What's funny is that we'd probably have support for crypto at this point if IVP was still in charge. They've been investing in the crypto business lately, and it's a little known fact that IVP was invested in twitter when all the Jmods began flocking over there.
Back in February 2015, Jagex did partner with a couple of bitcoin payment service providers, so that they could accept payments in bitcoins. As that is no longer available, one can assume that there was not enough interest or activity in that payment method to make it worthwhile.

Accepting crypto currencies would mean Jagex has to update the prices of everything on a daily basis because they are extremely volatile and fluctuate too much. Currencies controlled by national banks and supernational organisations are more stable because it is required for businesses to make deals across borders.
