For years, I've enjoyed the forums by reading/providing occasional feedback on the latest home page news posts and updates. Recently, I've noticed a trend of there not being a discussion "button" leading to a relevant thread to express people's thoughts.

Why is this? What is happening? I know (sadly) other social platforms are now taking precedence over our own game's forums, but this is pretty disappointing. :|

I don't remember where they first said it, but allegedly the reason for why they stopped caring about the update discussion threads was that the news post on the home page has to be transcribed to a different format here on the forum end when made into a thread. At this point in time, they still posted the threads, but they only contained the link to the news post on the home page, along with a message like "how do you feel about this update? share your thoughts below". After that, they just stopped posting the threads entirely.

They started doing this probably when they added the Patch Notes subforum.

There is already the Recent Game Update forum, always. Obviously it is the place for discussions of all the current update. It may actually be better for forum users to pick whatever topics they want to participate in instead of replying to just one single stickied thread.

There is also actually a link to the Weekly Update thread in the Patch Notes forums. I think this one is where the general discussion of this week's update goes now.

I'm disappointed with this too. Instead of a handy button to go straight to discussion, I have to search the forums up and down to find it.

Just one more example of them abandoning their own forums.

He's not talking about the lack of recent update thread content, he's talking about how on the news post itself there isn't a link to the relevant thread. Specifically, the comp cape rework newspost has a list of places to discuss it - but doesn't link to the thread on the issue that's in future updates.

Exactly...

If there's "all of a sudden" (keep in mind, it's been this way for over 15 years) a formatting issue tying the main posts directly here to the forums, and heaven forbid we try a simple copy/paste routine--fine. I'm okay if they "at least" write a small message (as was done a few times, and then...?) linking to the information. But to take away that as our opportunity to provide insight really does have an impact on players who desire to share their responses on the news.

We now have to manually create a thread to discuss a certain topic every time? Do they not care to read what we have to say anymore? Is our feedback purely going to be determined by polls? What the heck... I'm really hoping someone can explain this to me. It literally doesn't make sense at all.

Well call me paranoid, but this is a fairly recent development. And while I personally like Blackwing's commentary on RU, I did wonder if they removed the Discuss button so they didn't have to see his feedback.

Stupid really, if so. Blackwing will find a way. I don't agree with every point he makes, but I like to see what he has to say.

I hope it's just an oversight and Jagex will return the Discuss button, but I'm not holding my breath.
