I don't understand why support for the Companion App is being removed. I use it often to throw items into the Grand Exchange when I am out and about.
Runescape mobile is still in beta. Even though I have the mobile version it is very much unplayable on my phone. I can't even get past the loading screen without it crashing 90% of the time. This is not the time to be removing support for the Companion App.
I am not an expert in software development so maybe I am completely wrong here, but it seems to me that the Companion App has not received any updates in the whole time I've used it.
It seems rather trite to say that, "Maintaining the companion app requires time from our developers which we feel is better spent resolving other issues and developing new features on the road to release for RuneScape Mobile."
If sooo much time is spent on the RS Companion App, how come nothing has ever gotten better?
If I'm wrong and people can point out updates that did happen, then great, but otherwise it seems to me like just an excuse and not a real reason.
If they programmed the app so poorly that every time a GE price changes they have to go and manually update it for the RS Companion, then our devs are extremely incompetent. As far as I can tell the App should not need practically any maintenance. Maybe security updates, but those are generally done by the developers of Android and Java to my knowledge.
Anyway I will miss the Companion App as well. It has been a far better option than browsing the forum or wiki on my phone. I definitely don't have a powerful enough phone to run RS Mobile, either.
The companion app has never been updated in a way where it supports multi app support nor new item icons most of the time. Keep it on the App Store until runescape 3 mobile releases. Allot of people like me use it for chatting and for ge trading when theyĺre not at a computer.
Even if they are going to be releasing Runescape mobile soon. I don't feel like it is a good replacement for this app. RS mobile is a serious drain on data (tested on another device) if you are out and about and a lot of older devices cannot support it.
My phone isn't even that bad it can play most other apps and meets the minimum requirements stated but still can't handle it.
I am sure that Jagex can see the number of users on Companion app and can justify mothballing it, just disappointed all around.
