i must say, i am rather looking forward to artificially inflating my post count. i hope there shall follow many intellectual and gripping discussions. assuming that's the sort of thing this thing is for.Sailing
i occasionally entertain the thought of maybe going to runefest. but then again i'm not sure how i would react under the circumstances. on the one hand, i have (rather successfully) hidden the fact i play runescape for a very long time and never had a conversation with anyone about it. to surround myself with that amount of similar people... idk. i might fangirl.Sailing
1-isn't that linkify auto-pasting then pretty much a bot? botting the forums, there's a thought.
2-is a reverse-bot legal? That being, rather than a bot which produces more outputs than the input, a reverse-bot provides less outputs than the number of inputs so like instead of just clicking a tree you have to solve a sudoku and draw a llama before it actually clicks. hypothetical, but you get the point, i hope.
please expect more of these kinds of questions as it's kind of what i do and now this chat lounge provides a vessel into which i can pour these musings without fear of being admitted to an asylumSailing
If anyone is at a loose end for an essay/ dissertation topic, consider doing one on the advantages/ disadvantages of slicing pizza to folding pizza (what I call the "pizza taco" ). I've been a lifelong pizza slicer, but in a recent yolo state of mind I tried the pizza taco technique, and I have to say it was a very different experience. I look forward to any more research in this field of science.Sailing

People complain that pking wasn't profitable, because most of the opponents items are untradeable and so they don't get anything for them. But the reason people use untradeables is because they'll lose less if they die. So really, pkers are the reason pking is unprofitable. They want to get a good reward if they get a kill, but don't want to lose much if they die.
Once, on other runescape, I decided to kill the kalphite queen. Sumona gave it as a challenge and I was feeling frivolous. Off I toddled to the GE, buying super restores and saradomin brews and rocktails. Overkill, perhaps, but I was like level 100 and I had never PvMed before.
So I got to the Kalphite Queen, and set about her. I managed to kill the first form and get about a third of the way through the second stage, and then my supplies ran out. So I hopped out and got some more. I finally killed her, at my expense of what must have been like 200k+, and as a drop, if I recall correctly, received some mithril arrows.
The moral of the story: because I had neither the gear nor stats to take large, quick hits, I had to spend a lot more on supplies and thus it can be concluded that I simply wasn't high enough level for that to be an efficient way to make money. Had I been higher level, I could have got the kill using a lot less supplies, in which case it may well have been.Sailing
Actually, I will also add another moral to that story (two morals! you look like ants from up here): just because I have stacked all the odds against my favour, does not oblige Jagex to make said method more profitable to suit me.Sailing

iunno if there is such thing as a perfect chess AI... i mean there's really good ones but i'm not sure if they're such that they can analyse every single possible outcome for every possible move and weight every such move with projected outcomes and make perfectly the decisions to achieve maximum result
hence the hypothetical
i shall see if i can get windows to go against itself, even if not perfect, and will report back on findingsSailing

I held on to them until after the blowpipe was released because I knew they'd go up in price, and then after seeing how powerful it was, thought to give it a couple more days as people jumped on the bandwagon and were desperate to get pking with it quickly.
So yeah, I would say that knowing roughly how the market would play out worked greatly to my advantage here, considering they were like 400gp each a couple months ago.
I didn't, however, know that the day after I dumped them it'd be nerfed and they'd fall by like 25%...
As it happens though, knowing supply and demand is one of the few aspects of trading knowledge being an advantage that the GE preserves, so it'd have been good for me either way.Sailing

To be honest, just thinking about it, I don't see it passing.
42.5k is already, I think, the most voters ever in a poll - by some margin, too. Where are new voters going to be found? Who wouldn't have heard of the poll already?
Add to that, there has to be nearly 1500 people voting yes, with nobody voting no, it seems unlikely.
It's been fluctuating between 1450 and 1550 to pass since I got up. It's down a bit from last night, I think it was about 1.7k then.
But voting isn't carrying on at a linear rate. There were about 34k votes 12 hours after the poll release, and 12 hours on there's 42.5k. As time progresses it becomes harder and harder to find those players that haven't already voted.
So really... I'm not seeing it happening at this rate.Sailing
GE's kind of a big deal, though. I'd think if someone's going to know about the poll, they'll already know about it... hence it's already got like 30% more voters than any other poll i've seen. Streamers were going on about it all yesterday. I think we've seen the effect of that - 42.5k total votes - so I don't know where they're going to be able to find new voters.Sailing
yeah I get it's quite a lot, but wouldn't a flipper want the buy price to be as low as possible, and the sell as high as possible, with those kinda cancelling out? Of course, unless their intention is to buy it now for relatively high to then sell at a later, higher price. I can see how that'd cause a price rise. Like with shield left halves... that was a fun 8 minutes.
Seems to be getting a bit rocky right now in any case for mid level stuff. Not been the best of days for me todaySailing
Does anyone know where to find an image of the runescape world map, with the map squares overlayed? I remember seeing it before, but I think it was on Reach's twitter when giving information on the scale of Zeah, so obviously I can't get it there any more.
Anyways, if anyone does have, if you could direct me to where to find it or send it to me on twitter (@somecallmesan) I'd be very much appreciative.Sailing
Are the servers having issues at the moment? Past couple of days I've been splashing as usual but when I check back it's usually logged out after only a few hundred casts. And since I'm not viewing the client when it does log out I can't tell if it's due to a disconnect or whatnot.Sailing
They're starting to act up again a bit on my end. Disconnecting about every 15 minutes or so, but relatively quick to get back going again.
Honestly, yesterday was bad to the point where I would log in and disconnect before I had even got past the "click here to play" page. First time I can remember having to just plain give up and stop. Tried for about an hour and I couldn't even stay in long enough to even attack a chicken, let alone splash for any length of time.Sailing
Nornesaid: Sansaid: I managed to get a full 6 hour's overnight splashing last night, for I believe the first time in a week.
BOOOOO. The one small benefit to these otherwise horrible attacks was that 6h'ing became a thing of impossibility.
Remember when you used to save up those little cardboard cutouts that you got on the side of breakfast cereal boxes and then sent them away for a bowl* or something? Well, I've been saving up my 6 hour overnight cutouts and hopefully by next weekend I redeem them for 99 magic.
*I still have my bowl that I got from saving up coco-pops cutouts about 10 years ago. I call him Jeffrey. Sailing

