Under Mourning's End Part III, include that they're shooting to make it the 200th quest and maybe even that they've done some work looking into the technicalities of epicness for it. :P

I heard it in the most recent ATL, I believe.

Awesome topic, Congratulations on V2! :) I remember the first version fondly.

Are you sure the Fate of the Gods quest revealed in Runefest is the same as the World Gate quest erliar mentioned as being developed by Mod Rowley?

I don't believe it is. The Wiki has more on each of them and they not only are listed separately but they also sound very different. Amascut, have a poke at the "Upcoming Updates" page on RS Wiki, and/or to each of their respective pages.

I think they decided to name the World Gate quest that way. And I don't think, that you might be thinking, it is coincidence that each wiki would sound different. Just calm down and try not to worry too much; I hear its not good for you anytime of year, ok?

More and more disappointment. :| This quest is going to be a "disaster"...Just wish Jagex hadn't rushed this the way they seem to be doing.

So, we now have a schedule for this year's quests, currently!

- Dishonour Among Thieves
- Dimension of Disaster
- 201 God Quest
- Myreque IV
- "A sort of random one" (From today's Quests AMAA on Reddit)
- RuneLabs Quest month (It's been mentioned an upcoming RuneLabs month will be an entirely quest-devoted month!)

Additionally, we'll get a 7th if a Quest wins this month's RuneLabs!

W00t! A schedule!

..Not bad...Could do with more quests, but that's OK, as aforementioned, the sizes seem pretty great! :D

Excited!!! Fremennik quest, eh..? For 201? Hmm..!! And experienced, too. Finally! We've been severely lacking in that area lately xD

Lol, ever thought about an area called Karamja? Or maybe the wasted drought of potential that is currently the Kharidian Desert. ;-) There are so many places that need some love!

@Amascut, you might want to edit the 201st Quest being released "Sometime in spring" to something more appropriate like "Summer".

The hype is great, I love it!

-Lucas the S

When I said, "We've been severely lacking in that area lately," I was referring to the experienced-level nature of the quest. We haven't had an experienced quest in a really long time.

I thought it was very odd how the video made it sound like Seren quest is coming first - which, coming so quickly, could only mean absurdly low production values. But perhaps I misinterpreted, and V quest will be 201. August?

V (Hero's Welcome) IS quest 201. I thought I said that a few times :P 201 will be either June or July, Seren is August, Myreque is September, Goebie is either September or October, and whichever quest wins RuneLabs in July will be in December.

Additionally, if you vote for Broken Minds in the RuneLabs poll launching tomorrow, we'll get a miniquest sequel to Broken Home that I might see if I could get bumped up to a Novice-tier quest, for a total of 8 quests this year! It'd be small, but still.

Good luck! :)

HYYYYYYYYYYYYPE for Seren quest. Can't wait to see her new look. :)

Iceey said:
I don't think they will kill off someone as big as Seren. V was basically a no body.

Bandos was a big character, but he did already have an entire questline already. But I guess Seren indirectly did as well.

I am not even sure Seren or Zaros can be killed. I think the are truly immortal. Seren blew herself up in millions of pieces and is still alive and Zaros had basically all his energy drained by Zaros, but is also still alive.

I just don't see them killing such a big character off this early. Not to mention I do not think Gaga Lady would want that and he is helping them with it a bit.

I think it will only be the Top 5 Ideas. But who knows.

* Bank Quest - I don't know. I like the idea, but again I don't. Honestly we are in a world of magic, I don't see it being that hard of a concept to understand that they use magic mass store everything. It could be fun, but I don't like it taken a spot.

~ Although I wouldn't mind going back to Tutorial Island every now and then, I just don't like the concept of it. I have played for 10 years, I just don't understand why it is needed.

~ Menaphos, ah yes. One of my two that I will be voting for. It would be a good time to possibly release the Soul Altar, but it would have to be a Master quest for it to match Blood. So our hopes might be shot on that one. I think it would be fun going back though. Especially with the Halloween event.

~ Again, an awesome idea. I would love to have a werewolf based quest because they have been rejected so much. This could bring in Gar'ath and possibly let us learn what happened to Arisha, Castmire, and Theo. I love werewolves to. So a plus.

