Welcome to my comprehensive guide for managing your own kingdom in Miscellania!

The main aim of this guide is to examine the different methods of managing your kingdom and ultimately making lots of gp (or collecting lots of helpful resources). This guide is to help anyone who is interested in successfully and efficiently managing their kingdom, whether you are an experienced or newly crowned regent.

To get an idea of what managing Miscellania is about before you read my guide, you may like to read the article in Runescape Wiki on this website.

This guide is for players who have completed BOTH the quests, ‘Throne of Miscellania’ and ‘Royal Trouble’. Although you can begin managing your kingdom after completing the first quest, it isn’t recommended, so I will assume that you have completed both quests.

¤ Credits and Thanks ¤

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this guide in one way or another:

¤ Tristan Dag1 (name has changed since)- It was an original 'Guide to a Kingdom' created a few years ago that first made me realise how profitable collecting maples from your kingdom can be. I may have never began managing my kingdom otherwise.
* The players who have made suggestions and constructive criticisms.
¤ Everyone who has bumped this guide for me .
¤ Anyone who has posted their kingdom results.
¤ People who have noticed small mistakes, so I can fix them.

See the next post for the table of contents which will make this guide easier for you to navigate.

Note: The prices and best choice for resources are outdated. They will not be updated sorry. You can use information in the guide to work it out yourself.

¤ Requirements ¤

There are surprisingly a large amount of requirements to manage your kingdom with success, so I have decided to split them up into sections.

¤ Quests ¤

In order to manage your kingdom, you must have completed ‘Throne of Miscellania’ and ‘Royal Trouble’. Without these two quests, you will be unable to do anything! Completing both quests allows you to pay 75k a day, rather than just 50k if you had only finished one quest. The ‘Throne of Miscellania’ quest also has a number of prerequisite quests, but these will be easy for any avid adventurer. It is also recommended that you complete ‘Fairy Tale Part 1’ and unlock the fairy ring transportation system (discussed later) in ‘Fairy Tale Part 2’. You do not even need to complete 'Fairy Tale Part 2’ (or satisfy the skill requirements). You just need to get up to the part which unlocks the fairy ring transport system.

¤ Money – 1.35 mil ¤

Before you begin managing your kingdom, you must have a spare 1.35 mil. The reason I say this exact amount is explained later in the guide. Although 1.35 mil may seem like a lot to a few people, you will make this back very quickly, so don’t worry. Having more money is a good idea in case you forget, but 1.35 mil is the least you should have.

¤ Pickaxe or hatchet ¤

In order to keep your approval rating high, you will need a pickaxe or hatchet (rune will work well). Although there are other ways to raise your approval rating, mining coal or cutting maples/teaks are generally considered the fastest. Normal experience is not gained while improving your rating.

¤ Bank space ¤

Having enough bank space is very important as you will need somewhere to store all those resources collected by your subjects on Miscellania. 15 bank spaces are usually enough to store all the resources collected, but if you don’t have enough you will have to go back to a bank to make room. Advisor Ghrim will tell you how much space you need.

¤ Getting there ¤

A few different methods of getting there include:

¤ Ring of Wealth ¤
The ring of wealth, when charged, has a teleport option that can take you to Miscellania. It only holds 4 charges, so will have to be recharged.
¤ Teleport scroll ¤
A teleport scroll to Miscellania provides a teleport to the island, and can be obtained from treasure trails or purchased from the GE.

¤ Fairy rings ¤

This method uses the fairy ring network (unlocked part way through the quest ‘Fairy Tale Part 2’). The fairy ring code for Miscellania is C I P. The most commonly used method to gain access to the fairy rings is by entering the fairy ring between Edgeville and the Grand Exchange, which you can get to with a glory teleport to Edgeville (followed by a short run east). Also, if you have a slayer ring, a slayer ring teleport will put you right next to a fairy ring saving you a little bit of time. Make sure you have a dramen or lunar staff equipped if you have not completed Fairy Tale III.

¤ Spirit tree ¤

This option is only available if you have 83 farming and a grown spirit tree planted on Etceteria, which is the island next to Miscellania.

¤ Enchanted Lyre ¤

You can also use an enchanted lyre to teleport to Relekka, and from there you can take a boat ride to get to your kingdom in Miscellania. To enchant your lyre, you will need to offer a raw shark (or other raw fish) which will give it two more charges.

¤ House teleport (Relekka) ¤

If you have your house in Relekka, you can use the 'teleport to house' spell and run to the boat which will take you to your kingdom. If you have completed the quest 'Love Story' you can use chipped teleport tablets to get to Relekka without having to move your house.

¤ Walking there ¤

If you teleport to Camelot and walk to Relekka you will be able to take the boat to the island of Miscellania.

