Remove:
- RuneFest 2017
- Christmas Advent-ure 2017
- Gold Premier 2017
- Invention (it's such an old skill now)
- Clan Warring (not sure if this is even popular?)

Merge:
- "New Game Content - Suggestions" with "Future Game Updates"
- "Clan Home" and "Clan Central"
- "Minigames and D&Ds" and "PvP" (they have many activities which cross over each other)
- "Website and Forums" and "Runemetrics" (maybe also with NXT?)

I know this won't happen, but how about merging Treasure Hunter and Soloman's Store into it's own 'Microtransaction' forum...

- Agreed with 2017 forums as they are naturally outdated and have no further use.

- Invention is indeed old. But removing it brings up the issue of where players can go to seek help with in-game stuff. The 'RS guides and help' section should ideally be made more visible imo.

- Clan Warring... I obviously have a vested interest there. However, while warring had a great run from 2013 to 2016, it died off again during 2017 due to some inconvenient PvP updates and key members of the community becoming less active. It would be sad to see it go but I'll be the first to admit it's not being used at the moment. The only issue would be to find a good place to move over some of the threads with historical value... Perhaps the PvP section or Clan Central.

- New game content and future game updates serve to complete different purposes, so no support there. They do need to be named less ambiguously though, I remember being very confused by those when I first started posting.

- Clan Home and Clan Central could work. The only thing is that Clan Home is filled with pseudo-recruitment threads (basically information centers for clans) that get bumped up regularly and could end up submerging the clan questions that get brough up in Clan Central.

- Minigames & D&Ds and PvP. No. They are two different things. The only overlap is warbands really, and the only reason this will get support is because PvP is an element of the game that is shunned in RS3. I don't think it should lose the dignity of having its forum section merged into further irrelevance because of that.

- Runemetrics and NXT are there specifically to provide feedback to Jagex employees working on those areas. If they are no longer actively taking feedback from them I don't see why the sections should stay. However, it does beg the question of where else one can raise questions regarding these.

- Treasure Hunter and Solomon's. Agreed here, although I doubt the title you suggest is PR-friendly. If Jagex is to be taken literally, perhaps they'll merge Treasure Hunter into Minigames and D&Ds ;)

As you may have noticed, I'm not a fan of a forced reduction of sections. I think the structure they give to the RSOF is extremely useful. A badly executed reduction of sections could potentially end up killing off communities, as with the dungeoneering one, after their section was mixed into Teamwork, for example. The damage caused by that was much worse than the benefit gained from having one less section to scroll through.

In the end it comes down to two things imo:

1 - the purpose of a section needs to be clear
'Clan Central' and 'Clan Home' are confusing af, for example, because the titles provide no logical distinction. If you are confused about where to go to find a certain topic, the sections aren't doing their job.

2 - being able to find the section you are looking for easily and logically
This is where having a long list of sections becomes a problem. Since the section headings are always open (e.g. "Runescape - Community", "Events and Services";), players have to scroll and search too much to get an idea of all the sections there are before picking one to post in. Reducing the number of sections somewhat helps in this respect. However, I feel that properly managing section headings to direct players would be an even greater help (I have a suggestion thread regarding that: Forum Layout idea

So essentially, if it is decided that removing sections is absolutely necessary to solve problem 2, we have to be certain that we are not compromising problem 1.
