Jagex, this is your opportunity to make Desert Treasure a worthwhile quest.

To date, I wonder why I even bothered with a 'master' quest that takes about an hour to complete with moderately hard bosses in taxing environment just for 50k magic xp. I know it unlocks temple at senntisten but comeon, i really want something more than just 50k mage xp for a 1 hour long quest when I couldve gotten 500k an hour mage at abyss.

Before you ask, 'but, ancient magicks,' this is exactly what i want to address. Pre eoc, this was the gem of magic. But post eoc? It's nuked into a meme.

Temple of senntisten was worth the effort because curses are much better than prayer as it should be. But desert treasure is now a quest done to unlock temple at senntisten. that's it, as well as 50k mage xp lol. because in desert treasure's quest, standard spell book is much better than ancient magics. in fact, may players prefer the standard spell book because vuln, and the other 2 spells like stagger and stun, do way more debuffs (10%) than lol 5% from shadow and smoke spells. Even binds from standard spells last twice as long as ice barrage. Heck, even asphyxiate, an ability provided to BEGINNERS on the get go, last way longer and deal more damage than ice barrage.

With the incoming combat diversity 2, standard spellbooks are now also getting effects tied to their elemental spells while ignoring ancients COMPLETELY. What are ancient spell books for again? Maybe we should reverse the books and have ancients as the beginner book and standard the reward from Desert Treasure.

But before we panic and start going reverse ideology as the last resort, lets talk about improving the current ancient spells. I think what needs to be done is to double the length of binds ice barrage can do, back to its former glory, and increase the debuffs of smoke and shadow to 10%. Also, when combat diversity comes out, make it so that standard book elemental spells only have effects after completion of desert treasure

On a final note, can we stop categorising spells from ancient book into elements? I can marginally accept smoke as wind and ice as water, but come on now: shadow is earth? Blood is fire? seriously, just remove elemental weaknesses from all enemies and replace them with 'weak to magic', and have exceptions where water fiends are immune to fire and water spells as they are now. Besides, in dungeoneering, these elements make no sense anyways. Ive seen an ice giant in daemonheim being WEAK TO WATER. Just scrap these elements and just keep their effects thank you. ~ The way you reject is the way that I choose
