As for those telling us to stop. You need to just leave this thread. And I am think a lot more anger is coming from those who believe being gay is a bad thing since Armadyl is gay. (And I know that is probably a large amount of the hate now, because people refuse to accept it)

It is not that we are obsessed with the quest, it is the fact that we have little to no lore on Armadyl and we need lore. The quest was for the lore players. If it was only a few of us, it would never be in the polls to begin with.

Spitting on the people who want this quest is spitting on the entire lore community which this game is built on and the main reason a lot of people still play the game.

I love the fact Armadyl is gay and I want a quest on Gielinor that focuses on Armadyl.

My anger is focused solely on certain bird obsessed players and their spiteful, excluding behaviours.

If you want to make accurate criticisms of the quest, or you think you can come up with better ideas, then fine. Feel feee to post a thread on the Suggestions Forums and put it out on Reddit; I'll probably end up finding it. And if the idea really is legit and well-thought out, I'd even support it. As I've said numerous times, I just want some Aviansie lore and content. Doesn't necessarily need to be RoP. Linking it here might get you an icy reception, I would caution.

Whatever you think of the "certain birds," that has nothing to do with the substance of the quest nor does it have ANY place in this thread. I really don't want to ask againŚplease stop trying to stir up drama. End of discussion.

The new Marshall of the Guardians of Armadyl, i.e. Idria's auccessor, is named Chevyra. I later confirmed the spelling with Mod Raven. Of note is that Chevyra has an Aviansie name, but is not an Aviansie; this person (and this is MY SPECULATION) took an Aviansie name for themselves, possibly after having gone through their own Rite of Passage.

I'd of course strongly recommend watching the entire VOD of the lore marathon on YouTube, as there was generally a lot of interesting stuff there.

Oops, I gave you the wrong spelling, sorry, my brain was absolutely fried by the time we spoke later. Sorry.

The name is "Cheveeyra" (pronounced Shay-Vee-Ra). It is indeed an aviansie name given to a human. They took the name after converting to Armadyl's philosophy.

The name has an important meaning for the character when translated from the aviansie tongue, but I won't spoil that here.

Disclaimer: This is a planned character, but not official yet. She may cease to exist entirely.

On the subject of Rite of Passage and the suggestions of smaller content put forward at RuneFest (notable the special islands thing), if we're creating an island kit, then we're actually not doing much less work than the multiple islands of Abbinah.

With that in mind, let's address the scale of RoP.

My pitch for RoP would be this:

* We are not going to give you ALL of Abbinah, but a few key islands and some skilling islands (a not insignificant amount of work, but better than a planet).
* Focus on the core quest and add in some aviansie lore tidbits across the islands, but not a thousand words of dialogue per character.
* No completely bespoke new skilling methods (To'Bit AFK hunter for example), but allow some existing resource skilling nodes. Trees/ore/etc.

This is still sizeable, but if you're ok with me bringing it down to this level then what we have is a bit more achievable. I can focus on the storytelling, rather than trying to create days worth of gameplay in a single area.

Crucially, I would like to create room for the islands on Abbinah to potentially be expanded over time, potentially even in TAPP, rather than deliver maximum Abbinah immediately.

It's still a big job! But it's not an expansion sized job.

Would this be good enough?

---

Oh and those saying the premise is boring... do you really think the entire thing is a giant fetch quest? Really? Do you really think I would care as much as I do about a simple fetch quest? Please. :P

I'm curious as to what aviansie make their gear out of. I've been taking to calling it a mithril, silver, adamant alloy infused with magic. Going off of what aviansie drop, though not sure on the mithril, but getting a Canon on what they use for making armor would be awesome.

Also that scaled down idea is good enough. Especially if you can add some Abbinah specific things down the line.

Ah! Right, thanks for posting the correction here. Now that the VOD is out on Youtube, I was going to again summarize the things we learned from the Q&A about Armadyl and the like here. Haven't gotten around to it, sorry. I'll try to put that up tomorrow, unless someone beats me to it.