~ Don't really care for the concept. Maybe a miniquest, but not worthy of a quest.

~ This could be fun, but I will not be voting for it.

All in all, the only 2 true quests that should even be considered are the Menaphos or Werewolf one.

Couldn't agree more.

Sadly, it looks like neither of those two will win...

*sigh*

The SOUL altar.
Icthlarin does something with souls right? I forgot what exactly, but that connection would justify the soul altar being beneath menaphos.

Hope your idea wins, amascut, as it's the only decent looking quest storywise.
Also, I'm really looking forward to the light within and the upcoming vampyre quest.

Icthlarin helps ferry souls, and Amascut actully eats them! I thought a fun development would be Amascut actally hunting the Soul Altar, and it's under Menaphos which is why she took it over :)

Thanks so much!

This would be so cool.

I don't know how much influence Mod Ana will have on the vampire quest. I mean Rowl*y just said he is writing dialogue now, a while after Ana left and that was part she said she would be contributing to. Of course she had plans but Rowl*y could dismiss them. Probably they just said she would be included to satisfy branches fans.

Indeed, I don't think she ended up having much more than story outline help before she left.

Also with a firm lead, it looks like the tutorial island quest will see the year out. I talked to the author, she seems very nice and would focus on underwater races. It sounds quite cool if they listen to her.

Honestly, I still hope something else wins. Can't see a Tutorial Island quest not being awful without most of it having nothing to do with Tutorial Island. I was glad to see it removed, and I just wish it would never come back. Adding a quest about it, when the one small little reference in PoP was move than enough, seems just wrong. Sorry, but I absolutely never support nostalgia stuff. It feels like a step back to re-add the Tutorial Island underwater, and especially bad to randomly stick Underwater races on it, when it's an island with like 6 houses on it and one tiny underwater bit, and nothing else of interest.

Did Ana leave Jagex, or are you just talking about when she left for the Ninja team?

Also, again, I couldn't agree more, Amascut... Tutorial Island got the tribute it deserved with the little mention in Player-Owned Ports. A small homage for the veteran players.

Plus, the fact that it's been the case that Jagex has pushed to keep tutorial island where it belongs - in the past - (By creating a new tutorial, insisting there were no future plans for it, and with the little tribute in Player-Owned Ports) - and then, for this to come up now, only makes me think moreso that it's going to be bad, y'know??

Things just aren't looking good for this.

And that's without mentioning the fact that this wasn't supposed to be too big a quest, too big an update - As something that's supposed to be done within a few months, I don't know how they're going to manage to make it good, AND about tutorial island, in that short a timespan. :|

It's going to suck.

Hey Amascut and all the other fine questers!

Jagex is considering releasing a quest point master cape and started a dev blog about it. Right now its only considered a cosmetic update and i think thats a shame. There are quite a bit of requirements comparable with the comp cape, thus i feel that the qp master cape should have competitive functions to the best cape in game. I'm not thinking so much in stats but in the functions themselves ( teleports, acting in place of items, etc) . Overall the idea is for it to become the best non combat cape in game. When you get a minute please head over to the thread and read through and leave any ideas you guys have, thanks!

Quick find code for the quest point master cape: 373-374-5-65659523 (my posts start on pg13)

It is indeed! It's been totally confirmed as of today's BTS as well.

No, definitely the Vampyre quest.

Uhm, well

If you look closely, that post was made in July, so "next month," would be August. The Vampyre quest is coming in September.

See my point? :|

Anywho, here's some further updates for now:

- Seren quest is confirmed to have Crystalline Shapeshifters in it as monsters to fight post-quest which will drop Crystal armour (a weaker and stronger version)

Now, have these actually ever been seen in RuneScape? I believe they're on AoG... but I don't know that I've heard of them ever being on RS!

But crystal armor, cool! What tier will it be, do you reckon? 70?

My biggest concern: Dev time.

Everything you said is great, and has potential - But the problem is, this quest only has four months of Dev time. It's supposed to be out by the end of the year.

How are they going to manage a great story about an underwater city in four months?

