With the removal of portable forages - crafting jewelry got a nerf and did not get re-added.
could the ability to smith gold bars/gems into jewelry be added to portable crafter somehow?

Does this help?

"Portable forges have been replaced with luminite injectors, which can be used at the artisan's workshop to give a group buff. Your existing portable forges have been turned back into portable packs, so you can choose to gain the new luminite injectors if you want them, or instead choose a different portable."
Bite me.

Not really. The problem is that we used to be able to craft jewelry from the bank, now we cant do that any more and have to run between a bank and a smelter. As far as I know, luminite injectors have nothing to do with crafting.

The Artisan's Workshop has a bank a few steps from all the furnaces, and the tradeoff here is being able to make 28 pieces of jewelry in an inventory.

No it does not, I am fully aware of this but does not fix the crafting part of the forges

It is a little more than a few steps compared to portable effect and not having to move at all
