1.1 - How the FC works

Anyone may call or host portables.

Looking for a portable
:

- Ask kindly in the FC if there are any active locations of the portable you need. If there aren't any, either start one up and host yourself, wait around patiently or come back later. Please remember to thank the caller and hosts.

If muted, ask through Quick Chat: "Where can I get item: Portable (...)?"

F2P: Forges, Crafters, Braziers and Ranges are F2P. F2P hosts are very rare in the FC, therefore do not expect active F2P locations all of the time. We recommend checking these locations as F2P players usually tend to host there: W3, 11, 17 & 29 at Combat Academy or the G.E.

Hosting a portable
:

- State in the FC which portable(s), world, location and possibly the length of time you’re going to be hosting for. Please note that we only call popular portable locations listed below on post 1.4.

NOTE: Please wait around 5 minutes before calling a location dead. The host may be AFK/restocking or someone else may take over hosting especially if the location is crowded.

Calling a portable
:

- Gather from the FC any announced locations by hosts or players and note them for calling when requested. You may verify the location by checking it, if necessary. Please make sure, if possible (as it can be difficult to determine), that the host has agreed to share their location when announced by a player.

Abbreviations
:

For abbreviations and detailed information on portables and locations, please refer to posts 1.3 and 1.4 below.

Any stated number stands for the world.

Example:

R99ca
= Ranges, world 99, Combat Academy.

1.2 - Rules

Read the rules before using the FC. Only one warning will be given - spammers and flamers may be kicked on sight.

All Jagex rules apply

No spam
- Any type of spam is not allowed.

No trading
- Any sort of trading is not allowed.

No flaming or complaints
- Be polite and respectful. Rude, disruptive and offensive behaviour will not be tolerated. Complaints should always be taken to ranks through PM, and not in the FC.

Off-topic allowed
- as long as it's not offensive, argumentative or spamming the chat (if someone asks for a location, stop and then resume).

English only
- If you must explain something to someone who does not speak English, please do it in PM.

No asking for donations
- Do not ask for or encourage players to donate in the FC. Feel free to ask in public, but do not spam, beg or demand for them. If someone asks if they can donate in the FC, please refer them to the hosts.

No lobbying
- Players in the lobby will be removed periodically by ranks to free space in the FC.

No host trolling
- Please follow simple and common hosting etiquette. Do not troll, lack respect and convenience, host and be a nuisance about it or not follow the rules in general. Do not place portables away from the bank especially with the intent of trolling and griefing, by making players constantly walk back and forth between them and the bank. It is a huge inconvenience, overall inefficient and also generates lag. We only call and allow locations where portables can be placed next to the bank, and they are expected to be placed accordingly and appropriately. Otherwise, your location will not be called and you will potentially be removed/banned from the chat.

No clan recruiting
- Asking players to join your clan or looking for clans in the FC is not permitted.

No advertising
- Do not ask players to buy something for you off the G.E, request assist, lend items, team up or anything that would require them to meet you somewhere, nor should you advertise anything unrelated to portables on or off the RuneScape website. This FC's only purpose is to share portable locations.

No left-click placers near portables
- Placers such as clan vexes, banners, markers and other deployable left-click items that may block and interfere with the portables or the bank should be placed away.

No OSRS, BETA or Ironman players
- These players cannot use portables. They will not be allowed to stay.

No more than 3 portables will be called per location
- No more than 3 portables per location may be called. If you are a host, please do not host more than 3 portables at once, as good as your intentions may be. Calling too many portables at the same place overcrowds the location, making some players lag and is very inefficient overall. If the host still wishes to do so, they are free to, but only 3 of their portables will be called. Multiple hosts are fine, but a maximum of 3 only per location will be called. Callers will use their best judgement and call the 3 most convenient ones, which takes into account factors such as priority, availability, placement and stability.

Do not ask for pulse cores
- We track and call portable locations, not pulse cores. Asking for them is disruptive for that reason in addition to the fact that they are too random and no one can really give you an answer. If someone happens to mention that they are being used at their location, that is fine, but do not ask for them and expect or demand an answer.

1.4 - Popular Locations

Portables are only called in the FC at these locations.

Combat Academy - (CA)
: North-west of the Lumbridge Lodestone, west of the furnace.

Lumbridge Crater - (LC)
: West of Lumbridge lodestone, behind the castle.