And the other thing is... People are voting for it for all the wrong reasons. People are nostalgic, but you just clarified that your idea wasn't about nostalgia at all.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend you, I just don't have a good feeling about this.

I know some people voted for it for the wrong reasons and if I see them I correct them but it's not my fault if they don't choose to come to the forums and see what I actually proposed. The poll did say that Tutorial Island is underwater and as much as I would like to believe that everybody read that and took that as Tutorial Island will not be coming back as it once was I know some did not.

And Amascut, I already stated a few times that
I left my Runelabs submission without much information on purpose.
I was under the impression that is what they wanted and I am still not entirely sure they wanted an entire description. Also, if there are new creatures inhabiting that area, why wouldn't there be new architecture and things to do? Jagex can add things. I'm sure it is pretty boring beneath Menaphos right now.

Runescape is not a dark and serious game. They pushed for a "filler" quest. The serious nature of the updates this year most likely made them want something lighthearted.

If people are mad on the first day because they didn't seek out more information they have no one to blame but themselves.
You use the forums. You have the ability to discuss it and pitch your own ideas. But as I already said not everyone will be pleased and anyone who is not is going to have to deal with it.

Am I the only one who sees the problem with this or ?

stupid tutorial island quest. the bank quest was infinitely more creative and interesting.

TBH, Bank quest was the one I wanted least. Trying to explain game mechanics in story form pretty much never works, and comes off as forced, not fun.

I'm with Amascut. The only real quest ideas in that poll were the "What's under Menaphos?" and, "What if Werewolves rebelled?" Personally, the rest were pretty rubbish ideas for quests - Those're the only ones that could've made a good story, gameplay, etc.

That said, I haven't entirely lost faith in the Tutorial Island quest, simply because the suggester(?) of the idea "purposely left the RL post vague so people would go to the Forums and read more." Which, of course, was dumb in my opinion because the vast majority aren't going to do that and especially when they see "Tutorial Island" are just going to upvote the crap out of it because nostalgia. However, the actual suggestion for the quest, which isn't that nostalgia-ridden (and probably wouldn't have won if she hadn't been so vague in the RL post as a result - something I hold against the suggester), actually has some potential to make a decent story and quest. I still have concerns with it, mainly dev time and the fact that people are going to rage when it's not nostalgia-ridden, but the actual idea for it isn't so bad.

That's why I lump it in with the ideas that were "rubbish," but I still have faith in it - The pitch in the RL post was rubbish as it was purposely vague (again, I don't appreciate this as I feel that it was very manipulative with the intention of winning - and it worked, but anyways), ergo a bad quest idea, and the fact that people only voted for it because nostalgia is equally rubbish, but the actual thing has some potential.

Anyways. Those're my two (hundred) cents.

Did I say that?

I left it vague because the criteria, to me, seemed as if they were looking for vague. I felt that they were looking to answer it on their own accord without much input from the suggester. Why ask us to ask a question just to answer it ourselves? That was my interpretation.

I apologize, looking back through your posts on this thread, you didn't quite say that. I must have misremembered.

Just to chime in here, if I may -

I find myself agreeing with all your guy's points about the story for the Myreque series but (keeping in mind I have yet to ever finish Legacy of Seergaze and even start Branches of Darkmeyer, I've only read about them and have a general idea of what happens), I feel compelled to point out some of the series'... shinier(?) aspects. :P

I for one, really, really enjoyed the gameplay in the first three quests - especially In Aid of the Myreque and Darkness of Hallowvale. While they were very long and kind of crazy, and perhaps the story wasn't the best (as y'all have established), I did absolutely love the gameplay. It felt so... "quest-y," and the "puzzles" I found not only unique in style and gameplay to the series, but also very realistic and immersive as far as what was going on and what the player was doing.

