Morning all,

In the Mining and Smithing dev blog, we said we would “aim to change the poll based on your feedback before it opens for voting”. There’s been feedback, so now we’re changing it!

The ‘Yes’ option for the High-level Mining and Smithing Update will now need 75% to pass. We will also be starting the poll earlier than planned, on Wednesday 30th August.

The threshold is changing from 50% to 75% due to the significance of what we’re polling (something you have rightly mentioned in feedback). The poll is to effectively postpone an improvement to the core of the game, so that we can release content for the endgame: that’s a fundamental and large change, so we should expect a large proportion of the community to back it. 75% will now be required to change our plans to a high-level Mining and Smithing update.

The date of the poll is changing because there doesn’t seem to be much reason to wait. We had planned for a week to give people chance to give feedback, but so much feedback has been received that we don’t want to waste any more time. We want to start planning development as soon as the poll finishes, regardless of the option.

I think this is a very bad decision. In any democracy they never require a super majority to pass. This just allows a minority of people to overrule a majority of people.

Imagine if the EU Referendum required 75% to pass.
Imagine if a government needs 75% of the vote to form a majority.

This is a very strange and frankly incredibly undemocratic to require a super majority. It should stay a simple 50% to pass.

EDIT: Imagine if Yes gets about 65% of the vote, and No gets 35%, In your scenario you will still do the Full rework even though a vast majority would be against it. This is why it doesn't make sense.

So, to clarify, if it doesn't reach 75%, then you will do the entire update in one go?

E: Since the "yes" option was in favour of doing some now and some later:

Original message details are unavailable.
Should we develop a high level Mining & Smithing update which brings all the 70+ benefits of the rework sooner, but delays the tidying up of old content?

1. Yes
2. No

Yes, because Jagex should be aiming to replicate the EU referendum, a vote that has tore the country apart, increased separatist movements and resulting in a weak leader taking the UK out of the EU upsetting half the country whilst failing to deliver the asinine promises made to the other half resulting in no one being happy.

That is *clearly* the goal Jagex should be getting for future updates.........
Wake me up when Osborne resigns | Will not be renewing membership until Jagex deals with its toxic developer culture & has a new, better lead designer | *Soon TM” is not a fun joke, it is an admission the company is an embarrassment

1. In any (good) democracy, minority rights are protected. You can't have 51% of people vote the other 49% into slavery.

2. We're getting the smithing rework either way, this poll just determines the extent and the timeframe of the rework, as to whether it's split into two or delayed and shipped out complete. Considering a "yes" vote could delay the level rework indefinitely, it makes sense that a supermajority would be required to overrule and delay something for the good of the game. Hence the relevance of my first comparison.

3. Runescape isn't a democracy.

Think what you like. It is undemocratic to ignore a Majority vote in any situation. To do something with a minority vote doesn't make sense in the slightest.
