Introduction

Hello, and welcome! Thanks for taking the time to check this out.

I recently made a discussion thread about Vyrewatch in which there was quite a lot of controversy over the various abilities of Vampyres, mostly regarding their foresight ability and their other abilities, including the relationship with eachother.

I'll be focusing on nearly every aspect of Vyres, especially weaknesses and how and with what they can be killed with. I'm also hoping to write a post on two on Vyrewatch abilities and society, and the like!

The Basics

So, the very basics?

The Vampyres, or the Vyres, are the inhabiants of Morytania after invading Hallowvale, homeland of the Icyenes, and turning the city of Meiyerditch into their blood farm, still (barely) standing today. A land of darkness and despair ... Beautiful, I know. While interesting and enticing, this thread focuses more on the Vyres rather than the kingdom.

So, to summarize Vyres in a nutshell;

-Food,
Herpa-derp, the Vyrewatch live off blood, collected like a tax, called Blood Tithes. These Blood Tithes are taken from human and werewolf blood, mainly from Meiyerditch. It's their water, basically.

-Combat-Abilities,
Developed Vyres obtain an ability called Foresight, which allows them to predict the physical pre-movement of all races except Icyenes and their own kin. This allows them to avoid attacks, and therefore, win a fight without taking a single hint. See further below for more info.

-Lifespan,
They don't have a known age limit. If they do, it's a long-ass time. From what we've seen, in RP lore, at least, there's still Vampyres around from Vampyrium. Drakan is too, of course, from Vampyrium, and probably a whole lot of other Vyrewatch, but Drakan might be at the stage where age is getting to him, but who knows! Don't think anyone's going to RP a Vyrewatch for a few IC ages.

-Worship,
While Vampyres can be heavily associated with both Zamorak and Zaros, their current society holds no worship to any god. If anything, they worship Lowerniel Drakan, who is effectively, the king of Morytania. He aided Zamorak in Zaros' downfall, and conquered and destroyed the Saradominist stronghold of Hallowvale.
Heil Saradomin.

The Basics

Homeland
The Vyrewatch are, by means of magic, forced to remain in the confines of Morytania, which is fine with them, but I guess they wouldn't mind taking other the world in given the chance.
The blessed Salve barrier, enchanted by the Seven Priestly Warriors and reinforced by Lucius Renderra, forms a wall-like barrier around Morytania, from Paterdomus onwards, preventing Vyres from passing it.

Another major problem that pops up in Morytania is .... complaints, particularly about how over-powered Vyrewatch are AND SHOULD BE.

If you're looking for a fair fight, don't come to Morytania. I also urge you to stay out unless you understand and accept exactly how OP Vyrewatch are.

Stages

Vampyres in Gielinor develop in three stages, a long process of evolution that takes centuries, if not millennium, to complete. As they progress through this evolution, the Vampyres obtain new powers and abilities with each phase. So, let's get to it.

Juveniles
Vampyre Juveniles are the lowest form of Vampyres, and the first phase encountered when turning. It is factually known that a ritual must be undertaken to become a Juvenile, the budding seeds of Vampyrism, and it's very widely believed that humans can easily be turned into Juveniles with this ritual.

Juveniles can be damaged with any weapon, yet they have the ability to mist, and nearly always do so when on the wrong end of a sword. The best way to kill a Juvenile is to throw a Guthix Balance Potion at it before it mists, and if it does mist, kill it before it lays eggs with holy water.

Juvinates
The second phase of Vampyrism, and can be considered the metaphorical teenage years of a Vampyre. Juveniles progress onto Juvinates after a number of decades/centuries, use your imagination, and become slightly stronger in this new form, and they become invulnerable to all forms of weapon, except enchanted silver.

So, using your magical enchanted silver sickle because normal weapons are too mainsteam and we have obliged to use the Myreque's symbol as a weapon even though a sword would be a gajillion times better, you can lay harm to a mere Juvinate, but again, they can mist, so down 'em with a Guthix Balance Potion.

Juvinates are often used to do dirty work for the Vyrewatch, such as patrols, tithe collections, and so on and so forth. It's a bundle of fun.

Stages

Vyres
The bad boyis. The winged, bony, bloodsucking fiends that travel the Morytania sky, laying waste to any lesser being as they see fit. They're generally feared throughout all of Morytania, by Juvinates, Juveniles and other races, as the Vyres are very cruel and racist by nature (see Vyre Personalities on Page 2).

They have very enhanced foresight, only Blisterwood or a Sil*thril Flail capable of piercing it, and are capable of flight, mist, and are also seen to be skilled long-ranged melee fighters and mages.

Still, they can mist, so holy water and Guthix Balances are vital in you're a fully-equipped Vyre Slayer (bear in mind that you need to kill a Vampyre to get Vampyre dust to get Guthix Balance in the first place).