I was also duly impressed with the amount of content and detail put into them, and at the same time, not: For one, they're old(er) quests, and as a result, one would expect less of an ability to really detail things and make them immersive (as I said I found them), but at the same time, Jagex has been making more "streamlined" quests lately, with less... "quest-iness"(?) to them, as opposed to older quests with generally crazier puzzles (or so I've found). So, yeah, odd little thing of mine. :P

Anyways! That's all I wanted to say, really. :)

The bad news is to bring the quest up to date, they are basically going to have to scrap the old code, and build it from the ground up like they did with Demon Slayer, Rune Mysteries, Druidic Ritual, Wolf Whistle and more.
Spiritually, you might get the same quest (you have to slay a dragon), but you probably see a whole new set of mechanics.
And 'm not sure Jagex is big on doing it unless they've got nothing better to do (ha!) or players vote on it thru RuneLabs or Jagex setting up a poll of "hey everyone, we're going to rework and old quest and want you, the players to vote on which 1 we do!"

Legitimately, that's what needs to happen. From the ground total rework, with the general story core remaining in place with Crandor and the three brothers.

One of the mages was a girl ... check the rs wikia transcript for it ...

Yeah -- Thalzar, I believe it was (that's off the top of my head, though -- so, correct me if I'm wrong...), the one who lived across the river from Lumbridge castle, and was killed by Goblins (Which, let's be real here -- How realistic is that?? A mage powerful enough to be one of the three sole survivors off Crandor gets bested by a bunch of chumps??).

Also, I don't know that they were siblings -- Melzar, Lozar, and Thalzar... Were they?

really? those are the names? lol... ya im not feeling them either.

I'd like to think they agreed with us as the name has been changed to Beneath Cursed Tides. BTS is out with a look at it. Thanks for all your help co-operating with us and them to make a better product. The quest isn't out yet and by the sounds of it I'd prefer a little less nostalgia but it does seem to have a basic (although unknown) plot structure at this point which I fear if left to their own devices The Watch would fail at.

From what I know about it, the plot should offer some of the things serious questers were looking for although based on the requirements, I can't imagine it will be very difficult, which is not necessarily a bad thing. They were looking for a good mix of nostalgia and new stuff going into it so I'd like to believe they did a good job at doing so considering they were focused on that aspect.

The mention of trying to rescue survivors has left me quite enthusiastic! That was a big part I was hoping to see from any return to Tutorial Island.

I find myself +1ing you a lot, my friend.

So if not obvious by now, I'm skipping doing video content for Beneath Cursed Tides. I want to, and have a script written, but am injured, and also don't have the time to really get the video done. Considering the quest is coming out in a few days, I'll likely do a post-quest thing (likely a review) instead!

Speaking of reviews, I was chatting with some friends on Twitter, and mentioned the idea of going through all the quests in RS, likely by release date, and doing short (sub 5 minute) reviews of them, in either podcast-y form, or with some visuals in the background.

Any thoughts on that?

This would be epic. I always thought that the RS Wikia (for example) was missing a "critical reception" section, like in movies on W*kiped*a. XD

I'd love it though.

So if not obvious by now, I'm skipping doing video content for Beneath Cursed Tides. I want to, and have a script written, but am injured, and also don't have the time to really get the video done. Considering the quest is coming out in a few days, I'll likely do a post-quest thing (likely a review) instead!

The first one is out now! I also put it into text, and posted on these here forums :P

Planning to write and record one or two more tomorrow.

Awesomesauce!

I'll try and get around to watching it ASAP -- currently a tad bit behind in school, but it's on my list!

I don't see how Nomad was important to questers. He was a boss fight and a mystery. We can get better ones.

All of this. Nomad himself wasn't interesting. He just happened to be connected to ideas that were. Supposedly, we'll actually find out more about Nomad's master in Elegy. If Requiem were to get a sequel tying to Elegy, I'd rather it be about that master than Nomad himself, and even then, that too depends on how Elegy turns out.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I agree with this.

Nope, don't have much of anything to add, but yeah. :P Sorry! Dx

The Tales sound promising. Hopefully the first one is well received and we get more. Sounds like a great addition to miniquest, lore & histories and post quest dialogue to disperse lore that doesn't exact require a quest. Hopefully this will mean we get a lore update most months, if not every month in coming years.

So we've had Nomad's Elegy in February, and we've got River of Blood theorized for April, Ballad for May, and Anniversary for June, but then we've got a massive break in between June and, let's say, October, which is when we're forecasting Fot* II, and then December, for Sliske's Endgame.

