How much longer do i have to wait to play RS with my beloved late 07/08 graphics? It was the time i joined. We all know it's going to happen, Even the fervent elitists who want to stay on 07 graphics and are opposed to the simple concept of making HD graphics toggleable, So they can stay on their 07 graphics, and we can stay on 08 graphics. It all boils down to this...When will it happen? I know jagex pales in comparison to their former selves, So how long will it take? a year? two years? three years?
When all of the nostalgia hipsters moved to OSRS, they wanted their pristine old version. Then after a week, they all got bored because they've been there, done that. So they needed updates. Constant updates. Now you need better graphics? Next year will you need RS3 graphics?
They know there are people who want this, but it would first need to pass a poll which is unlikely. And even then it may take up to a year to implement without any other content updates. The OSRS dev team is a lot smaller compared to what they had in 2008.
Mod Westsaid: Not sure if anyone has ever gone into the exact details as to why this isn't viable, regardless, I'll give it a shot
Although the HD update was released a year or so after the version that is OSRS, it took an incredibly large team (that was out sourced) to convert and test every model in the game. A toggle wouldn't be possible either unfortunately, this is because to get extra detail into the new models all other models had to be scaled up to match. If a toggle was possible, it would increase the amount of work us artists would have to do as we'd have to make two versions of every model.
A toggle wouldn't be enough to convince some players who do not want it as it would certainly stop actual content updates for a while. The polling system isn't just about what players want in game, but where they want us to focus our efforts and an incredibly large update with no new content isn't something I see going down too well.
Of course, I've no idea what the future holds, just hoping to shed a bit more light on the topic "The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people" -Martin Luther King Jr.
Then you artists had better get your act together and make it work, Because it's either i play your dead rs3 for slightly similar graphics to the time i joined, Or i play with outdated graphics that aren't going to appeal to any future players. It's irrelevant though, I'll see my 08 graphics eventually. I know it.

If you don't like the graphics that are one of the biggest parts that makes old school what it is, then maybe it's just not for you. It obviously is appealing to future players, since it's growing in size. It's not just veteran players that play OSRS, it's also a lot of new players.
OSHD is never happening. If you care to know why, read the other 105 threads made on the topic, that have all been shut down. Too big of a job, would cost too much money to do an update that would NEVER get 75% support, especially without a toggle. And since a toggle has been confirmed to be impossible, it's not worth even discussing this dead horse anymore. OSHD will never happen. If you don't like that, I guess that sucks for you. I hope you enjoy rs3, or find a game you do enjoy. OSRS is obviously not your game if you only care about graphics.
P.S. the 2008 graphics, or the "HD" graphics, to me, and many other people, were the absolute worse graphics since the current ones. I hated them since release, until the day they were changed again. They looked absolutely stupid. Just because YOU liked them, does not mean everyone else did. It also does not mean that new players would prefer them.
I'd rather have actual updates than wait 2 years without new content just to get graphics I never wanted.A camel is an even-toed ungulate within the genus
