In hooks and chains, you said we could create different areas, right? it's just I think i'd like to join, but i'm not a fan of the whole 'flesh-world' thing (that kinda thing just puts me off), so i was going to try and go with something like a floating island or a sky turtle or something.
Or maybe just a really tall tower holding up a continent with a generic medieval fantasy style to it. that way it can still be part of the same world. more or less.
"a rather posh-looking gentleman who wore a sword by his side"
Sounds...familiar (is it who I think it is...?)
BTW, I'm a little cautious about responding to your post. I was trying to keep the more recent part of Conleth's backstory vague, since it's actually from when I used him in the hagspawn RP Er Ril held, where they were investigating a hag coven in a forest in Kal'sea, so it's not the same one that we're heading towards in ITF. I thought this might contradict information you want to have in this RP, like whether or not there is more than one coven, so i kept it vague so there's the possibility of them not being hags, just in case.
Just wanted to check with you to make sure you're OK with me making it more specific.
RainbowRid3rsaid: So let me tell you what I've been thinking of. I've been thinking of a Wild West themed RP. I'm still coming up with everything, but this came into mind while I was sleeping. So yeah.
Not very familiar with that genre or the general rules/tropes, but that sounds interesting!
Anyway, alcohol was served to kids. It was generally a safer alternative than drinking water, as most sewerage lead into the very rivers and lakes that they got their water from, and therefore carried a lot of diseases. Beer was a cheaper and safer option, and they made a more diluted version specifically for children.
So it's accurate for the time period I'm going for, I'm just having fun with the concept.
And thanks, Duncan. One-off characters generally allow for the best dialogue possibilities
There's a woman with blue hair and a sentient flute. I don't think we need to worry too much about historical accuracy.
EDIT- Looking back I just realized I made Conleth throw up twice when it should have been once. oops.

swordákingsaid: SiráDuncan88said: EráRilsaid: in the tradition of the Warrior Tribes of the White Fang Mountains The White Fang is HERE? RWBY reference? I approve.
It's almost...sad. Wait, it's very sad, I clearly have no life.
AziáAzisaid: Names with meaning, that's a nice thing to know Emo. I have played Assassin's Creed 1 long ago but not for very long, just maybe ten minutes or so, I couldn't pass the tutorial, it was too hard.
Eh, np Chasers, let's just not worry about anything, and, uh, RP? So ya, for simplicity, let's just keep going and not worry about anything, 'cause that's, like, the best thing to do, I guess.
Names with meaning are fun. But the best ones are puns.

Hey guys, I haven't run a RP in a while. It looks like there are a few going on at the moment, but they're all pretty serious. i I made a less serious, more fun/whacky/comedic RP that you can easily take part in, even if it's just while you wait for activity on other RPs, would people find that helpful/be interested?
EDIT: What did happen to zombie threads anyway? Left Behind must have died about 4-5 years ago, and since then nothing ever took its place because 'zombies were overdone'. Maybe it's time for a comeback!
I don't generally like zombie survival, but I might join the rising threat if i can, since it's a medieval fantasy setting and no-one else has joined yet...
Does healing do damage to undead like in the bravely games? that would make healers so OP
EDIT-So i realise my thread is a bit unoriginal right now, what with all the fantasy threads flying around, and also a bit more complex than i had intended. i have a bit of a habit of doing that, it seems.
There was an idea I had ages ago where something dumb like a magical explosion happens near a city, and suddenly everyone wakes up with superpowers, physics defying fighting skills, magical weapons or whatever and, well, chaos ensues. like a rip-off really hectic, simplified version of George Rozas' threads.
I could set this up in a matter of a few posts, maybe even just one and it would take about 30 minutes to write it up. Anyone interested? or is the problem to do with the amount of thread/busy schedules, rather than the thread's content?