Even if I'm off on some of the estimates, that's still only six quests, and we'll still have some massive breaks in between stuff there towards the end.

...Which, if even the last couple of years serve as any indicator, means we still don't know about at least one or two.

:D!

Thoughts anyone??

We know that one at least is most likely NOT RoP... Could one be Penguin IV? What else could one be?? What do we want it/them to be?!

THIS THREAD WONT DIE ON MY WATCH. MEGA-BUMP.

Also since I don't see much discussion on future quests, I think I might know something about the Monkey and Gnome series. It seems that both quests have broken off of each other, but i believe they will meet again, the gnomes are certainly not done with the monkeys, but I doubt this will be resolved within the Glouphrie storyline, unless Glough really is apart of Arposandra (he looks like one of those ninja gnomes).

But how will we get back into Arposandra? I believe I know how, heres how I believe the beginning of the next Gnome quest would play out, step by step.

1. Bolrie finally stops procrastinating and asks for our help after 5 years (or 6 since I doubt it will be coming out this year).
2. You and him are aware that you blocked off the vent entrance previously, but if you remember in the Path of Glouphrie, before you were almost electrocuted to death in the sewer, there were doors that lead somewhere unknown. Remember in Arposandra, the floor you first entered on had similar looking doors? Playing through recently, I examined the doors and apparently they smell of sewage, meaning they lead back to the sewer. You tell Bolrie this and you set off.
3. You and him acquire rubber boots to avoid the electrocution, kill the terrorbird guards, and break into the city.
From there, a bunch of espionage, fighting, and twists.

Who knows what to expect, but I seriously doubt that this quest wont be the last, unless its grandmaster and had WGS length.

You mean you "doubt that [it] will be the last"? :P

lol, just thought for 2017 or 2018.
Pirate Finale
Gnome Finale
Rite of Passage
The do a thematic year with the remaining Desert Series and opening up Menaphos

That could in theory, finish out most of the 5th Age stuff, in addition to doing a 6th Age.
Bad news is that it would probably gobble up so many resources that you wouldn't get much else in quest content for the year, and with several large new areas having to be created, wouldn't get much else either.

I, for one, wouldn't mind...!!

No worries, I have no plan to make a thread. I did go back and add when the last installments of each series came out.

Karamja is just so so outdated in content. Last quest was in 2004 and we still have 2007 Graphics there. So I guess when the next quest comes out there, there will be an overhaul of the area.

I'm guessing this is at least partly the reason why it has been left so in the dust -- it's such a huge area and the graphics just keep getting more and more outdated, that fixing it becomes a more and more monumental task, that requires more and more resources. :|

According to Mod Ozzy, the Karamjan God(s?) is/are still planned, and this was recent, like early 2016 or something. Could we see a Karamjan quest this year? Plus, Mod Doctor is apparently working on a super secret project, perhaps its a Karamjan quest (no evidence, just a guess)

Oooh, a super-secret project?? Source?? Or is there any discussion going on about it -- any hints or whatnot?? :D

There's also that noob guard out in the swamp near Ivandis' Tomb. Mod Rowl*y didn't kill him off in the last quest.

Lol Cyreg Paddlehorn??

I've always wondered what was going to become of him.

Was he ever even considered fully a Myreque?? Why hasn't anything happened with him since the first quest in the series??

As unlikely as it is, I for one will be extremely disappointed if he doesn't get some form of closure in River of Blood.

I wouldn't want to see Imp Catcher reworked. Even though it's rather primitive, it feels a lot nicer in the current Wizard's Tower, and it also has the distinction of being on of Runescape's few fully-voiced quests, which I don't want to see lost (the same way it was lost for Burthorpe/Taverley).

I replayed Dragon Slayer fairly recently, and it still feels appropriately epic as a f2p finale. If I changed anything, I'd maybe replace some of the items that can be easily obtained off the GE with unique untradable versions, as the excitement of tracking these items down was a big part of the adventure for me the first time around.

Sure, this doesn't compare to the Death of Chivalry, but if f2p needs a new finale, I think it would be much better served by a sequel that ramps up the action/story of Dragon Slayer, and gives more significance to all those unexplained aspects of the quest, rather than do away with it entirely. Sequels are always preferable to reworks.

