Sorry about the unusually late update, by the way. There was a last-minute change to the new login screen feature for remembering your username, to make it save more reliably.

remember bank pin during whops would have been nice...

There's an option on the PIN settings menu for making it stay unlocked for a few minutes if you appear to be logging back in from the same computer & address. Which covers most world-hops.

But its alright its Marketing the game on twitch etc I can only hope it works out and brings a lot of new players to RS.

It's hard to say for sure what promoted a new player to join, but membership really does seem to go up after these big streaming events, so we do intend to keep doing them. It's marketing - just a bit more interesting than sticking adverts on the side of buses, and probably more effective too. (And I personally like this approach considerably more than I liked the notion around 2009 of paying for RS posters to be put in schools to market directly to the children.) It's certainly true that a lot of these events cater to what one might call "celebrity" players, though that's kinda what pulls viewers. We've run different kinds of event to cater to a more inclusive group of players, of course, and the Deadman seasons are very open indeed.

As you've posted your rant twice already, I'm not troubling to quote more of it. See my reply to the other player at the top of page 2, by the way.

I get that you're upset to see our marketing budget going on things you're not interested in, and the money going to people you don't respect. However, I'm afraid we really do feel the need to market the game, and this has been found to be an effective way of doing it.

It takes relatively little dev time, and - as you pointed out in your earlier post - you still get game updates while it's going on.

And btw Ash wolf couldnt even log into a test account last night loads of confidence i got in him working for jagex 2 weeks in a row hes failed what next week

He didn't know that Roq's test accounts use different passwords to what QA normally uses. Yup, you're entitled to consider this a massive failure in his testing capabilities if you like, but it's not something that's worrying me.

Incidentally, what you saw the previous week was Mod Wolf finding a bug before launch, and getting it fixed. That's the point of testing. So it's a bit harsh for you to complain about him for finding it.

Yeah, livestreaming hasn't been so big over there so far. We're working on that.

Can we have an update on Grotesque?

I reckon that's a few weeks away. The GFX aren't even done yet, and it needs coding.
I regret that it got pitched as "aiming for release late August", but preparations for RuneFest turned out to be more extensive than expected, so we had to change our plans.

Weeks ago now we successfully voted through an update to allow for individual recoloring of Brimhaven Graceful outfit pieces.
When will this realistically be added?
Why has it not been added yet?

The features from those polls are getting done, a bit at a time. That one's not been done yet, but will be. It's not exactly a tiny tweak to the menu or code.

lets see, you have pvp tourney worlds, dmm worlds (reduced because of dead content, dmm tourneys, even FREE PLAYER TOTAL worlds... but yet u have forgotten to add a ironman world, using common sense(I know that's hard for u guys at times)...

Given the pretty negative response we got last time we opened the topic of specific worlds for those players, we actually chose to drop the matter. But okay, you've assumed we just forgot, and I appreciate you're really angry about it.

Buckeyeman69 said:
you HAVE forgotten the regular playerbase and are only hyping up the updates for your fanboi's and famous streamers

When you get no updates, you can complain about being forgotten. That's clearly not the case; you're blatantly in a game update newspost thread.
As for where we choose to hype up one bit of news rather than another, I'm not sure how you'd be better served by us "hyping" the login screen's new features, or by us trying to keep our marketing initiatives secret from you, but I'd suggest ignoring all the stuff that doesn't interest you. We're not offering to stop doing it, but you still get updates while it's going on.

Hello, I just tried the new spec with ornament kit on Ags and it looks identical to the regular one is it really updated correctly?:)

If not, we'll have another go next time. Personally I find it hard to focus on the colour when the thing's moving so fast.

Re: godsword ornament kits, can your artists rework them wholly at some point? As it stands now, they only change the colour of hilts, which is frankly a little bit boring.
Could they rework whole blades...

I'm sure they could, though reshaping iconic items can go down remarkably badly, even if it gets through a poll we end up with the (small but vocal) minority more upset than anyone was before the change took place.

Darn.
For future reference, you can report bugs in the game itself by right-clicking the 'Report' button and using that form; it gets your message straight to the testers.