Chasers115said: Alright, gauging interest before I make any commitment to actually trying to write a plot that makes some sense:
An RP set in a magnificent kingdom/city where technology and magic have been expertly fused. The city itself is surrounded by a large wall to protect it from the outside world, which has been taken over by 'shadows'; creatures of death, which feast upon the lost souls of those slain. The wall isn't the only defense however, as the city is guarded at all times by a floating navy, comprised of blimp-esque airships, with less combustion risk.
On the ground, a militant police force keeps the public safe from the generic dangers of crime, but there's a specialized force for the more specialized danger, which the PCs are a part of.
The RP is mission based, with different teams going on different missions, or different teams managing different aspects of the same mission (infiltration team and combat team, for example).
However, shadows aren't the only threats in this world, as there are those who would fight to see the spread of chaos, and return to a world where sorcery and technology did not meld to form such an unholy combination...
Can we have colour-coded characters and be in four-person teams with acronym names?
Seriously though, maybe we could have a name theming rule, like everyone's name links to an animal, or an element, or something. or have teams with themes, or something. That would be cool.
Inferisaid: You do get a hint at it really early on (I think the first few episodes) but it's not really that obvious.
Penny: I want to stay at Beacon!
Ruby: Penny, they'll never let you do that...
Penny: I know...But I have a plan!

Thank you for the help, chasers. Do we still describe things like weapons etc. or do we decide that after the prologue?
Also, if I did a non-bio, would I forget about the weapons and nexii momentarily and wait until after the prologue?
Slightly unsure of the weapons choice. for this particular character I actually wondered about having boots with guns, since their main asset is their agility and mobility. but that would be a little similar to Merc.
Is it possible to have some kind of pictomancy in Gleam? Otherwise I'll just take a real weapon that I like and add a nexus.
Chasers115said: Also, Duncan if you're around, just go the opposite of Mercury White: Hermes Black! Howzabout that one? See also:
Hermes Dark Hermes Night Hermes Shadow Hermes Raven
His name is Mercury Black. Hermes White IS the opposite of that.
Or I could go with the Viking equivalent. Ratatoskr! No that sounds stupid.
I think I'll go with the double reference. Marcus White (Marcus is a reference to Mercury's father, and also sounds similar, while white is the opposite of black) Or maybe a different metal/element. BRB
"Please...just call me 'Magnus' or something."
Yeah one of those two.

(in dep. 37) Hey Inferi and West, is the store you guys went into the same store my character works at or should I make a post where he leaves and finds you?
Westenevsaid: Inferisaid: You know the best way to deal with powerful people is to kill them, right? If you leave them alive there's too great of a chance that they'll be able to do something in the future, so if you're in combat with someone that's a demi-god (like Annie) any competent person will just fight her to her death.
You could always try pulling off what they do in Fairy Tail? They're all about averting this trope (unless, of course, someone does something so bad even the author wants them dead).
Ah, the Fairy Tail villain who inevitably turns good, happens at least once every arc, it would seem.

Anyway, it's just a starting point, and I've deliberately left it vague. We don't even know if it's a dragon, all I've said is it has colossal scales and is sleeping. And it's in something similar to a cave.
Er...any ideas on how to get Marcus to actually do something without seeming out of character? He's not the kind of person who would run into the line of fire to help someone, unless they visibly appear to need help, which Scarlet doesn't.
Unless he could use the gun Scarlet didn't take and attach it to Bit to make a sort of robotic turret. Then if he fixed the camera they could somehow control it remotely from the safety of the shop...maybe? Would that be pushing it too much?
EDIT-also will attach the knives to shoes to take enemies by surprise
EDIT-whoa whoa Inferi what's going on in into the fire? i thought Siera was in Hamstead.
- Last edited on 08-Apr-2016 18:03:53 by SiráDuncan88
Inferisaid: DáFáAngelsaid: Below, Azul was wailing. It seemed something was going wrong- something was polluting his body, something totally alien to Azul. Whilst Rovaan resisted Azul's absorption, Siera was fully open to it- but more of her was leaking into the elder demon than the elder demon had bargained for. It was incorruptible, it was pure, it was of a source so foreign to Azul as to bruise and blister at the insides of his mind. This pain he channelled into rage, and with this rage he stood prepared to tackle Rovaan, or the beast which had replaced Rovaan, and at the same time Azul stopped his plans of absorbing the demonic energies of the others- exposing him more to Kuro's own drainage.
Inferisaid: Probably not, and since I doubt realism (in this case the amount of time needed to install the legs onto his body) is going to be followed as much as a world such as earth would dictate you could probably go for it if you really wanted.
That's just my opinion, though, and I'm not the guy in charge.
No, I meant too similar to the RWBY character Marcus is based on. It would be borderline fanfiction.
Would it be too over-the-top for Marcus to make a cybernetic limb himself to replace Gary's arm, before the department even call back? It's about time I made him actually do something to actually give them a reason to want to hire him. I mean, hitting an untrained, distracted fighter with a book isn't exactly elite fighting, and he has no record of actual training.
Otherwise, I'll happily leave him outside the department, it might actually add a bit more variety to the cast.
^I think Marcus not joining not only makes more sense, it could make the story more interesting as we would then have at least one player's character outside of the department. My plan for him is probably for him to start taking self-defense classes (these would be skipped over to save time) and maybe start investigating on his own, inevitably leading to him either bumping in to, or being in the same place as, the other characters. It suits his character more anyway. Thanks
EDIT- Also, I've noticed that I seem to be keeping everyone back by not posting frequently enough, and I'm away a fair bit in the summer, so this would be less disruptive because you won't be constantly waiting for my character to respond.

