Ah I misread I thought you were meaning after Rop and end game. Sorry.

Fixing up Elite dungeons for Abbinah is a great idea - and it doesn't have to be elite dungeons either. A regular dungeon tied with a correlation to floor 61 would be great and since the Floor 61 quest is something Jagex has been wanting to do for a long time and had good votes on the survey, Floor 61 could come right after RoP in sequence. For some reason, dragonkins seem to be forgotten to have an important role in this quest series.

I don't think Elite Dungeons will take place on Abbinah.

Remember that Jagex plans to release the 3rd (and likely final) "Elite Dungeon" in December, maybe early 2019.

They haven't even started development on Rite of Passage. Heck, Mod Raven doesn't even have the final initial design to submit.
Even then, he wouldn't be able to start full development until after Player Owned Farms is complete.
Given how long quests take, and that Elite Dungeons are a project about the size of a quest dev (bigger?) .... you'd end up with a 4th or 5th Elite Dungeon needing to come out later in 2019.
In addition, this Elite Dungeon would be locked behind an end game level quest.

Many of the so call "raid" stuff we have in game right now isn't really locked behind a lot of quests or even forcing you to use any major skills outside of combat/summoning.
- Vorago has no quest reqs
- Mazcab raids have no quest reqs
- Elite Dungeon 1 needs Impressing the Locals and that is a noob quest
- Elite Dungeon 2 requires completing Elite Dungeon 1
- Solak has no quest reqs (though Fairy Rings and a few other things help)
- RotS helps if you have something with quick access to Barrows and Burgh de Rott, but it is not required
- Kalphite King no reqs

Nex is about the only Raid/group boss that uses an odd skill (agility) and has quest reqs to get to (progress in Troll Stronghold) and then the corporeal beast (Summer's End).

I agree that an Elite Dungeon set on Abbinah wouldn't currently make sense to be developed before Rite of Passage according to everything we know about it. But if we think outside the box, that dungeon, or some alternative don't necessarily sound completely unreasonable.

There is precedent, certainly, for having us go to regions of a world that we would normally expect to be accompanied with a very large content update. It happened with Player Owned Ports when we gained the ability to teleport to a tiny deserted island in the Shield region (if I recall correctly), it happened on Kethsi where we've only seen little isolated pockets of that world, and even with Tarddiad... which, in that case, it was not physically isolated at all, there just wasn't much to be seen at that particular location and there were boundaries keeping anyone from wandering.

An Elite Dungeon on Abbinah could be set on some remote part of the planet as a self-contained experience. You would not need to travel there before beginning, but rather talk to an NPC to 'arrange for transport' in some fashion.

But even if Abbinah isn't deemed suitable, surely there are other Armadyl-relevant dungeon possibilities - what about having retaking the Empyrean Citadel as an Elite Dungeon, where you face off against horrors and traps unleashed when the wards around it are probed? How about exploring an ancient Aviansie stronghold buried in the Wilderness, where some other force may lurk?

I don't want RoP to be seen as the be-all and end-all way to get these stories out of the gate. Nobody should want that if its development future is so utterly uncertain.

Personally I would like to be able to set it post-endgame, but without endgame as a hard requirement. That way I get to tell the better story and we can start making lower level quests again, since, let's be honest, most people know the Endgame story by now even if they haven't played it and anyone who diehard needs to complete content in order will already be doing that, so it's the best result for most people.

= Raven =

Yeeeees! Yes! This! And also what Takara said. There's no downside to doing it this way.

Firstly I'm glad to hear of the direction you want to take it Raven (post-endgame with lowered requirements). I think that's a good way to do it that people can get behind :)

__

This is probably not directly related to ROP but I saw on reddit that a concept artist posted a set of unused RuneScape character designs for people to see, one of the characters is very much what appears to be an Aviansie:

Always possible we'll see a similar design for some characters we'll meet in the future. I like how they are embracing the Aviansie having many unique looks/unique 'breeds' - and not just going with one style.

By the looks of it the characters may have been related to ports, with the Aviansie looking like some sort of farmer. This would be interesting given the only other Aviansie we've seen outside of Armadyl camps is Odd Billy, who also found his way to the Eastern Lands. There may not be much to that though.

Another piece of news that seems to have come out of Reddit recently appears to be that there will be no TAPP for the foreseeable future.

Only Raven would know, but from what we know he did look into ROP sometimes during TAPP, so hopefully this doesn't impact it far too much.

Honestly, I don’t think that’ll make a difference to this quest. There was no way it’d get done with just TAPP—it would eventually at some point need to be picked up for development by a full team. I think even a bottle quest would need to be picked up by a full team to realistically have a chance of making it into the game.

One just hopes that Mod Raven got all that he wanted to get done for this quest before TAPP was put on hold.
F/K/A The Aviansie. Still not just any old Aviansie!

Rite of Passage.