:/ rememebr username update is cool I guess? Feel like you guys just chucked it in there to make it seem this week's update wassnt an entire waste

The game engine team has very many calls on their time, especially while Mobile's in development, since that's massive. When we get a QoL job out of them despite all the other pressure they're under, we launch it!

I suppose we could have held it back from launch for a few weeks to avoid giving the impression that... um... it was just done to make an update bigger, if that's really a sincere concern for people, but that doesn't sound helpful.

Im a businessman ok for last 30yrs please dont tell me about marketing ok.
There are 250million rs accounts so why are you targeting the same streamers and fanbois and giving then thousands of dollars that's not marketing that's favoritism.
Also ASH don't patronize me im not a fanboi or crown kisser i speak for thousands thinking the same thing just you don't see it your blind ok
These fanboi updates need to be regulated or stopped and give us some decent updates for us normal players cos eventually 07 will die apart from your streamers ok.
LETS HOPE YOU GET FOSSIL ISLAND RIGHT or im sure we will have another falador riot
Maybe your fanbois can stream it ASH

MASTRSHAFTER

Okay, I respect your credentials as a businessman.
The data shows that these events seem to be getting us more customers, within a budget that our managers are happy to spend on the activity.
We intend to keep doing them.
Call it celebrity endorsement, if you will, but that is indeed marketing, even if it's not what you've been doing in your 30 years as a businessman.
Don't worry, I'd never think of you as a "fanboi", and I have no intention of patronising someone who's assured me they're "a businessman ok for last 30yrs" :)

As for wanting a real update, we just did. See the rest of the newspost.

so ash, to respond to ur comment to me, so you/the staff decided to drop the all ironman world (remember there are 3 game modes of the in case u have forgotten) without even giving the players to actually decide in a poll/vote?

Y'know, players ask for a lot of things every day. Not every one of them can get to a poll, and even if they did we wouldn't be able to deliver everything. As that particular one seemed contentious, and other requests seemed less so, we chose accordingly. Also Iron Man helper updates don't seem to have a great track record of passing, so far.

ASH id like a proper sensible meeting with you as through all this i actually respect you but the way osrs is going is awful
These fanboi updates like wildy wars is just really bad marketing its only for a few kids to watch.

I'm afraid our meeting is not something that seems likely to convince us to stop doing something that's been so effective, especially if you're claiming that only "a few kids" watch the events, since that's blatantly inaccurate.

Thank you for your response! It means alot.
I fully understand there are issues making the update more complicated than i had thought, I appreciate you taking a moment to explain!!
Thanks again, Have a great day man!

You too :) Dev work in the team just now is quite constrained because we've got Maz & Kieren on Fossil Island, me on Make-All and Jed on Mobile, leaving relatively few staff to knock out the poll features.
There's a couple of polled things that are actually stalled by engine work, but the Brimhaven recolour job isn't one of them.

About Marketing after launching runescape on mobile why don't you add RuneScape in the steamstore? This could reach new players aswell?

Our analysts looked into that, but I gather they felt that the increased reach wasn't worth the share of the revenue we'd pay in fees.

Very excited to see Fossil Island! When will we see more dev blogs? In particular, for the farming/agility activity, as well as the underwater activities?

Rather than writing about it again, I think the plan is to show most of the island on a special livestream next Wednesday (30th) in the afternoon, before the usual Q&A.

I too would like Ironman worlds but that will never pass because the wilderness would essentially become a safe zone. (As amazing as that sounds, personally!)
I would like to ask, when are the chase cat options and the iban recharge options being released?

Thanks :) And yes, that would indeed be quite a substantial benefit.
I'm not sure we've got particular dates in mind for those features, but they'll turn up along with the other promised features in the coming weeks.

Very good update, but I'm curious where the game stores the usernames. Could be a security risk. Hide feature is great though.

Not sure, though I'd have thought anything that could read your computer's cache to find them would also have been capable of spying on you as you typed them in.

Hello! Great update, but where can i check lizardman shaman kill count?

Ask the soldiers in the area. They start reporting on that number once you've got at least one kill - sadly they couldn't track from before the update.
