Currently the NXT client has very little multi-core capabilities, using 100% of a single core and 1-3% on other cores combined (On a system with 4 cores)

GPU utilization is sitting at around 53% utilization as it's being bottle-necked by my single-core performance.

This results in 25-30 FPS (Ultra settings) with a lot of resources untouched.

Thermal throttling isn't a bottleneck either, after running Prime95 for around 30 minutes the highest core temperature was 68 C, and running the Unigine Heaven benchmark for a similar time resulted in a GPU temperature of 70.

System Information
Operating System: Linux 4.9.0-8-amd64 x86_64
Memory: 15.6 GB

Processor Information
Name: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Topology: 1 Processor, 4 Cores
Base Frequency: 4.10 GHz (Overclocked)

GPU Information
GeForce GTX 970
Driver 384.130

Edit: This appears to be a Linux specific problem

Seems like you shouldn't be getting 100% use of a single core of an Intel Core i5-3570K. Sure, it is Ivy Bridge, it is a bit old, but I have a Sandy Core i7-2600K and I don't have 100% use of a single core.

Are you on all ultra settings? That was the environment in which this was observed.

Fine. I messed with my graphics settings just to check for you. I selected the Ultra preset and logged in to world 3 F2P at the GE. I had about 15 FPS with 94% GPU load according to the GPU-Z program. That isn't a surprise. I have an AMD Radeon HD 7750. Normally I turn down or off certain settings so I can get about 40 FPS. My rs2client.exe process was at 13% CPU utilization according to Task Manager. I'm in Windows 7. I maximized the window running the client. I have a 2560 x 1080 screen. The NXT client is meant to be less dependent on the performance of the CPU than the legacy Java client. I think even if you were using a Java client you still shouldn't have the game using 100% of a CPU core.

There's definitely something wrong with that performance, as that's far from what's expected from the CPU.

I'm sitting here on an i7 6700k. The relative single-threaded performance between the two processors is around 16% (ignoring the OC). My highest usage on a single core is currently less than 30% similarly running in ultra graphics on a gtx 970.

You shouldn't be seeing even 50% utilisation on a single core under these conditions.
(I used to run a stock i5 2500k at 60-75fps, to add a little anecdotal evidence)

Was easy to get over 60 FPS with the same settings on Windows along with a fair core utilization, this problem seems to be specific to Linux (Can't test mac as I don't have the money to throw away :P)

It's also odd that VSync is permanently set to "Adaptive" on Linux while it can be changed on Windows.

It makes me sad that Jagex has abandoned Linux users.

Reinstalled Debian from scratch for further clarification, same symptoms as before.
