didn't think it would happen nearly so soon. "The forces of Zamorack have now destroyed five towns in as many nights, we cannot ignore that. We have to do something, and if we act now we may be able to catch their forces off guard. It's a risk, but we all knew it was coming to this," the King said. His voice was strong and not a hint of doubt clouded his face. He was definitely sold on the idea.

"Where are we headed?" Gul'dan asked. He knew that the king would not easily be dissuaded from his present course.

"We will head for the old Dwarven stronghold of Karna'khesh."

"But Zamorack controls the fortress of Gornakhan, which is directly across the river" Gul'dan pointed out "We are getting dangerously close to him if that is to be our attack base."

"Yes, I am aware that Zamorack controls what was once the sister city of Karna'khesh, however there is also a Guthixian temple there, located on an island that forms the only bridge across the river for leagues. They will alert us of any movement on Zamorack's side." The King had obviously given this matter a fair deal of thought.

"Very well" Gul'dan said, "When do we leave?"

Chapter 3

"Karna'khesh?" hissed the cloaked figure.

"Yes, they leave tomorrow," he said, "They hope to catch your forces off guard."

The cloaked figure was silent for a moment, then hissed "Lord Zamorack is pleased with you. Continue, and if any thing new comes up, alert me immediately."

***

The fortress of Karna'khesh loomed on the horizon, its towers and spires jutting out of the surrounding landscape like jagged fingers. Gul'dan walked at the head of the army deep in conference with the King. "We must strike quickly, before Zamorack's forces can all reach the fortress of Gornakhan. If all his forces are there then our army will be annilihated," the King pointed out.

"I still feel our forces are too small, we must wait for the convoy from the elves before-" Gul'dan's comment was cut short by a sudden snarling coming from the top of a nearby ridge. They looked up at the ridge, at standing there were well over a dozen hellhounds.

"What the-" the king started, "Men, to arms!" The hellhounds bounded down the slope and fell on the right flank of the army. The men, caught completely unaware, were torn apart by the ferocity of the attack. Gul'dan drew his sword and bounded off towards the hellhounds, knowing that if they didn't attack now they were toast. The King grabbed his mighty hammer, Hornfel, and charged behind Gul'dan. The men, inspired by their king's courage, formed up and advanced on the hellhounds.

Gul'dan reached the hellhounds but before he could attack his body was suddenly frozen. Try as he might, he couldn't move, and looking up the ridge he saw the reason. Three Zamorackian magi stood on the ridge, wreaking havoc with their spells. The King was held by the same mysterious force that held Gul'dan, and was bellowing for his magi. One of the hell hounds turned on Gul'dan and pounced. Still held by the foul magic, Gul'dan could do nothing but wait for what would surely be his death.
