I always thought it was kind of weird how all the islands line up into a neat little line. Maybe that's a bit of scale theory, too? Patrolling Lore FC almost makes you wish for a Great Revision.

Because they're formed by underwater volcanoes and tectonic movement. They're in a straight line because that's the direction they're moving.

As far as I'm aware there are no accounts of the Eastern Islands participating in the God Wars so we can only assume they aren't of a size that garners geopolitical importance.

That settles the maximum size. What about the minimum?
Just posting around.

English's not my first language, but I hope I make sense.

The islands are not what was intended to be the Eastern Lands. The Eastern Land is a land mass beyond The Shield which the land mass is the size of the current gaming world. You can see the Khadarn Desert in the Island Map, you size is way too small, the islands are far smaller than they appear in the game.

The Eastern Lands do not worship gods and find it stupid to do so. Not only that, but it has been confirmed in the Port Storylines that the Gods were never able to step foot on the Eastern Lands because the shear amount of Anima Mundi which acted like the Edicts of Guthix which prevented them from doing so and the Anima Mundi is still strong and the gods still cannot step foot on the Eastern Lands.

And while we are in the mood of talking about scale, Archeron is as big as Greenland.
Come the Sixth-Age, the world will need the World Guardian.

I though to share some math on the subject:

We know that Gielinor is round, and I think it's safe to assume the coordinate system is similar to Earth. The mainland takes space of 10° west to 40° east and 20° south to 30° north, so total of 50° in latitude and longitude. This is only around 4 % of Gielinor's surface area, so there is a lot of space for other content (such as the Eastern lands).

The width of the map in OP is around 4.8 mainland widths, so mainland + Wushanko isles takes 240° of space in longitude. So, the last section of the Wushanko Isles, the Shield, would be closer to the western side of the mainland, assuming that this scaling is correct. There would still be more space for other content there, but "the Western lands" would be a better term for them.

So, in theory, the Wushanko isles could be that big, but I doubt it really is. I think that the map provided by The Matheri is closer to truth.

Do you have evidence that this is still the case? I'm aware that Wushanko could be only one part of the Eastern Lands, but there isn't any recent confirmation of a continent. The Wushanko region alone is huge, so Jagex could well decide that it is the major part of the Eastern lands. Right now we only have 1/16 of the full Wushanko in game (half of the first island set). I don't think we need more "Eastern" areas after that is finished.

Also, if there is more to the Eastern lands, it doesn't need to be on the east side of Wushanko - there is a lot of space to north and south of the Wushanko isles too.

I too must ask for evidence, IceyIce. But as I recall, Voya, they originally said (I think it was Mod Moltare in a player-owned ports-related game update FAQ) that the Wushanko Isles were the entirety of the Eastern Lands. If they've said otherwise, it would be more recent. And if they *haven't* said anything of the sort recently...

Some recent-ish confirmation that at the moment the Eastern Lands is just an island chain (didn't fit into my previous post):
Original message details are unavailable.
VIP Q&A, 3.10.2014:

Is there an Eastern continent or is it just an island chain in the middle of the ocean?

Mod Osborne: At the moment it is an island chain. Things may change that, but my thought is that it is an archipelago.
