Out with the old in with the new. Is anybody else here glad that there is no version of Runescape without a Grand Exchange anymore? I use to dislike the Grand Exchange a lot but my views about it have changed recently because I realized how nice and convenient it is. What about you guys?

The version of RS that I play has had a GE for a very long time.

If OSRS did not have a GE, but now do, then it is not my place to comment.

Other than catching a bank sale either in Varrock or Seers Village. Quite honestly I loved the grand exchange from it's inception. So easy to drop my wares in the sales slots and get back to what I was doing rather than standing around waiting for that one person who might seriously be interested in what I'm peddling. ~Tranq~ C7-456-18

Honestly? I'm 50/50 on that. I miss the old community because of how openly social it was, the atmosphere of the game back then was a lot friendlier and laid back comapred to what it's like now.

Why I'm on the fence with being with the G/E vs being without it is because when we didn't have the G/E (during the RS2 era, before it was added) you had to verbally barter with others when trading. There were no set prices, someone could be selling something for 500k and then a few squares away you'd see someone selling the same thing for 250k etc.

There's no denying the G/E has its benefit but because it's.. essentially the Google of Runescape in regards to items, all you have to do is search for what you want, put a price down and then wait. But that's where I start having a love/hate relationship with how it works; back when the G/E didn't exist you had to actively find someone who was selling what you were looking for, which wasn't always guaranteed (but everyone knew everyone, to some extent) so you could ask around until someone would connect you to someone who did.

In a way I do think the G/E was a step in the right direction but I think it eventually led the game in the direction it's ended up in where now everything has to be AFK and instant access etc. The social aspect of the game without a G/E where you had to actively find someone and then talk through the exchange was also a unique experience that added to the game as well. Of course, it was frustrating at times but nonetheless.. I do think it somehow brought the community closer together back then.

I very much disliked hanging around for extended periods of time typing, over and over, "Buying X" or "Selling X". I would much rather have been off skilling and whatnot.

Also, there was so many of those scummy people who knew all the items that would look like something entirely different if they 'noted' the item, so people were forever being ripped off because they never had the sense or patience to check their trades properly. If nothing else, the GE got rid of that practice.

I always like the ge.

I hate trade restrictions that were introduced at the same sort of time, more so that there was loot sharing + trade restrictions... I mean, do one or the other!

The main thing I miss about trading was unidentified herbs... I uses to pack my bag with the unidentified herbs I want... Buy unidentified herbs but I'd only get the ones I wanted. That was fun. But that was long b4 the ge.

In most cases, the GE serves as a price guide for items. So a random guy can't sell you a bronze sword for 5m gp, lol. However, the GE doesn't always project correct live prices. No one will ever sell you a Party Hat for 2.1B.

Uhhh.. That's untrue.. People still sell phats in ge from time to time.

Blue yellow red and purp phats have been sold in the ge in the last 6 months.

To check, on rs main page, community, ge, valuable trades, set range to 6 months... And see... Phats sold in the ge.

I have a feeling those sales are Jagex, ages ago they said that they would sell discontinued items from permanently banned accounts on the GE. It's the only thing that would make logical sense as the street price of those is many billions more.
