Read this if you are having trouble running NXT and are unable to update your Intel drivers (and have already followed the instructions in the "Ready for NXT-Drivers" thread).

This post will only be useful for people that use Intel graphics as their main graphics device. If your computer has two then this is not recommended, as the other device will likely be your main GPU for gaming. Also, the issues this is most likely to fix would be graphical corruption and other graphics issues. It is not likely to help with caching, loading, sound issues etc.

It has come to our attention that some people with Intel integrated GPUs are having trouble updating to the latest Intel drivers. The symptoms are that you are told your graphics drivers are out of date, but when you try to update them, you are told there are no newer ones to update to. This appears to be happening because Intel allows some computer system manufacturers to ship PCs with altered versions of the official drivers. The purpose of this is to allow them to add extra features, but unfortunately the manufacturers do not always go to the effort to keep their drivers in sync with the latest Intel ones, so they drift out of date and do not get the latest updates.

There is a solution to this, and that is to uninstall the manufacturers drivers and install the official ones. There are instructions on how to do this here:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005469.html

Note however, that doing this is at your own risk. Intel say you "risk losing functionality and causing other technical issues", and it's very hard to predict what these will be, if any. Most likely if your PC manufacturer has added any extra features you will lose these. The benefit is that you should be able to update to the latest drivers and get the latest fixes and updates from Intel.

If this works for you, please let us know as it could be helpful for other people with the same problem.

Thanks!

Here is a second method, for who cannot understand Device Manager method, or don't want to touch Device Manager, probably works on some PC,if you have Windows 10 or 8.1:

- Frist, ensure you have a backup of the manufacturer-customized graphic driver of your PC
- Second, you need to have a stable Internet connection
- Third, download the latest graphic driver from Intel

(How to download manufacturer-customized drivers at page 4)

- Reboot your PC
- After you enter desktop, set Windows Automatic Update to receive and install regular and recommended updates automatically
- Run all existed updates (if there are updates, reboot again before continue)
- Uninstall your manufacturer-customized graphic driver from your PC via Control Panel
- Reboot your PC after you uninstall the graphic driver via Control Panel
- Let your PC to do its work, normally it will find the correct driver via Windows Update or a Microsoft OEM driver in localhost and install it automatically
- After you enter desktop, you should now have a PC unlocked from manufacturer-customized graphic drivers, check Device Manager to see what GPU is running
- If you don't see any specific driver is using by the PC, run Windows Update to see any drivers available
- If your PC succeeds to install graphic drivers via Windows Update, reboot your PC
- Now, try to run the Intel graphic driver installation wizard, if you are lucky, your PC is free from the curse and able to install the Intel original driver

PS: This method has the same risk as force-install posted by Mod Awesome

PS2: This method might not work on some PC manufacturer e.g. Hewlett-Packard (HP), due to these companies bind their drivers to Windows Update
PS3: Uninstalling a graphic driver from a manufacturer-customized PC might result in a PC can never run again without OS reinstall

This is good information, however I wouldn't recommend doing this if you have Nvidia Optimus or AMD Enduro graphics technology in laptops.

Sometimes the OEM (Computer manufacturer) tweak the Intel HD cards to work better with the dedicated mobility chip which provided to increase graphical performance, as the Intel HD card shares resources with the processor and is integrated graphics.

If you update the Intel HD from Intel it could cause issues with the second dedicated graphics card causing the Switching technology not to work correctly as often the dedicated graphics card also gets specific graphical drivers from the OEM.

But if there is just a Intel HD card then it may be worth updating them in this manner.

But thanks for the information :), hopefully it does help people!

In bad side, you can say all these issues caused by some manufacturers don't want to put effort to update device drivers. (Sadly, but it is true, due to maintaining user PC is not their jobs.)

Recently, I fixed a 2016-model Acer PC with Windows 10, the error of the Acer PC was a corrupted manufacturer-customized driver installed on the PC, and the driver showed it was for Windows 8!

Yeah, generally I've tried to get people with this issue to update their video driver through their MFC to make sure they update to the tweaked version.

Unfortunately that can be incredibly difficult to figure out how to do with so many different manufacturers.

driver date is 10/4/2012
driver version is 8.15.10.2869

after uninstalling the old driver it knocked it down to 2009 and changed the name of my graphics to Q45/Q43 Express Chipset. and caused it to shutdown every 20 minutes. used the intel driver update tool to reinstall a new driver. I am having to run onboard graphics because NXT isnt compatible with geforce 210

I am done taking mods advice to try and get nxt to finish caching. Its been stuck at 8.4 gb for 2 days. If anybody knows how to make it finish caching please let me know. I have tried lodestoning walking interacting with the server lobby sitting logging out leaving client open all night. it just downloads a few bytes every couple hours. Mod Mark put me at priority for downloading and I will buy you a dozen big macs.