My thoughts on this are, I just want some Aviansie lore, content, quest, ect. Doesn't have to be RoP, though that's not to say I'd be terribly upset if that's what we get. I was saying that alternatives should at least be considered. Getting cheaper alternatives that still give us the same-ish amount of lore about Aviansies/Armadyleans, to the greatest extent possible without Abbinah, is far preferable to me than being strung along forever for this quest.

If RoP can be released, then great. That saves me a lot of time in actually trying to come up with alternative quest premises (though it's still fun to do that, too; as Leth said, it's better than just "roosting here waiting for something that will never come" ). Abbinah would have been perfect for an Expansion, but that's never going to happen. Since RoP was only meant to be the beginning of an Abbinah series (per the Above the Lore Podcast from ye ancient times of 2013) I think it's totally fine to release a less-expensive version of Abbinah and focus more on the story. Let's also just hope we don't have to wait as long for the sequel as we have for this. Yikes.

Anyways. I still hope to see an element of exploration (and perhaps we can "replay" the quest, but instead of a reset, we can simply return to the core and get some more water for the fun of it?), some new songs (something DESPERATELY lacking for Armadyl that few people really bring up), more variation of Aviansie character models (perhaps a hatchling? Not as a pet, but just an adorable little ball of floof we can go "awww" over), and of course, MORE LORE. I think this all could be accomplished with a proper team, though it'll still be a big project.

So, overall, I agree with the people here saying "yes." Releasing the world in one go would have been great for an Expansion. I don't like to think of the new proposal as "watering it down" or "doing it on a budget," though. We're still getting the quest, and a bit of the world to explore. That's better than being strung along for something that would require an Expansion, something we'll realistically probably never get. Even if Expansions were still a thing, though, we still probably would not have gotten the Abbinah expansion anyways.

Ah, and since Mod Raven alluded to it, I'm still working on my (sort of) alternative to Abbinah. I'll be looking to post it elsewhere. I don't expect this to gain any traction; I'm not looking for support (and it's NOT meant to "compete" with RoP in any way); I'm more going to propose it as a sort of "backup" plan. It's at this point more therapeutic for me, so that I can say, "Well, I proposed a backup plan, at the very least."

Before I had assumed Armadyl found the Staff of Armadyl on Gielinor, that it is not so is curious. I don't remember where I got the assumption from on the top of my head and it is a bit of digging to find out :P

That the artefact isn't responsible for Abbinah's state makes the idea that it could be the hammer slightly less likely, I would say.

Personally I am not at all a fan of compromise on/ideas to replace the quest. However I don't consider a brand new skilling method important and didn't think it was ever a part of the actual quest design. Instead I imagined it was part of plans to make it fit the then upcoming expansion model which may have required a bigger package; so I am perfectly fine with seeing this go to make it more feasible.

When it comes to less islands and dialogue I am not such a fan, I would want to see as much as possible here. So if you cut the new skilling method, totally fine, but the rest I would hold on to as much as possible.

In the original design the only skilling I am aware of is that there'd be a form of resources on Abbinah, and you could get to them by exploring and in return discover lore tidbits, which I see is still part of the pitch. So I think skilling-wise it's all good.

And I'd rather get something than be strung along forever for an idea far too ambitious for its budget. I think in order to really well and truly "do it justice," the world needed for this quest would be as much work to make as The Arc, Prifddinas, or Menaphos (and Armadyl forbid it be "batched";). That's why Mod Raven proposes to just give us as much of the world as is necessary in order to just get this quest. Would I ideally have loved to see RoP as a part of an Expansion, perhaps the introductory quest to unlock full access to Abbinah, with another quest or two with it on release? Of course. But that's just flat-out never going to happen.

I don't interpret Mod Raven's proposal to be a cut on any dialogue or story. In fact, we might even be getting more dialogue with this proposal (as opposed to a more rewards-focused proposal), or some post-quest lore tidbits to search for after the quest is done (akin to the Memoriam Crystals from Fate of the Gods).

By focusing on the "core quest," the lore and interactions with characters will take precedence over adding in any superfluous islands that aren't necessary for the actual quest. I think he really just meant that each character won't have 1000 words. I would imagine Aralim or Cheveeyra would still have a lot to say, but if, for example, Taw'Paak or Taka'ra make an appearance, they'd have less to say since they are not as crucial to the plot.