¤ What to do – Weekly Routine ¤

This part of the thread is a rough check list of what to do every week. I have decided to split it up into days. Once you have managed your kingdom for a few weeks, this will all be very obvious.

Throughout the guide, I suggest collecting your resources once a week, but you can do it whenever it suits you. You could collect your resources each day, every 3 days, each week or even as seldomly as every few months.

¤ Day 1 *

Raise approval rating to 100%. Deposit 1.35 mil (or more) into the coffers by speaking to Advisor Ghrim. Collect any previously gathered resources.

¤ Day 2 - 7 ¤

For the remaining six days, all you need to do is keep your approval rating at 100%. It will go down 1% each day. You can skip a few days, but not too many.

¤ What your coffers look like during the week ¤

At the start of the week, you put in 1350k.

Amount left after day 1: 1275k
Amount left after day 2: 1200k
Amount left after day 3: 1125k
Amount left after day 4: 1050k
Amount left after day 5: 975k
Amount left after day 6: 900k
Amount left after day 7: 825k

So you have spent 525k for the week, but you need to keep a minimum amount of 750k in the coffers at all time (in my view), but by putting in 1.35mil you have an extra day of payments just in case you forget.

The above routine assumes that you collect your resources once every week. You can collect your resources daily, but it means you need to waste time speaking to Advisor Ghrim each day.

¤ Different Resources ¤

One of the roles of managing a kingdom is choosing which types of resources to collect. This is done by speaking to Advisor Ghrim and selecting the ‘How is the Kingdom faring’ option. The options you can choose from are:

Herbs
Flax
Coal
Maple
Tuna and swordfish (In the ratio 10:3. Raw or cooked, you decide.)
Mahogany
Teak
Mahogany and teak
Farming seeds

All these options give bonus resources for a given amount collected:

For every 100 herbs, 1 herb seed is collected.
For every 600 flax, 1 herb seed is collected.
For every 150 coal, 1 uncut gem is collected.
For every 100 maples, 1 nest is collected.
For every 50 tuna (every 65 fish), 1 uncut gem or casket is collected. You could also get a level 1 or 2 clue scroll.
For every 350 mahogany/teaks, 1 nest is collected.

It appears that bonus items reach a cap of 999, so it is best to collect your resources before it has the chance to reach this cap.

¤ Which resources to collect ¤

Although this is a simple question which everyone wants the answer to, it is hard to give an answer because prices vary according to the GE, meaning what was best last week might not be as good this week. However, I will say what is currently best in order:

Herbs > Mahogany > Coal > Maple > Flax > Fish

That order above means it is best to put 10 workers on the first item, and 5 workers on the second item. If you can't choose the second item due to restrictions of being able to choose one of the certain type, then choose the third.

Doing maples varies though as most of the profit is dependent on the seeds you get from the nests and not the maples themselves. If you do not want to take the risk, choose the next best thing.

What do I choose to collect? I usually choose the best option as stated above.

To calculate what is best for you, use the amounts on the next two posts, and multiply those by the prices in the above post (or more up to date prices in the GE database). When seeing how much profit you make from maples, assume that two thirds of the nests contain seeds and that the average seed price is as stated on page 2, post 4 (this average is gained from the data of tree seeds and the prices in the guide).

See page 2, Post 8 (Calculating your own profits) for more relating to the different resources. There you can see the current daily profits, or even calculate it for yourself. The results are based on the prices listed in my price guide.

¤ Resources collected after a day ¤

This post and the next post show the amount of resources collected each day or week, depending on whether you put 10 workers or 5 workers on collecting those resources. 10 workers is a full bar and 5 workers is a half bar. Mahogany and teak amounts may be incorrect, so if you know the correct amount please let me know.

¤ 10 Workers, 1 Day ¤

61 herbs and 0.6 herb seeds
1250 flax and 2.1 herb seeds
546 coal and 3.6 gems
892 maple and 8.9 bird nests
575 fish (442 tuna and 133 swordfish) and 8.8 gems or caskets
223 mahogany and 0.6 bird nests
301 teak and 0.9 bird nests
261 mahogany/teak and 0.7 bird nests
Farming seeds (varies a lot. If you have information, let me know)

* 5 Workers, 1 Day ¤

30 herbs and 0.3 herb seeds
625 flax and 1 herb seed
272 coal and 1.8 gems
446 maple and 4.5 bird nests
286 fish (220 tuna and 66 swordfish) and 4.4 gems or caskets
111 mahogany and 0.3 bird nests
150 teak and 0.4 bird nests
130 mahogany/teak and 0.4 bird nests
Farming seeds (varies a lot)

Also note, the ‘Mahogany and teak’ amounts refer to the total amount, not each (for example 260 mahogany and teak means roughly 130 of each).