Barbarian Assault - (BA)
: Barbarian Outpost bank, north-west of Seer's Village. The fastest way to get there is by using a Games necklace (option 2) to teleport to Barbarian Outpost.

Shantay Pass - (SP)
: South of al-Kharid, you can use a Glory amulet to teleport right next to the chest.

Burthorpe - (BU)
:
At the bank, use Burthorpe lodestone.

Castle Wars - (CW)
: West of Yanille. Easiest way to get there is by using a Ring of dueling, option 2.

Prifddinas - (P)
: Elf city - at the Tower of Voices (GE), unless otherwise specified at any other bank/district in the city i.e. Meilyr, Ithell, Trahaearn, Max Guild (MG) etc. Plague’s End quest is required.

VIP
: Menaphos VIP skilling area (Imperial district), north-west of the lodestone. T7 Menaphos reputation is required.

Clan Citadels
: Enter as a guest by joining the portal at the Clan camp from any world east of the Crafting Guild. The fastest way to get to there is via a skill's necklace teleporting to the Craft guild or a clan vexillum, which will teleport you right next to the portal. Hosts will place these portables at their keep. The Citadel is often used to keep a disruptive player out with the CC's ban list preventing them from joining their Citadel.

F2P: Due to the rarity of F2P locations, they may be hosted and called anywhere and not only as per the locations listed above.

Locations to Avoid

The following locations should only be advertised as a last resort, if there aren't any alternative locations. Once there are other locations, these will not be advertised and players calling them will be ignored or removed if told not to call them by a rank. As a host, it is recommended to host in any other world if you like the actual location. Otherwise, it is very likely your location will be ignored during calling.

World 2 Burthorpe
- This location on world 2 is very inefficient to host at, since it is usually random players dropping random portables inconsistently. Lag is also a major issue, as it is a very popular location for players to hang out, advertise, drop divine locations, recruit for clans and many other activities. It is too public for us to enforce our rules.

1.5 - FAQ

1. Can I stay in the FC if I have already found my portable location, or not even using a portable?

- This is allowed, especially if you are a helper (host, caller etc) or at least contributing to or engaging in the chat in any way, even watching. Otherwise, especially if you are not interacting or paying attention at all, it'd be appreciated if you leave so others who wish to use the FC can join.

2. Why are lobbiers removed?

- Players in the lobby are almost always inactive or AFK, hence taking up space needlessly. They are removed periodically to make room for players who need to use the FC to be able to join. If you need to lobby or log out, please leave the FC beforehand and rejoin once you are active or online again to avoid being removed while being in the lobby, as they are removed on sight without distinction – ranks can neither tell how long a player has been lobbied nor whether they are a helper.

3. Why was I removed from the chat?

- If the message said 'You have been removed from this channel', it is not a kick/ban (as opposed to kicked) and you can instantly rejoin the chat. This happens in two cases: Either the chat was full and a rank joined, and a random unranked player was automatically removed by the FC system in order to make room for the rank, or the FC was reset. For other cases (if you are unable to rejoin), however, please refer to the image below from the Wikia:

4. Does the FC call herb burners?

- They are not called as they are not really in the group of 'portable' stations. They are also not as efficient and widely used and available as actual portable stations, and are very limited and niche.

5. Why is hosting at the GE (Varrock) not allowed?

- Portables cannot be placed directly next to the bank. This is inefficient and also generates a huge amount of lag with many people walking back and forth.

6. Doesn't removing off-worlders from the FC remove people who may have just joined and are looking for portable locations?

- No. As can be seen on post 2.2, off-worlders are removed through a procedure which ensures that this is never the case and that they are always given a warning beforehand which provides the time to find a location and hop to a portable world. The purpose is to remove players on off-worlds that are either completely AFK and/or not using the FC in any way, and needlessly taking up space. We have extremely limited space and options, and this is the only thing that can be done (as a last resort) apart from lobby removals. This will no longer be the case once the FC capacity is increased.

7. Why aren't on-worlders removed, since they have already found their portable locations?

- This is completely impossible. It would require ranks to make a list of people who have found their locations which is updated every minute (apart from being unable to tell whether they have found them in many cases), as well as non-stop on-world kicking with minute intervals, which is not only an enormous amount of effort, activity and pressure but also contributes to a huge amount of chat spam. Most importantly, a lot of on-worlders may be hosts, callers and helpers in general, as well as players engaging in the chat, reporting and giving updates on locations (without these essential updates and feedback, the state of active locations is completely unknown and the locations are inaccurate as a result), and it is impossible for ranks to distinguish between them and other players. Additionally, it prevents players who’ve found a location from re-entering the chat for another location in case their location is dead.

