Why more melee content? They've received 6 weapons within the last year and a half not counting weapon buffs.

It's middle tier melee gear...hardly considered a melee "buff"

There has also been plenty of other gear released, take rangers for example.
1. Twisted bow
2. Dragon hunter xbow
3. Heavy ballista
4. Light ballista


A upgrade to what's already the best cape in the game is hardly "middle tier".

The range gear released doesn't compare to the number of updates melee has gotten, and apparently continue to get.

Here's some update comparisons:

Melee

Abyssal bludgeon=BIS crush dps, BIS str xp
Abyssal dagger= next to best str xp
D claws=BIS PvP spec weapon other than g maul
D warham=BIS PvM spec
Arclight=BIS vs demons
Elder maul=BIS flinching weapon, PvP alternative to gs smack combos

I've excluded dragon sword due to limited usefullness.

Range

Blowpipe=BIS general PvM dps
Ballista=BIS range pvp wep
dragon throw axe= PvP range combo wep
Dragon cbow=BIS vs dragons
Twisted bow=BIS PvM bow

Mage

Trident=BIS mage PvM dps, only weapon that can't be used in PvP
Kodai wand=SoTD v2 that can autocast ancients
Kodai=equivalent to what melee/range already has

I've excluded things like eternals, anguish, etc as melee has them too. Keep in mind that I'm also excluding things like sara tear, tentacle, and crystal hally. Know what those have in common? Yeah, they're melee.

Mage and range have also gotten a lot of armor and off-hand bonuses as compared to melee armor. I don't think this is a bad thing, I just don't think mage and range have been neglected as many in the community feel. I think the developers have done a great job introducing end game gear (and content as a whole) for all styles of combat.

Or have they simply gotten what melee has?

Wards? Melee has had defenders for years.

What armor? The only armor addition is Ancestral, which is the equivalent to what melee and range has had for years. Eternal boots, tormented bracelet, anquish? Yeah..melee got the equivalents of them too.

You're right about range, but mage? Not so much. Our variety is still crap, especially in PvP. We've been limited to SotD going on three years now. Melee and range gets things like claws and ballista while we get a wand with stats copypasted from SotD.

Precisely. This would have been a perfect opportunity for a Tzhaar spell or something, but apparently 6 (!!!!!!) weapons within a year and a half isn't good enough for melee so now they apparently need more str, more mage def and more attack bonuses.

Oh and the armor? Mod Kieren specifically mentioned that it's meant for PvP variety. And I quote:

"Its primary aim is to be useful in PvP and offer up some more variety."


Just as d claws were specifically put into the game for 60 atk pures, this is being proposed for obby tanks. How many more updates will melee get in the name of "pvp variety" before mage gets a single one?

You have to remember that mage has a whole arsenal of spells (and spell books) that melee and range don't have. (
How many of those are actually useful? And how many are useful for mage only?
So what you may lack in different staffs, you make up for in the variety of offensive spells you get.(
I wish. Unfortunately only Z flames is viable and even with the aid of melee or range, we still only have shadow, blood or ice barrages that are viable. (And mostly ice since opponents get annoyed and leave if shadow/blood is used too frequently.) PvM isn't much better, especially given mage's limited uses there-Trident, ice burst/barrage and firewave or Z flames...the later two which are only useful to those who haven't yet maxed their mage skill.
