cannot wait, 30 mins..
edit: my bad. nothing much coming at this point ..

Oh the emotional highs and lows of a long newspost :)
But yeah, with Maz and Kieren finishing Fossil Island, and me on Make-All, and Jed helping with Mobile, it does leave us a bit short of staff to knock out bigger updates week by week. Fortunately you've got something much bigger coming next week, if that's what you need.

More streamer favourtism how about you put some of the community into the house oh wait they dont stream

I'm not sure why would we want to put you up in a fancy house in London to play computer games all week if you weren't offering to livestream so that we could use it to advertise the game and hopefully grow the community.

...im basically putting at the fact streamer only bonus top generals get most money shouldnt it be split between all winners on teams

If someone weren't willing to participate in the competition under the terms that were advertised, they were under no obligation to spend an afternoon helping the general. And perhaps the generals would have the choice to share it out themselves. Plus there was additional prize money for other actions other than being the winning general, if you checked the newsposts.

myself wouldnt want to go back to london lived 12 years there place id like not to visit again and im british citizen.

Okay, I get that you don't like London, for whatever reason, but it's where RuneFest is, so it's rather useful for us to have these people nearby so that we can broadcast them from RuneFest too.

new rig set ups for the streamers, you want more subscriptions why dont you do a giveaway on what the community can enter etc im on about equality not linear group who always get it.

Giving out free stuff to the existing players may not be the most effective way to get more of them, whereas we've found that lots of Twitch activity genuinely is linked to an increase in membership, and the celebrity streamers are a cost-effective way of generating it. If you can have that kind of beneficial effect yourself, we'd be delighted to work with you in a similar way.

I get the streaming content is good, but that is literally all we have had for a month...

It's "literally" not. Read the rest of the newsposts.

... delayed updates saying just how busy you are, when really all we have had for at least over a month is a new cape and a button that remembers a ****ing username.

Some players want a constant flow of medium things, others want the occasional big thing. Fossil Island didn't vote itself through the polls; players know that when they vote for big things, there'll be less dev time available for the smaller stuff while the work's in progress.

If you'd rather we never did big projects at all, and just stuck to bigger batches of QoL week after week, that's absolutely fine - and considerably less stressful for us! - but not everyone seems to feel that way.

I get that it's frustrating for you to see live events featuring famous players. I'm afraid these events actually get attention for the game, and bring in new players. You're welcome to ignore the events, and not watch them, of course. The prize cash might be a source of envy too; just consider that it's a fraction of an advertising budget - and I gather Jagex's advertising budget is pretty small compared to what other games throw at marketing.

I see another week of streaming rubbish, well as i told you players are getting fed up with it.

Yup, and I explained why we need to do it, and expressed the hope that players would understand, and realise that it's not harming them. I appreciate you still don't like seeing it happen, though. That's a shame.

Oh, and since there's quite a bit of actual game content in here, and even more coming next week, I don't think you're being neglected.

MastrShafter said:
... you'll be losing the loyal players like me (if you check Ive not logged into osrs since the bullshit you gave me last week and i wont Ive stopped played osrs and i don't actually miss your cronyism ash)

I'm afraid demanding that we stop advertising the game in effective ways is a bit too much of an ask. Goodbye; I wish you well for your future gaming endeavours.

MastrShafter said:
Who said these streamers were famous lol

Google, Twitch, streaming data... I get that you don't like them, though.

As for your marketing budget the 200k or so you've spent on dm or these streamers all you need to do was advertise about rs mobile coming soon on tv or radio way more massive audience would see it than a few thousand watching a bunch of rs cheaters.

I doubt we'd get very far in TV or radio advertising on that sum of money, but thanks for the suggestion. You also don't seem to have very accurate numbers for stream views.

Wow you out in force today
Maybe you don't like hearing the truth at Jagex, and now feel the need to justify what you all doing there.

Yeah, two mods on one thread - it must be like Christmas :P

I don't mind justifying what we do, since it's actually an important part of keeping RuneScape going, even though you didn't seem to understand the point of it at the time. However, discussing things with you doesn't seem useful, since you simply called it "bullshit", so please don't expect further replies.

But rs in 07 was the best rs time ever, and now we've got 90% of hopeless staff who no nothing of how 07actually was back then, giving us all this crap that 07 dosnt need

In fact almost the entire OSRS team were players or Jmods (or both) in 2007, and even earlier in some cases. I get that you don't see the need for these events - even though it's been explained to you - but I'm afraid we're not offering to stop even if you dislike seeing newsposts about them.

Curious as to why ash doesn't have a come back to the accusations of these streamers being connected to rwt, account servicing and overall cheating?

Just as the Support team doesn't wander over and comment on programming the game, I don't weigh in on rule enforcement. It certainly wouldn't come with any reliable info for you. Anyway, whatever you don't like about the players in question, they demonstrably do draw a crowd, and we can use that to benefit the game. (Sometimes they raise stupendous amounts of money for charity too, which gets a certain amount of respect from me even if it's not strictly part of the gameplay.)

There's not much point engaging in a discussion with people whose premise is that anything we say must be a cover-up. They're entitled to believe what they please, I'm sure :)

I was around in the days of mini-clip so I'd say new players from streaming is probably the best pool you could choose from. I'd just like to know the sparc mac situation for my own personal agenda. Thanks ash.

Me too - it really brought in an incredible number of new players. Best deal Jagex ever struck, I suspect. I suppose the closest equivalent these days would be Steam, though apparently we've run the numbers for that one and concluded that the extra exposure wouldn't be worth it for the fees we'd owe them. I dunno anything about the situation you're asking about, though - sorry.