1.6 - Information & Tips

- Maximum efficiency: Bank presets (+ BoB if applicable), fixed angle/zoom, hotkeys (action bar binds to perform skilling actions, space bar for pop-up interface confirmation) and various XP boosts (i.e. clan avatar, skilling outfits and other bonuses, items and consumables). Dungeoneering scrolls for skilling (i.e. cleansing, efficiency, dexterity) also work very well along with portables. Efficiency can be furthered and increased by being tick perfect with banking and clicking, and using tick-efficient methods (i.e. 3-tick cooking), which is completely non-AFK.

- Performing an action on a portable binds you to it: After using a portable for the first action, you do not have to click on it again to perform another action (or to skill), and can carry on skilling through only using your inventory (or action bar) while receiving the portable's boosts and benefits, as long as you are next to it (within a 1-tile radius). This is very useful, especially with right-click options as it eliminates the need to constantly right-click the portable to skill. For example, if you are fletching arrows, right-click the fletcher, choose Ammo and confirm. After the action is done, you may simply use your inventory or action bar to fletch the arrows, without needing to touch the fletcher again.

- All portable skills are artisan skills, and every artisan skill (except Runecrafting) has a portable.

- A portable's left-click option can be changed through the right-click Configure option.

- A crafter cannot be used as a loom or spinning wheel.

2.1 - Ranks - System & Information

System & Information:

Recruit+
ranks are official ranks of the FC. To earn a recruit rank as a smiley rank, merely act as you expect a rank would, through being active: Helping with calling, hosting, enforcing the rules, giving feedback etc. (it may be some time before we offer you a rank).

Ranks are updated monthly, based on activity, performance and attitude. You are only required to be seen actively helping the FC at the very least once a month to maintain your current rank. However, more activity is expected and required the higher the rank is (from Recruit to Lieutenant).

Promotions are earned by going beyond of what is expected from your rank and its roles. Listen to admin+ feedback and provide official notice (on sheets or by pming an admin+) if you will be inactive for more than 2 weeks to avoid demotion. If no longer interested in being a rank, please resign (request it to be removed) instead of going inactive (leaving without word).
Ranks are allowed to be excused once a month if away for 2"weeks or more, though this may vary in some cases.

* Call and/or host for the FC. If there is more than one caller at the same time, please do it collaboratively and/or cooperatively.
* Help keep our sheet locations up to date.
* Explain FC abbreviations to players.
* Follow and enforce the rules.
* Refer players to this thread.
* Thank hosts and anyone helpful in the FC.
* Avoid going inactive without letting admin know.
* Prevent and do not get involved in any arguments/debates. Kindly ask them to take it to PM.
* Leave the FC if you are AFKing or not engaging with the FC for a while.
* If having a stressful day, please exit the FC.
* PM a moderator+ to request a ban, or request it on sheets.
* Check this thread regularly for FC updates.
* Bump and post active locations on this thread as needed.

2.2 - Ranks - Roles

Stripe ranks:

Recruit (Editor):

- Edit and update sheets.
- Active at least once a month.

Corporal (Editor):

- Edit and update sheets.
- Active at least a few times a month.

Sergeant (Editor):

- Edit and update sheets (required).
- Active at least several times a month.

Kick roles (Corp+):

- Remove all players lobbying from the FC periodically (stating our rule or announcing their removal first).
- Remove off-worlders as a last resort from the FC, when the chat is nearly full (as per the
off-world removal procedure
below).
- Remove players from the chat after one warning if they break a rule (spammers, trolls, complainers and flamers or players who are very offensive towards another player can be kicked on sight). If someone is accused by a player, investigate it further by asking other players or checking yourself before taking any action. If uncertain regarding a kick, feel free to ask Moderator+ for help.

Off-world removal procedure

1. Gather the list of all portables to see which worlds they are being hosted on.
2. Make a list of the names of players who are off-worlding at that time (to avoid removing new players joining from an off-world).
3. Announce the removal of all off-worlders in 1-2 minutes.
4. Proceed to remove the players on the list who are still off-worlding.