He's a little socially awkward and would feel uncomfortable trying to change the group's direction, and would rather go with what everyone else decides, thinking that he's more likely to earn their trust if he just does what they say.
A new thread just showed up called university of wintergreene, i just wanted to point out that it's a role-play not a story. There might be some others that don't have [RP] in the title, i'll let you guys know if I see any.
Well, there's Daralt City of sellswords, but people seem to have figured that one out
Cookie Crusades. People really need to start including [RP] in the titles...

Hey guys, recently got back from being away for about a week and a half, and now due to difficulties regarding computers i cannot use them to make posts. I am currently using my 3DS.
i may be able to rp with this, but my posts will probably be shorter than usual.
if i can't post you can control my characters if needed. With Marcus it shouldn't matter as it wont disrupt the rp, but with Conleth you can either give him orders (which he will most likely follow) or have him attempt to help Ethel and Joric from either the trees or undergrowth ysing birds/throwing knives. i...think he has 6 knives
Ah, I forgot the 'you can post' post. Also, there are no specific rules except the ones I mentioned, it's a more experimental/casual thread. What I wrote probably implies that we'll make some sort of fantasy world but that's not necessary, it could be a science fiction that starts off with a desolate planet being inhabited by travellers etc., we are basically writing the backstory for a setting.
Also who needs magic when you have bending.

BTW I was thinking about making a thread relating to the let's build one I made recently. It could have a collection of short stories relating to the world it's set in, which I'm thinking of calling Heredia or something like that.
This would be another way to post info about the world and develop it. The posts we've made on the RP thread, I honestly think are more like short stories, so we could put them on the short stories thread instead.
Anyone who wants to add their own story should be able to, obviously, as long as it logically fits into the setting; I'll include an intro with info about the world first.
The idea is that it's a kind of community owned world, if you want to write a story about it, you can, and if you want to make your own RP, you can. If you're unsure about your RP fitting in, the world can be expanded.
I had thought about asking players to post stories here first, but that's not really what the threads for, and following recent events, I'd rather play it safe.
Sir Duncan: That's actually a really interesting idea - a land in which many short stories can happen, some can involve others, while others can involve nobody. I seem to recall seeing a TV show like that; every character had their own adventure, but they were also in the background of another character's adventure. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name right now.
Hmm...I'm afraid I'm not sure either, but that sounds very discworld-esque to me, except they're full length novels.
Hey Guys, just need to let you know I'll be away for a while and might not be able to post properly until the 25th. Then after that, around the 10th of September I'll be without a computer i can use for posting for a while again. Sorry if this causes any trouble.
Hey guys, just to let you know I'm moving and will be restricted to my 3DS for a few weeks before I get a laptop of my own. Roleplaying might be more difficult for me and take longer, but I will try to stay active during this time if I can.
Hey guys! Sorry for not being active past 2 weeks. Just started uni and I don't yet have a laptop. I might be able to use the library computers, since its apparently OK to use them for watching videos/social media etc.
If my character(s) have to act and I can't post i'm happy for them to be npcs or whatever for a while. It would be nice if you don't kill them all off
I don't have finals because I'm not a real student. #artcourses (JK I have more coursework and shorter holidays instead, just to clarify)
EDIT-also only first year
So, guys, I was thinking of holding a RP, using the ideas I got from you on my let's build a RP thread, since I loved what you all came up with and it seems a real shame to let it go to waste.
The thing is, I'm not sure exactly if this is a great idea as I don't know how active the forums are right now and it seems there are already a few threads going on.
So, i came up with an idea for how to make this thread a little different and hopefully encourage activity on it. It's a risk/reward model based on how frequently you post. I'll explain more if you guys are interested.
I was thinking I could make a very short RP to test out the system to see if you like it and if it works, and what might need fixing. What do you ppllzzz think?
EDIT-that's an interesting idea Wolfpack, I'll try and keep up with any discussion on it

