theres currently no use for barbarian smithing as the only items you make on them are no longer worth the time investment to make them.

pre update you could make 20 spears in under 50 seconds or so.
now thats about the time for 1 spear with prices of ores/bars that have all crashed with no increase in spear value for scarcity.

whats the point of having a forge and using the new smithing mechanics when the sole point of the barbarian forge is to make spears with logs and bars and its just as slow as everything else. the heat and progress mechanics really dont add anything to it.

I'm glad you've made this thread - this issue of spears and hastas is worse than that.

On Ironmen, the only way I've found to get them for the needed quests are to swap tokens at the artisans workshop.
You need Tai-Bwo-Wannai Trio quest completed to buy them in the store AND to smith them, yet need one to complete that quest. You are advised on most quest guides that require them, to obtain them from NPC's, but, this is not possible as salvage has replaced those drops.

So in effect, yeah, spears need to be looked into asap. I don't even know if it's possible to use that token exchange if you didn't get tokens prior to that update (not sure though?) Either way, I certainly wouldn't expect that to be how I'd get spears.

.

You can buy a rune spear from the shop on the second floor in the Champions' Guild.

LMAO, you think just requiring Tai Bwo Wannai Trio is bad?

Try ending up burning the only Karambwan they give your hardcore ironman, resulting in raising the minimum Fishing requirement from a measly 5 to a whopping 65.

But I don't think hastae or spears need a change.

A few quests haven't been accounted for. It's boggling that Jagex let them slip through the beta, as questing is a major part of RuneScape and should have been the first place to thoroughly test.

Spears are used in scarecrows in the Tai Bwo Wannai quest. The rework hasn't really accounted for that.

Maybe some wooden spear could be craftable instead to fulfill these things without tying them unnecessarily to barbarian smithing.

Alternatively, you can complete Tai Bwo Wannai and buy spears(kp) + cleaning cloth from the spear store. How many do you need for scarecrows?

And to complete the quest buy one from the Champions' Guild.

Ah brilliant, thanks for bringing this up!
Only noticed it during the quest "As a First Resort" where the chef needs 4 spears and the guides said to simply kill ogress' to the west - only to be greeted with tiny iron salvage :O

Good to know but I'd hope Jagex could tidy that up or introduce new dialogue or part-quest completed permissions for spears during that quest.

Get rid of the barbarian smithing mechanic and just let them be smithed/forged like everything else.

Spears you can smith don't even go past Tier 50, so there is 0 point in making them so "special".
