Where are the scimitars, hastas, spears, daggers, warhammers, regular swords, maces, battleaxes and claws for the new ores?!

These were interesting weapon types and its silly that they should be dropped!

I also hope they add them in, I think the variety is a nice QOL bonus. That said, I think it's neat that the default 1h or 2h weapon for all tiers isn't just a sword, I'm seeing more axes than I ever used to

The idea was for simplicity.
Throwing in and designing that many weapons and items was going to take a lot longer than expected, and would've held back the update even further.
We were already itching for it.

it makes perfect sense, its completely awkward having new smithables without 80% of the stuff that you can smith. Plus its about quality of life, they coulda taken the extra time to add these weapons which people woulda enjoyed. It feels very incomplete Ghad: struggling against the enemies of me boiz

It doesn't make too much sense to introduce them right now. It might when we're getting that weapon diversity update at some point in the future.

Or they could delegate other weapon types to monster drops such that Smithing only offer 1 baseline entry point to a tier.

Downside: no weapon variety in those specific metal types
Upside: there'd be an argument to remove the level deduction on smithed weapon stats since differing weapon types would offer an increased incentive to obtain them apart from stats.

Yes of course - but I certainly wouldn't remove functionality from skills that was there for 18 years now.

Too many item slots. When you have 5 variants for each upgrade, multiply that times 5 weapons, it's a lot of item slots all dedicated to items that do the same thing, more or less.

Doing it this way leaves room for growth for other unique weapons later on, from other sources, or maintains niche of other existing weapons. Every weapon variety being supplied by smithing would render a lot of content obsolete unnecessarily.