Westenevsaid: I'm not quite sure we have the staffing for a fast-paced roleplay, but how exactly would it work?
Have you ever played Bravely Default? I kind of got the idea from there.
Basically during a dangerous situation like a fight, players spend points to perform actions. when the situation begins every player has a point, and then every, say, Thursday and Saturday (because posting is probably easier around weekends) you get a pint. The more points you have, the more actions you can take in one go but the more vulnerable you become, the idea is that it encourages players to post if they haven't for a while. If you leave the thread for too long your character can get killed.
West, if you happen to see this, I was wondering if I could ask about your RP? the tales of a diamond in the rough one. I was thinking of joining it to get back into RPing. I had an idea for an earth manipulating character. Would that be OK even if Annie's character has earth? Since she picked fire and nature as well
OK, I'm definitely going to try and join Echion. I was wondering....would it be possible to have a character who uses craft magic to craft special potions that are applied into their weapon like a poison? Kind of like a temporary enchantment, so for example, a solution that super heats your blade when you swing, giving a burn effect? I would guess this could also include poisons and similar stuff that inflict paralysis, tiredness, etc.
So I just realized I basically just described dust from RWBY, except it's crafted instead of mined
- Last edited on 24-May-2017 18:49:54 by SiráDuncan88
I was thinking they would be a regular swordfighter most of the time, and they would pool their potion-making resources into the more expensive magical effect granting ones, so when a particularly difficult skirmish comes up, they can apply a fire effect or whatever to their sword that lasts around 30 seconds or something. They would only have a few of these for the duration of the RP, unless they somehow come across the ingredients to make more, and that would probably take several hours' worth of preparation as well, not to mention it depends on how good a mood the thread-master is in
If that were the case, what number seems about right? I was thinking around 3?
Guys, I don't think it's a good idea to respond when people post stuff like that, they may just be trying to spark controversy and begin arguments. Either way, Azi is breaking forum rules by making posts like that (and he knows it), so it's best not to get involved. It's probably best to just ignore what he said.
(although it doesn't look like anyone was trying to aggravate anyone else, it's still against the rules)
- Last edited on 25-May-2017 20:53:35 by SiráDuncan88
Notfishing, thank you for taking the time to respond, sorry to have caused any trouble as I am having second thoughts in using that idea, I am not sure if it suits the personality of the character I have in mind. Thanks though. I should have a bio ready fairly soon. Is it OK for me to use an image for their appearance?
Also, I was planning my my character's backstory involving them almost becoming either a townsguard or a part of some lord's private army or something. Would that be OK?

A couple of weeks ago I looked on the forum and saw some new posts on into the fire but it looks like it isn't currently active, although I'll try to keep an eye on it just in case and maybe make a post if I can think of something to write, and see if there's any more interest in it.
If not, I might still lurk around here. Are there any RPs going on at the moment?
EDIT-what's this about a fighter rp? sounds interesting
- Last edited on 17-Mar-2018 00:38:48 by SiráDuncan88
I think I'm going to try and join Azi's and West's roleplays I already have my idea for Azi's, it's a very vain, arrogant mage with a focus on fire, wind and healing abilities. Well, I plan to give him healing related perks anyway.
EDIT - just saw Wolf's thread, also considering that
- Last edited on 18-Mar-2018 15:43:41 by SiráDuncan88
Thanks for the advice! I thought it might be cool for his spells to be effective against armoured opponents like in Runescape, but that would need some kind of weakness to counter it. I could just get rid of the armour match-up entirely and leave it at being good against ice and nature and bad against water and earth
I made a post for Atlantis Colosseum, I'm probably going to see what West and Azi both want to do before I make my character do anything major because I don't know exactly what direction you want the scene to go in (what kind of enemies etc.)
