Probably my favourite aspect of Elegy was how much it respected the story, both implicit and explicit, from Requiem, and how much it suggested motivations, schemes brought to their logical (horrifying) ends, without stating all of it outright. I loved that it relied on some inferences from the player, in a way that wasn't required, but made the story richer. I appreciated the way it handled stickier issues. Nomad's master, in particular, was alluded to with a particularly deft touch.

To go back over the story with a highlighter, or render the ambiguous bits in black and white - it just seems hollow. To me, a great tale leaves only half the story on the page, yet manages to be engaging, dense, and provocative. The dark corners of story that loom to monstrous stature in the theatre of the mind risk becoming small and mundane with a light shone on them.

Beyond this, resources feel a lot more finite now. The move from the auteur to the scrum system limits individual developers from executing their narrative visions with as much freedom. Now they're subject to a team, they're subject to multiple tiers of project managers, and releases need a larger scope to be worthwhile; the capacity for low-investment storytelling falls drastically, as does the number of stories.

So it's hard not to see this as one of a dozen other potential stories that did NOT get told (as faulty as that might be). I'm not opposed to getting a new tale - I'm thrilled to get new story, no matter what it may be. But it's disappointing, when a story has been so effectively and satisfactorily concluded, to keep dipping into that well, when we could have seen, say, Glouck's backstory. Or Mi-Gor's first meeting with Rabid Jack. Or the current fate of the Kharid-Ib.

I know that Jagex was listing quests to make it clear how certain chains progress, but I think we can simplify the list of Sliske's Endgame's requirements.

- The Death of Chivalry
- Children of Mah
- Heroes' Welcome
- Kindred Spirits
- Nomad's Elegy
- One of a Kind

Wake me up when Osborne resigns | Will not be renewing membership until Jagex deals with its toxic developer culture & has a new, better lead designer | *Soon TM” is not a fun joke, it is an admission the company is an embarrassment

Did mistype that, as it's supposed to be July not September. Was getting my dates mixed up.!

Personally, I wouldn't take that as confirmed. In the context it was shown, it's more likely to simply be just an example of the types and scale of update you could potentially get between expansion updates.

(Edit: I corrected your image tag so the one in this post works.)

Yeah, it was pointed out to me that this was shown as a hypothetical. Might leave it until someone says otherwise, but it's less confirmed.