What's up, dude? I know this is kind of a thing you do, but is it lack of proficiency with English, or some vague statement you're making on derivative viewpoints, or what?

You really ought to quote people if you're going to repost their thoughts.

While I'm glad to see another tale, I'm not sure it's necessary.

I felt very satisfied with the way Nomad's story was wrapped up in Elegy. I don't feel like I need to know every detail of his backstory, that every single iota of mystery needs to be uncovered. I feel the story is stronger for not elaborating on every single thing, and provides a little buffer room, if needed in future.

It feels like a concession to players, though. All these people who griped about a lack of postquest content.

I feel like expectations/demands for postquest content have become pretty absurd. Zanik's out in the world. There's clear evidence of our actions. There's no reason we need to be able to rush to Zaros and ask 20 questions about rando dude. What do folks expect?

Maybe it would be better if they just slapped the "Quest Complete" dialog on the screen 4/5 of the way through the quest.

I disagree - Nomad has a lot of leftover backstory that is necessary to finish off his arc. Elegy didn't touch on hanging threads from both NR and DAT. Like not little things, but major questions, especially regarding his Master(s).

Furthermore, players are more curious than they used to be. They WANT to know things, and the developers are doing something cool by making sure players can feel like these powerful beings care about THEM and are willing to answer their questions in the process. It's a good way to deliver smaller tidbits of lore, build character, and make the player feel special.

+1 I agree completely.

Information about Upcoming Tales!

Tales are a new form of quest-like content, filling the role of Miniquests that elaborate on background and introduce lore. Mahjarrat Memories is a great example of this type of content, story wise. They are smaller scale in size, but will have an impact both on the story and on rewards.

No new Tales have been announced at this time.

Hello, and welcome to the second incarnation of the Quests in the Making thread!

I'm Amascut, and I'm taking the time to compile information about upcoming quests that we get so that you, the reader, can have some knowledge of what Quests and Tales are due up next! If you hear something about quests I don't have here, please let me know.

So far, confirmed is...

-Sliske's Endgame - The final Sliske quest... Who will claim the Stone of Jas?

-
Bik's Awakening
- Next in the Elder Gods series, this quest explores Bik, slumbering below Entrana, and the threat of her stirring...

-Evil Dave Quest - Evil Dave is a huge fan of Zamorak. Like HUGE. What would happen if Dave got to meet him? What would happen if Dave made a stew for the occasion that caused some... odd body swapping effects? Find out in this quest!

-
Crocodile Tears
- Coming with MENAPHOS(!!!), Crocodile Tears is the next in the Desert series, exploring what has happened to a corrupted Crondis, and how to free her!

-More Menaphos quests? - In the Expansions description of Menaphos, more than one quest was briefly mentioned, and later confirmed by Mod Orion! Could more than two be coming?

-One Bottle Quest - One Bottle Quest is on the Schedule for July 2017!

Thanks a lot for reading, I do hope this comes in handy to you! If it did, please leave me a post; I'd love to chat with you!

In red -- those quest names -- Are those the confirmed names for them please? Or just working titles? Or what :o

Thanks ^_^

Bik's Awakening was just a descriptor, Crocodile Tears has been the working title for a Crondis quest for a long time.

Not quite. The quest Jack of Spades is what will grant a player access to Menaphos, and its only requirements so far are Stolen Hearts and Diamond in the Rough (as well as membership, of course).

The pet he is referring to is the one related to the Carnillean rising quest. You can claim a pet at 200qp and they also made one that could be claimed at 400qp. Yet to get to 400 though, should be this year.

Owut I didn't know there was a 200qp pet reward from Carnillean Rising O_O Nor a 400qp one, for that matter. Cool, thanks! :D

In summary, as of Runefest 2017, Quests in the Making = basically nothing.

We'll get our third full-fledged quest for the entire year before the end of it, and the only other quest on the horizon might not be until March of next year.

Meanwhile, this year we get 3 new bosses, 21 new slayer monsters, and 365 days of MTX promotions.

Sounds about right.