2.3 - Veteran - How to become one

Veterans are official ranks who have actively, consistently and successfully been able to upkeep and maintain their official rank (same rank or higher) within the FC for at least 6 months. Being demoted for any reason, such as going inactive for a few weeks without giving official notice, results in a failure of upkeep and hence resetting their upkeep progress (back to 0 months). This information is tracked on the sheets.

Once approved as Veteran, they have the following perks:

- Apart from being listed as their current rank, they will also gain the title Veteran next to their names on the sheets, in addition to other benefits and privileges.

- In cases of inactivity, they would not be demoted past Corporal. However, if they are inactive for a period of at least 3 months, their rank would be automatically retired.

- They would be able to remain as a smiley rank indefinitely if they wish to retire (or are retired for inactivity).

2.4 - Smiley - Information & Application

Smiley
ranks are not official ranks. They are hosts/helpful players
only expected to follow our rules
.

Being a smiley is a requirement to become an official rank (Recruit+). If interested, and you meet our expectations on what we look for potential recruits, you would eventually be offered a Recruit rank position. Keep in mind being an official rank would require a lot more commitment from you.

Advantages of being a Smiley:

- They can join the FC even if it's full.
- They will not be kicked during lobby removals, if in lobby.
- They will avoid being automatically removed from the chat whenever the FC is full or during FC resets.

They'll be offered to helpful players in the FC by admin ranks or you may apply for one if you haven't been lucky enough to be noticed by admins yet.

You can also PM a rank for an invite to our Discord server.

Smiley terms:

Whether you are a former smiley or a new player applying, your smiley will only be active for
1 month
. To renew it, you may request it again by simply making a new post here or by PMing an admin+ preferably a couple of days before it expires at the least - please keep this in mind!

If you were a smiley or a recruit+ rank in this FC during the past 6 months, you do not need to fill this out; simply request to be smilied again by making a new post here or by PMing an admin+.

Application
:

1. Have you fully read our rules under post 1.2?

2. Do you acknowledge and agree to the smiley terms?

3. What is expected from smiley ranks?

4. If you are genuinely applying to help the FC as a smiley, in what ways do you wish to help?

5. Do you have any goals you wish to achieve with portables and the FC?

6. Would you be interested in or intend to become an official rank in the future?

3.1 - Double XP weekends

Portables
- Friends Chat (FC) - main channel.

Portables
- Clan Chat (CC) - overflow channel if the main channel (FC) is full. To enter, simply join as a guest by going to the guest clan chat tab and typing Portables in. Use /// to chat.

Boxes
- Friends Chat (FC) - portable deposit boxes (banks). Full information below, in the next section (3.2).

Sheets
- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16Yp-eLHQtgY05q6WBYA2MDyvQPmZ4Yr3RHYiBCBj2Hc/edit?usp=drive_web

Twitter
- https://www.twitter.com/PortablesRS

Discord
- https://discord.me/portables

Please use the CC instead of the FC if possible, in order to leave room for players who are not aware of the CC to be able to join the FC.

Sheets and Twitter are the ideal and preferred sources to be using for locations (over FC/CC), for chat capacity reasons and the ability to have them anywhere and at any time without needing to enter the chats in-game.

There are two types of locations:

1. Dynamic (normal) locations:

These are normal (spontaneous) locations that may change, as with any other day in the FC. They are tracked and called by callers as they pop up and appear throughout the weekend.

2. Static (set) locations:

There are set locations for each portable. Set locations make it easier for people to find portable locations, especially if the FC is full.

All portables are hosted at Combat Academy.

Range - 39 CA
Mill - 49 CA
Forge - 59 CA
Well - 69 CA
Fletcher - 79 CA
Brazier - 89 CA
Crafter - 99 CA

Burthorpe (bank) is a back-up location for all of these worlds.

F2P Locations:

F2P do not have set locations, but if you want to host or are trying to find a location, try worlds 3/11/17/29 at the Combat Academy or GE.

Other information:

- Please try to leave the FC/CC once you've found your location, in order to make room for others.

- Hosts are highly encouraged to host in the set locations provided above, in order to ensure that they are constantly active and ongoing, and to make it easier and more accessible for everyone.

- Ranks will keep track of/call at least one location per portable. Due to there being numerous locations for every portable, ranks cannot keep track of or call all of them, and as hosts feel free to call your own locations if they are not called and to help out.

