@Kastor: I understand this thought, and I think there probably are some races in the Runescape multiverse that share a common ancestor - it's speculated by at least 3 characters ingame, and the human diaspora is a major lore point. But I also think humanoids, for whatever reason, just tend to occur.

Mah, having never left Freneskae, with no outside knowledge, gave most of her creations a humanoid visage. Human-like creatures are all across the multiverse. And even Infernus, likely the first plane to bear intelligent life, prima facie, gave rise to its own humans (demons like Mazc*na and Ac*tryn).

There are common ancestors, but there's also probably a heck of a lot of phenotypical convergence. And from where I'm sitting, it looks as likely it could be one or the other for elves.

@Hguoh: That's a really cool theory! Since 1oak's retcon of the origins of Daemonheim dungeons (which, for the record, I think was a good thing), the original theories about the rift have become less relevant, as they'd have to have some appeal to the Kin. This makes a lot of sense, and nicely ties a few different threads together.

I obviously cannot refute anything you say as we lack enough proof for either way, though I am still inclined to disagree with any major amounts of convergent evolution, so I mean I guess we have to leave it at that :).

Though just on the topic of mazacna and ac*tyn, I once asked Mod Jack if there was a race of humanoid demons and if mazacna was a part of it. He just said that Mazacna is a lesser demon and there was no such race. Remember that some demons have been shown to be able to shape shift, ei Neizchiken, the god cape demon, Thammaron etc. which easily explains why those two look humanoid even though there is apparently no actual humanoid demon race.

This was like 2 years ago, and a lot could have changed since then though

Then we might just as well discuss how unusual it seems that a great big deal of the Kharidians are of light skin, given their historically sunny desert-dwelling lifestyle.

Perhaps you would be able to see these issues from a whole different perspective if you weren't knee-deep in your Eurocentric take on fantasy.

But please, do carry on with your grown-up attitude and gender-targeted mockery.

I do enjoy people like you.

Actually, going by the Treasure Trails coordinate map, Gielinor's equator crosses just north of the Poison Wastes. It also lines up northern Karamja, which is a tropical area. If we take scale theory into account, we can reasonably assume that that area is significantly warmer than the northernmost parts of Isafdar.

But if the scale theory is to believed, we'll have to make a lot of assumptions about omitted geography. For example, Lumbridge and Draynor should actually be hot, muggy places. And going by that logic, southern Isafdar would be much the same.

But that's making a lot of assumptions. The most likely explanation is just aesthetics.

Why is this such a big deal to some of you? In fact, the mere fact that it does bother you makes you racist. It's a fantasy game. There's elves, centaurs, goblins, ogres, bird people, talking animals, zombies, demons (this list could go on for ages) and you're complaining that black elves don't "make sense"? Why shouldn't there be black elves? (Actually, don't respond to that because there isn't a single answer that wouldn't make you sound like an offended "not-to-be-racist-BUT-[insert racist comment]"-kind of person.)

Saying that it isn't realistic isn't a valid argument because elves living in a city of magical crystals isn't realistic in the first place and that's that. What difference does it make? None. Oh wait, yes, it does. It adds representation and a touch of common sense to the game. Elves may not be human but they're humanoids and your whitewashing fantasies shouldn't, and do not, belong here.

Wouldn't be surprised if next you're going to complain that it doesn't make sense to have female werewolves since the name is an Old English compound of the words were (human male) and wulf (wolf).

WOW...Calm the hell down. In Runescape, biology is shown to be fact. And although I'm not bothered personally by Black Elves, it is a valid question. Just because you don't agree with the question, does not mean that you need to get all triggered and give a whole rant to the guy who just was curious. It probably doesn't bother him/her (i don't know!) and they were just curious, and as biology applies to RS, even though it IS a fantasy game, he was wondering why they were there. Calm down.

Why the **** did you revive this dead thread? Just to whine about SJWs? You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

Chill yer lady-mounds, It.

A couple of things here:

The OP appears to understand that there exists an underlying magical law to the RuneScape universe. Yeah, elves and fairies. Woo.

But that does not discard any biological rationale for the particular formations of life on Gielinor and the rest of the multiverse.

That said, it does seem unusual that only a handful of elves are significantly darker-toned than their kin. The OP simply feels that the evolutionary advantage is not readily apparent, given their historically murky wood-dwelling lifestyle.

You would be able to glean that much from the conversation if you didn't have so much damn tofu all up in your eyes.

A treasure for the ages.

It would seem that SJWs love whining about each other. Hence why the W stands for Warrior; when a bunch of them get together, you know war's gonna happen.