Wilsonsaid: Lol idk what e3 is, bet y'all think I'm stupid.
Imagine, if you will:
Casually browsing the local farmer's market, like the discerning middle class fellow you are, you happen upon a stand you've not seen before.
"New Restaurant Opening In Town: Free Samples Here" the sign reads.
Intrigued, you take one of the free samples.
As it enters your mouth, a taste explosion occurs on your tongue, gently massaging the palate, oozing out flavours and textures the likes of which you've never experienced before. The beautiful aroma fills your nostrils, and after several exceptionally satisfying bites, you swallow, marveling at the marvelous marvel to which you have just been privy.
"Wow!" you think. "This place sounds, smells and tastes amazing. I can't wait for the restaurant to open. If that sample is anything to go by, it may well be the best restaurant ever".
A few weeks, and in the local newspaper you read an advert that the restaurant will be opening mid august. "Taking reservations now!" it says. Excitedly, you ring up to book a place.
Once through, a man tells you that you have to pay for the meal before you even get there. "Well, it was so good, I might as well pay the £50. I'm sure it will be great in any case".
Mid August arrives, and you set off to the grand opening of this amazing establishment.
Once there, you are shown to a table.
"But where is the seat?" you ask bemusedly.
"The seat will be £10 extra" say the man. But you feel a meal wouldn't be much fun if you had to stand for all of it, so you pay the £10, get a seat, and place your order.
After 30 minutes, your meal arrives.
It's a dog turd on a plate.
"But the sample was so brilliant, how can this meal that I prepaid for, and even bought the extra content for, be so terrible?", you wonder.Sailing

But alas, this is how it must be. After the meal, you ask where the bathroom is. Upon being told it's £20 extra, you storm out, appalled at such an abhorrent establishment.
Thinking upon how awful a dining experience was, you vow never to be lured in by the promise of the free sample, never to prepay for a meal, and never to support a restaurant that charges you a tenner for a chair.
Until the next farmer's market, when you do it all again.Sailing

Fawxsaid: Sansaid: Off topic but I could do with a quick answer; is it alright to share dropbox links on the osrs reddit?
Think you can share anything on Reddit, or am I wrong?
I'm a complete reddit newb, I was under the impression that it was made up of lots of little subreddit communities that each made their own rules and posting guidelines. Hence, just wanted to make sure it was ok for the osrs one.Sailing

Nornesaid: No, just count on not having anything else TO discuss. Even if you bumped a thread in the last few days, it if aint sailing it aint staying. Everyone has to have there OWN thread to discuss the SAME thing, meaning we have HUNDREDS of threads about the SAME damn topic. Since page one does not support hundreds of threads, we have one topic. Pfft, it's a big topic and probably one of the biggest topics to date. There are still a few non sailing threads floating around anyways.
Nornesaid: Wouldnt it be nice if there was more to the first page then just one topic? If people would freaking use the thread the other guy posted with the exact same wording for the exact same reason to discuss the exact same thing? I don't really care. Have you not seen how colossally dead even OSRS general has been the past few weeks? I bumped a thread at 10pm the other day and by the next day when I got up at 3pm it was still on the front page. Like, not even last result; it was about 4 spots off bottom. I'm glad to see the forums active.
Nornesaid: Also, on a similiar note, this type of activity could REVIVE the feedback forum, pump it full of life and activity that it needs so absolutely desperately. But no, that be wrong. AN active feedback would blow the world up wouldn't it? Pfft, you should know as well as anyone that moving threads to feedback did hee haw to reviving that forum. Why do you think everyone called it the graveyard?Sailing
Ottersaid: Sansaid: This has been a thoroughly entertaining evening of nobody being able to log in to the forums but still checking back every few minutes
Rs3 can log into the forums from the game even when the site is down!! . Clearly the superior game. It's a testament to the popularity of the forums among RS3ers then, with a whole 10 players on the forums when I checked last night o_oSailing
