I realised that there are no player owned ports shields!
i'm going to attempt to create fantastic idea's on how these shields should be.

first of all, I think most of us feel that the "set effect" of ports armour was underwhelming... I mean, many months to acquire the full set to get a set effect that has nothing to do with tanking? or even combat in general? O_o well, this shield will have an effect all by itself and it will relate to tanking! ^_^

the shields can be named something like: tetsu ShÓrudo (the melee shield)
death lotus ShÓrudo and seasinger ShÓrudo being the ranged/magic shield names.
just for clarification, in Japanese, tetsu means strong one and ShÓrudo means shield.

okay. these shields are going to be incredibly unique. they are going to require 85 defence but have the armour value of an 80 shield, while giving the life point bonus of a 90 shield! (just an idea which is similar to how the gwd2 weapons have t80 damage yet t90 accuracy).
the shield doesn't have to be this way though.

the regular versions will be smithable/tradable just like the other pieces.
the "superior" version will be smithable but not tradable and have an "effect"!
they will be made with the same materials as the armour is made with.

The "effect" (ideas)

The Superior ShÓrudo's could change the way the ability resonance works when equipped.

How resonance currently works:
The next attack you receive within 6 seconds will heal you instead of harm you.

Resonance with a Superior ShÓrudo equipped:
All attacks you receive within 6 seconds will heal you instead of harm you.
-or if overpowered, the next two attacks you receive within 6 seconds will heal you instead of harm you.

or:
a special attack - the next hit you take is 100% reflected back onto the attacker! (credit: Duke†Ryan)

or:
every time you block a hit, you heal 1% lifepoints and 1% prayer.

or:
increases all defence ability durations that have a self-buff/debuff on opponent, last an extra 1 second. This would result in a tiny bit more healing from ultimates and protection from damage negating abilities. It'll also be slightly offensive with reflect and revenge lasting an extra second.

The Superior ShÓrudo's stats:

armour: 384
lifepoint bonus: 735
prayer bonus: 3

(rough idea, open to change).


new idea - two handed offensive shields?! :O - initial idea by Deltaslug, page 6 + my own input.

instead of being like defenders (giving dual wield and shield abilities), they'd give two handed and shield abilities! like a shieldbow... only for melee and magic too! :D

they'd be offensive with spikes and deal the same ability damage as a main hand + defender.

Resonance normally has a 6 second duration and a 30 second cooldown. This cooldown can be reduced by using the preparation ability, which makes all attacks against you in the next 10 seconds reduce the cooldown of resonance by 3 seconds and has a 20 second cooldown of it's own.

I'm all for coming up with something for the ports gear so as to give it a set effect that is useful for tanking, but I don't think the solution is to make it so that resonance, a basic ability, function even better than immortality, an ultimate ability, does at its job. That seems more than a little overkill.

immortality reduces 25% incoming damage and saves you from death for 30 seconds, then heals you for like 4k hp when you are revived! I don't believe it is as strong as immortality at all!

with 85 defence and tank gear, most of the time you'll only get hit once or twice in 6 seconds anyway, making it minimally stronger in most cases. if some npc's/players get incredibly lucky with their RNG, then yes the guy wearing the shield is going to get some big heals!

comparing this small benefit to achto (which has a chance to reset ALL defensive abilities, effectively doubling the duration of everything and becoming near invincible, it ALSO makes it so your shield is half as effective as an off-hand)! I think it is a very strong effect, but it doesn't outclass achto. I guess jagex could balance it how they see fit of course, nerfing it to "the next two hits in 6 seconds" or so. in most cases, you wont get hit more than twice in 6 seconds anyway. O_o

it would take some beta testing to see if its OP.

Sorry, the ability I meant was barricade, not immortality. Dunno why I mixed those up.

But yeah, this would make Resonance completely outclass Barricade.
