After two years in the Spanish section of the forums, I can't say that I see sense in this update or that I like where this is heading.
Sorry, but a lot of those who had their home, their friends and community there will not integrate in the English forums. Mainly because a considerable amount of them don't speak or understand English well. Integration isn't the word I'd use here.
If this means that, with time, you're not going to continue translating and supporting the language RuneScapes that already exist, I definitely do not like where this is heading... although I understand time, resources & money are important for a business.

jagex, you disappoint me..
i'm from spain and atleast 70% of my friend list is from south-america or spain. Only like 30% from them have enough knowledge to understand English without any problems. What about the other 40%? im sure almost all of them can give us very nice ideas about the game and help lot of people, but they don't know enough english to do so.
i'm very dissapoint with you jagex, probably another fail update.

It seems logical if you haven't been terribly involved with those communities.
It doesn't seem logical when you know what these communities mean for a lot of people. They enhance their gaming experience, they get (got) support and are more informed about scam prevention, news, updates, and such...
The barrier of English can be tough. I know because I started playing RuneScape with little knowledge of English. You don't need to know English to play RuneScape. But you do need to know English in order to get the best experience out of it.

I don't think I like this change tbh. IMO, all it seems to be doing is ripping apart the tight communities formed in the past few years in the separate language forums and is forcing them into a huge community that they may not necessarily want to be a part of.
Quote from the page 1:
"As part of this change we have made the decision to integrate some of the smaller regional communities into the English community so that they can enjoy all the benefits of being part of a bigger RuneScape community. "
The thing is, they already had the opportunity to do this. Some people post in both language forums as well as the main English forums. However, at the same time there are those who have decided that they do not wish to participate in the English forums for whatever reason (either they don't speak very fluent English, or that they just would rather be able to interact with a community that speaks the same language as their native tongue).
Example here: A few weeks ago while posting in the Account Help forums as always, a poster came in saying that they couldn't speak very good English at all (their post didn't make much sense to me, we'll leave it at that), and so I directed them, with a little help from Google Translator, to the Spanish forum. They made it over there OK and within minutes the player got the answer they needed and was able to resolve their situation.
If this were to happen and there were no language forums, what would have happened? Personally, all I can see happening is that this poor player who needed help would end up finding themselves hopeless as the thread would most likely be locked due to the "Only posts in English can be posted on the English forums" rule. Now, that isn't necessarily the best example but its one that is good enough as to why I personally think that removing these communities is only going to make things worse off rather than better off.
I'm out of room here so I'll stop rambling on here now. :P

Why is everyone saying how much they do not like this change when it hasn't even occurred yet? Wait until it happens and give it a chance.

How about this:
* Create an English-[language] Friendship forum for each community that is being removed. Any threads created in other forum sections in a non-English language can be moved to its appropriate friendship forum
* Search out Fmods from each community that can "manage" that community so-to-speak (I'm sure there already are these, aren't there?)
* Give these Fmods reign to request stickies in the forum based on recent updates, should they be willing to put their own time and energy into translating the most recent updates into the relevant language
I don't think that completely REMOVING these communities is the best way to go. It turns a ton of players against Jagex, as would happen when you literally destroy any community. At least give them a midway point for them to continue to associate with one another.
There should be a balance between [management and resources] versus [being community-minded to the highest degree]. It shouldn't be an overly tipped scale in one direction or the other.
Currently it seems the scale is tipped towards management/resources. Give us proof that it isn't.
I don't necessarily disagree with this as vehemently as the others, but I do think it is not the best way to approach the problem of resources thinned out (nor the lack of one large community...).
