Introduction

The city of Grinfield, capital city of Yalia, the northernmost Petty Kingdom, was just waking up. The Petty Kingdoms have always been troubled, and Yalia was no exception.

They always received the worst of the Orcish raids from the north, and being the largest city they were also a center of trade and commerce, which in turn brought plenty of bandits who were eager to prey on merchants and travelers. Although Grinfield itself was significantly more stable and secure, life in a city brought its own problems - cutpurses, muggers, con-men, and other shady characters prowled around.

Of course, these troubles also brought opportunities - for those were capable of dealing with them. Caravans always needed protection, and bandits or orcs always needed hunting; anyone with a decent blade and half a brain could sign on to one of those tasks, and be paid a decent wage if they came out alive. The Adventurer and Mercenary Guilds had a strong presence here as a result, and there were several active mercenary companies which frequented the area.

One such group was the Stronghammer Company, a band of three dozen men and women, led by Dario Vanick - a tall, Half-Orc brute of a man in his mid-thirties, who wielded a large two-handed dwarven warhammer for which his company was named. His father an Orc raider and his mother a human shopkeep, he was known for his hatred of the Orcish race, and was said to have personally killed over a hundred Orcs. He had founded the Company, and had been with it for ten years - some had been with them from the start, others were freshfaced and new, while most were somewhere in the middle.

The company had spent the previous night celebrating The Sleeping Goblin Inn, after the good captain had opted to give them the day-off. Some had been drinking or finding other diversions, while other more responsible individuals had simply sought some extra sleep.

The tavern had been all too happy to serve them.

But today, it was back to business. The captain had sought them all out and woken them from wherever they slept, be it in the stables, the bar, a shared room, or their own private rooms if they had been feeling particularly spendy, and ordered them all to meet him outside.

The Stronghammer Company had a job to do.

Summary

Hello, and welcome to The Stronghammer Company! This roleplay follows the adventure of a band of mercenaries, on what will perhaps become the most significant job in the Company's history. It takes place in the world of Echion, and I would urge you to head over to the Echion Lore Thread, as it contains all the information you need to know on the world's backstory.

Stronghammer Chain of Command and Pay Distribution

So, I'm bored, let me tell y'all about the Stronghammer company's chain of command, and how pay is distributed.

Captain
Role: Makes all the big decisions, leads the company in battle, decides who to recruit.
Pay: 2 shares.
Current Captain: Dario Vanick

Lieutenant
Role: Commands when the captain is incapable or unavailable, and leads the second half of the company should it ever need to be split in two. Officer.
Pay: 1.5 shares.
Current Lieutenant: Joric Ironfist

Quartermaster
Role: Arranges the purchasing of supplies, and distributes the pay. Records every transaction, and takes inventory of the supplies they currently have available. Still expected to fight in battle. Officer.
Pay: 1.5 shares.
Current Quartermaster: Martin Gilbert

Disciplinary Officer
Role: Punishes men who step out of line - can be anything from a stern lecture to a full-on whipping, but he needs the Captain's approval. Officer.
Pay: 1.5 shares.
Current Disciplinary Officer: Ethan Vendal

Mage
Role: Anyone with formidable magical talent.
Pay: 1.25 shares.

Veteran
Role: Anyone who has been with the company for two years or more.
Pay: 1.2 shares

Recruit
Role: The standard run of the mill, non-magical mercenary.
Pay: 1 share

It should be worth noting that Mages and Veterans, while higher ranking than Recruits, do not actually have the authority to boss them around (although many will try to do this to gullible newcomers.)

Also, the pay distribution is not the same for all Mercenary companies. Stronghammer's Captain and Officer shares are on the low end, which is considered to be rather generous on their part.

Also, none of the payments stack with other ranks. For example, if the Quartermaster also happened to be a Mage (he isn't), he would only receive 1.5.
