So I just had an interaction with a certain account(not mentioned) that pretty well made me want to quit runescape. It wasn't just that this player decided to crash me with a cannon at the waterfall fire giants, that was fine. It was the incessant flaming that wasn't. Player would imply that I was dumb for continuing to even try killing fire giants and was generally abusive, but not necessarily offensive, with language. They really were going out on a limb to get me to snap and start swearing at them or something of the sort, and you know the scumbag was going to report me for it as well if it happened.

In the end I reported for disruptive behavior but I actually think that when you attempt to egg the other player into abusing you back in the chat window you now are encouraging others to break the rules as well. I get that there are other unclear situations and misunderstandings that make players that are otherwise rational freak out, but this was clear, and I think there ought to be another rule with strict punishment on those who are clearly troublemakers in the community.

It really did make me angry and although I calmed down within the situation, I hope the team takes these offenses seriously, as having already been on the fence of whether to renew membership, I have now decided against it.

The best thing to do in such a situation is put the other player on ignore, and if you can, then just ignore them and keep playing. Once they see you won't leave, they usually do.

You could also hop worlds but you don't have to.

If they are using seriously offensive language they can be reported, and you can also report for disruptive behavior if they are trying to interfere with you playing, though using a cannon isn't going to be against the rules, the things they said might be.

People who are abusive will always exist and try to drive someone else out for their own personal gain, I just stay, play on, and if they want to stay they can too. Try not to let it bother you, although sometimes it will.

If you can, move away from them either in the same world or to another one, if they keep following you then it becomes harassment and they might have action taken against their account.

I find the most effective attitude is to welcome them and share the space with them, since they are playing the game too. If they are trying to tag all the monsters to drive you out, as some do, I mean what are you gonna do? You can't stop them, and they can play the game too so just live with it or move.
Hi.

Thanks for the support -- it was jarring to deal with this player and if I intended to play more in the first play it would be because of the response to this post.

Btw I didn't crash I was there for a good 40 mins before the player showed up, and almost done with my slayer task. In the conversation, the player admitted that they enjoyed messing with other players in this fashion, and continually asked me what my "idiot thoughts" on the situation were. When I gave up, I admitted that the player had a point and I couln't get any fire giants. Fair right? That's the point, as a troll, when you have taken all you can take. Not good enough for player actually, the flaming continued until reporting automatically put the player on my ignore list.

I was just suggesting that the punishment be harsher for explicitly provoking other players to break the rules on offensive language (and also that acting this way isn't considered encouraging rule breaking). I reported the player, but don't think that report will really go anywhere, and although it isn't my position to say what this player's punishment should be(and it isn't in my ability to follow up my report to see how this player was punished), I still hope that player was muted for that offense alone.

Thanks again

For future reference, cannon damage does not count as tagging the enemy. As long as you hit before the crasher does, you still get killcount, XP, etc.

The exception here is if you're an Hardcore Ironman or Ironman account. Then you need to both tag it before they do, and deal more damage then them. In this situation the cannon still does not count as tagging, but I believe the damage dealt by the cannon counts as theirs.