Notes on Vyrelords and Vyreladies
Vyrelord and Vyrelady is NOT an evolution stage. It's a rank, just like a noble human lord or lady. It's a title of wealth, perhaps rewarded, and generally they seem to be stronger due to their age, but I must emphasise that it is NOT an evolution stage.

Abilities

Vyres contain a number of abilities that has helped them become the ultra-powerful society that they are today. They'll be listed off below, using relevant lore and posssssssssssibly some theories that are agreed on by the majority of the community. So, here goes;

Foresight
The most useful tool of the Vyres. It enables them to predict physical movement of the majority of races seconds before the move is actually preformed. This allows the Vyrewatch to easily avoid the move, and then proceed to attack their target.
Foresight, however, seemingly does not effect Icyenes, for obvious reasons, and nor does it effect fellow Vyres, from evidence gathered throughout quests, such as Vanescula's assassination on Ranis. (Ranis looked and spoke to Vanescula before he died, for those who scrutinize this theory.)

Misting
Mostly how the Vyres would retreat from sticky situations. Misting is exactly what it says on the tin - the Vyre turns into a plume of white mist, and simply floats away. Again, mostly used as a retreat technique, it can be used to stealthily travel short distances.
From what we've seen, the only way to break a Vyre's mist-form is through the use of Holy Water.

Transformation
From what we can tell and've seen, fully-fledged Vyres have three different forms;
-Human, (Vanstrom during In Search of the Myreque)
-Humanoid (Vanstrom during The Branches of Darkmeyer)
-Vyrewatch (The bony, bat-like flying form.)

Abilities

Magic
From what we can gather through gameplay, lore, and even the books, Vyrewatch appear to be quite talented mages, and almost have an inborn ability for the arcane art.
Not only do they use magic when attacked in Darkmeyer, but Vanstrom Klause during the Branches of Darkmeyer boss fight has an excessive amount of magical attacks, both of blood and shadow origin.
It's pretty much widely believed that the Vyrewatch can use shadow and blood magic for definite, and to very powerful extents. However, it's quite a vague area of lore, so, check out Theoretical Debates on the second page to take a look and share your thoughts on the matter.

Foresight - In Detail

Let's start with the big one.
As mentioned in the above posts, foresight is a Vyre's way of predicting an attack before it happens, and thus avoiding it easily. Can it be stopped? Indeedy it can. The first method that we're aware of was the creation of the Sil*thril Flail, which had nearly a whole Quest dedicated to it's creation (Legacy of Seergaze).

The reason a flail works against a Vyrewatch is because when you swing a flail, you have no control over the head, which hangs on a chain, and thus the Vyre can't predict your forthcoming attack, which is why it's one of the few weapons that can harm a Vyrewatch. We've seen it's creation is very complex, however, and therefore it's only natural that the weapon itself is pretty rare, nevermind the enchantments required to create this lovely little tool.

Blisterwood is the lovely fluffy substance that Mod Ana came and screwed our endeavours in the last four Myreque Quests to make a weapon that can harm the Vyres, and then trolol, here's a magic tree - .... Ahem.
Blisterwood is the most effective way of harming Vyrewatches. There's only one known Blisterwood tree, hidden away in the Aboretum in Meiyerditch. Blisterwood is effective because the wood still moves after it's cut - ... lovely, right? But basically, the wood writhes away, making it totally mind-boggling for a Vyre, and thus renders their foresight useless when faced with Blisterwood.

Foresight - Into Detail

There's another method or two that may be deemed acceptable when faced with a Vyre, but there are several that are not.

One of the only other viable methods is when a Vyre's in a bit of tight squeeze, and he's utterly overwhelmed by say, ten warriors all wielding Silverthril swords (God knows how). The Vyre will be able to predict the pattern of the swords, but if they all swing in quick synchronization - ... well, that'd be abusing your abilities (see Page II), which is bad form, sir. That's, for me, an acceptable method of wounding a Vyrewatch, but only if they're totally overwhelmed.

However ... there are a number of 'methods' out there that people try to use on Vyrewatch, and they really shouldn't work. For instance ....

Hey - I fired my crossbow at point-blank!

Ooh, original. But yes, while the Vyre appears to be in a position of certain death, it's my belief that they'll be able to predict you moving to fire the crossbow, or the crossbow being put into position in the first place, and thus, avoid it from there.

My character doesn't think when he attacks! #getrekt
While you may rely on 'instinct' ... you brain and mind always processes an attack, no matter how quickly. Your body simply can't do anything without getting a nervous message from your brain - which a Vyre can predict.

I have a special weapon that's unpredicta -
Woah. Hold up. Go to the naughty step, and think about what you've done.