- Any help in calling is always greatly appreciated. Ranks are simply volunteers as everyone.

- Portable deposit boxes (banks) are only tracked and called in
Boxes

3.2 - Boxes - Friends Chat

Boxes
- Friends Chat (FC) - is used to host and track portable deposit boxes (banks). They are active primarily during DXP weekends and mostly used for Summoning training.

They can be placed for 1 hour anywhere to deposit any items without the need of a bank (you cannot withdraw items from your bank with them), and are obtained from Balthazar's raffle.

You need to be standing on the exact tile you wish to place the box on, since it is deployed under you (unlike other portables).

Warning: The owner can enable it to be private (not shareable to the rest).

Taverley Summoning Training Method

This method is the best for speed and highest xp/hour.

You can combine spirit gems (and stack up to 1000 charges), making them very efficient to use.

Go to world 99 (main world, but there will be others) and head to Taverley Summoning shop.

1. Your inventory must contain charms, pouches, shards, and your tertiary ingredients noted.

2. Sell as many ingredients as you wish to Pikkupstix or Magestix (closer to the obelisk). Selling 500 at a time is highly recommended, for minimum and ideal shop stock disappearance rate, since they disappear at a rate of 1% (of the total stock) every 1 minute.

The ingredients must be tradeable in order to be sold. No other players will see the items you've sold to the NPC's (they are instanced). Make sure you buy a few hundred extra ingredients if you're planning on doing a lot of Summoning, due to some being lost in the shop stock disappearance rate.

3. Buy them back unnoted from Pikkupstix or Magestix, for a very negligible money loss.

4. Once you make your pouches, deposit them in the portable deposit box that is next to you and they will be sent to your bank.

Amlodd Summoning Training Method

This method is for Amlodd district in Prifddinas.

You cannot sell your (noted) tertiary ingredients to Lord Amlodd (as opposed to the Taverley shop).

This is slower (less xp/hour) than the Taverley training method, however it's well worth doing (especially for blues) during Amlodd VoS hour due to the 20% xp boost, giving higher xp/charm.

Yaks are combined with portable deposit boxes for more efficient and less frequent bank trips, as follows:

1. Fill your inventory with charms, pouches, shards and tertiary ingredients (unnoted), and fill your yak with more tertiary ingredients.
2. Head to the obelisk in Amlodd district.
3. Make an inventory of pouches.
4. Deposit them in the portable deposit box.
5. Withdraw more ingredients from your yak.
6. Make another inventory of pouches.
7. Deposit them in the portable deposit box.
8. Head back or teleport (with an attuned crystal teleport seed equipped in the pocket slot) to Ithell bank to refill your inventory and yak.

Locations are also shared by players and hosts in the FC when they appear during Amlodd VoS hour.

You will most likely find some of the active Taverley worlds listed in the FC's name.

Be careful and avoid accidentally depositing your stackable ingredients!

Computer, I hope you've taken the time to read and understand the rules as there are two main ones which apply in your case, apart from encouraging trolling and spamming in the FC which has majorly misled players, been hugely disruptive and, in the midst of all the nuisance and chaos, gotten some innocent players caught up in the mess and accidentally kicked as a result. A rank who was involved in a wrongful kick (as can be seen from above) was also given some strong and final feedback for the future.

You can see (from the rules) why we were unable to call your location, and that it is not out of personal spite as you or others at your location might have taken it. The overcrowding and lag generated causes more harm and inconvenience than the good caused by hosting all portables, which always results in a lot of players avoiding the location and looking for others as it becomes unplayable and a waste as well. Otherwise, it would actually be much easier for us if we could just call all portables at one location (and put that location as the FC title) rather than put in the effort of actively tracking and calling several locations efficiently.

Sometimes people can be caught up in a huge moment of misjudgement which is natural, the most important thing is that you are aware, have acknowledged it and learned from the experience, and use your timeout for reflection. Your ban is not permanent and first-time bans usually aren't, and it'll be lifted after a couple of weeks. We are glad that you've learned and understood, as that is exactly what we always hope to achieve from temp bans and see as a result of taking action, rather than reacting negatively and immaturely (which many unfortunately resort to) and continuing to troll which effectively guarantees permanent action and leads nowhere constructive for anyone. If that helps, no other players were banned.

Thank you for understanding, we appreciate your sincere gesture and hope to see you again in the future.
