Jagex needs to be sure to release these at the same time. If the mobile market has the population draw I think its going to, one hitting the market before the other will really screw the influx of new players. Dont get me wrong, I want the update for me, and the way I play. But I am also excited for the new player draw. I think its going to be immense. The mobile market full of toxicity, the mmorpg that OSRS/RS3 have to offer is game changing.

OSRS has its BETA opening next Tuesday. RS3? Who knows... It would be an utter slap to RS3 players and community if OSRS hits the app stores a month, two, or even months before RS3.

Frankly the lack of information on RS3 mobile is infuriating. We get an occasional glimpse on twitch; yet the OSRS community... enjoy a consistent flow of updates and progress reports.

The problem with RS3 and mobile is the graphics. Even if they release the full version of OSRS for mobile doesn't necessarily mean that RS3 will be following close behind. Phone graphic's are a pain to work with on most games that have good graphics to begin with. The way it would be right now if they brought out the beta for RS3 would be that the graphics would be similar to that of Runescape back in let's say 2002-2003 pretty much the same what OSRS graphics. So it doesn't matter when RS3 mobile comes out, it will come out in beta soon enough when it's ready and not a moment sooner.

The gameplay they have shown already suggest your graphics theory is inaccurate (especially so on newer devices):

New devices have plenty of horsepower. Older devices can scale down.

RS3 Graphics on the phone were completely fine and the same as in the client version in the beta they had so thats not a worry.

I honestly feel like phone manufacturers (or perhaps app developers) have done an amazing job of dumbing down what people expect our current generation of smartphones to be capable of, what most of us have in our pockets today is as powerful as some of the old potatos people are running NXT on right now, my phone is just an old Samsung Galaxy S4, but even that will run playstation 1/PSP games smoothly, and the graphics of some of those psp games would probably rival runescape.

Everyone thinks phones are weak because phone games are trash made for casuals. You might not have top tier AA with vsync on all phones, but they can certainly be doing more than the GameBoy era games that you typically see on phones.

From a programming standpoint, OSRS would be easier to code and would be released several months before RS3. I understand that most people would want both released at the same time, but I would rather have a good game that's coded correctly rather than the trash that EA drops on consoles.

Getting one project done would free up resources and manpower to get the other mobile release fast-tracked instead of dividing teams to get both done at the same time.

So foolish. If they were smart they would do rs3 first and osrs later because rs3 is the one that is made for new players and way more up to date for obvious reasons.

What put out first is important. First impression is the one that matters, they are not getting the second chance.

Jagex does such crap business decisions... no wonder all their other games/projects fell flat on their face. Clearly lack of vision.

I disagree with this.. while phones are more capable than angry birds and candy crush, they lack a good way to control. Touch screen cannot replace the dpad and all those buttons... works only for some games that are point and click, so most other games have very poor controls... there is a reason why gaming on smartphones is so garbage and it's this.

This is what we got when apple decided to make a one button phone and everyone else copied... the pocket pc that came way before had much better design still had large screen and 4 programmable buttons and a dpad, was ideal for gaming.
