Hi everyone. This thread will provide information regarding the limits on buying items over the Grand Exchange. There is no selling limit -- you can sell as many items as you want over the GE at any time. Note that this thread only applies to the Grand Exchange in RuneScape 3.

This thread is divided into three portions: an explanation of the way limits work, a short list of commonly purchased items and limits, and a huge alphabetical list of nearly every item in RS and its respective limit. To find an item, use the table of contents to get to the page containing the first letter of that item, and then use Control+F to jump right to that item and find its limit. Check the first page of common items first as yours may be there.

If anything's missing or incorrect in this thread please let me know. Feel free also to profile this thread for future reference. Have fun snagging those deals on the GE!

Credit to R*** for the original idea for this thread. Credit to Cook Me Plox and Rwojy for help with the alphabetical items list.

~ Limits Explained ~

All buying limits are applied over a 4 hour period. You may buy and sell items simultaneously if you wish. Once again, there is no selling limit for any item.

It is helpful to illustrate the buying limits with an example. The limit on Iron Ore is 25,000.

Suppose I make the following purchases:

Buy 1 iron ore 00:00:00
Buy 10,000 iron ore 01:00:00
Buy 14,999 iron ore 03:00:00

I am now on limit because I bought 25,000 ores in 4 hours. However, I will be able to buy another 25,000 iron ores at 04:00:00 sharp because this is 4 hours after I bought the first ore.

To sum up, the limit starts ticking as soon as you purchase the first item, and your limit will be fully reset 4 hours after that.

There is no way to check in the game if you are limited for a particular item, except if you put a huge offer for it and the item won't buy. You'll have to keep track yourself of when your limits reset.

Generally speaking, these limits were imposed to prevent very wealthy players from mass-manipulating item prices. No matter how wealthy you are, you still have the same item limits on your account.

If you are on trial membership, your buying limits are significantly smaller. These will be increased to "normal" levels when the trial expires and you become a normal f2p player, or immediately if you purchase a subscription.

Thanks to Scope I for his help determining these GE mechanics.

Please note: Selling your items back over the GE does NOT reset your limits anymore. This was changed in a hidden update around April 2012. You must wait for the limit to expire before buying more over the GE.

~ Linked Limits Explained ~

Some items aren't limited by themselves, but rather share a common limit with other items of a similar "type." These items have a "linked" limit. Most of them are either available in sets, or were once available in sets. A while ago some sets, like 3rd age sets, were removed from the GE because their guide prices didn't follow the prices of their components very well, and people were using them to scam.

It is often convenient to buy these linked items in sets because the whole set only counts as 1 towards your limit, even though you technically get multiple items out of it.

For example, all the Guthan's item limits are linked. As a barrows item, that limit is 10. So I could buy 3 warspears, 4 platebodies, and 3 sets to use up my limit (3 + 4 + 3 = 10). Or I could buy 10 sets, or 10 helmets, etc. This Guthan's limit is separate from the Dharok, Ahrim, Karil, etc limits.

I will list some of the most commonly purchased items that have linked limits below. If an item is NOT listed here, assume that it has its own separate limit.

Commonly purchased linked items
--------------------------------

-For each armor category, bronze through dragon, the armor pieces in those armor sets are linked. Note that the bronze through adamant platebodies have a different limit, so you can keep buying some of these even after your limit for the other pieces in the set is used up.
-Different dosages of the same potion
-Each third age armor type
-All the other treasure trail armor sets (e.g. ancient, guthix, saradomin, zamorak, ...)
-Each barrows type (broken + unbroken are linked)
-The armor in each dragonhide category
-Gem-tipped bolts and enchanted bolts of the same type
-All godswords, godsword shards, and hilts*
-Red and grey chinchompas

*Note: The other GWD rewards are NOT linked (sara swords, zammy spears, armadyl/bandos/nex armor).
