Who doesn't remember the old combat equipment from Fist of Guthix? Probably many given how they are low to medium leveled equipment. Despite this, some are actually best in slot for F2P.

Now what is wrong with these combat equipment? The degradation system of this is prehistorically awful.

The degradation system of Fist of Guthix combat equipment is from pre-EoC (2012!), where pieces of equipment have their % charges in their name. For FoG equipment, these run in steps of 20. Using quick chat, you can easily find all equipment (and older, removed ones) when you search for '80'. In the past that may have been fine and all, but since EoC it has become severely outdated.

The weapon diversity beta gave me the opportunity to fully test them out for free, only to realize that these pieces degrade at some random moment in combat. Sometimes they degrade after an hour of combat, and sometimes after attacking 5 times. There's also no precise way to tell how many charges you have left, if there are even numerical charges in the first place. Unnecessary if you ask me.

Barrows equipment used to suffer the same way (in steps of 25), until an update on 1st September 2015 where they have been updated to the current degradation system. FoG equipment, unfortunately, was left untouched.

Because of this I would like to suggest to update the Fist of Guthix combat equipment to use the current degradation system. This means, just as with Barrows equipment:
- Introduce a New, Used and Broken variant of each item with around 30k-60k amount of charges max. Only the broken variant is tradable.
- The older items are kept in-game and upon equipping one would convert it to one of the three variants with charges depending on the % of charges this item had.
- Optionally, repairing can be done on any used state, with costs scaled depending on % charges to repair and rounded up. Repair and costs on broken variants remain the same.

Fog was the only minigame that I liked and i would play it now if there were players.
Would be cool if they allowed to upgrade Gud raider chainbody to platebody with fog tokens.

I guess while a mechanical fix certainly is in order they probably should re-imagine degradation for FoG as a whole: It's low and medium levelled equipment with a degradation mechanic - and if the battle robes weren't f2p that stuff would just be dead. And well - why would you touch any of the other variants at all?

To fix the issue as a whole I'd suggest the following:

- Remove the currently existing degradation mechanic from FoG combat items entirely, they all will be freely tradeable as a consequence.
- Optional: Introduce a Stone of power fragment used to empower any FoG robes for 10 hours of combat. Empowered robes are for members only, boosted to tiers 55, 65 and 75 respectively and revert back to the regular variant as soon as it runs out of charges. The fragment should cost 150 tokens (the former cost of recharging battle robe tops) and could either be tradeable or untradeable (I'd suggest tradeable to enable another layer of money making). If tradeable, free players could buy the fragments, but not use them.

The shields would require more work for obvious reasons.
Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
Quick Fixes: Invention

This would work.
