Cases like this are why Jagex's charity work is so hypocritical: if they genuinely cared about mental health even one bit, they wouldn't let these cases happen, not even close. You could literally buy the regularly priced $11 monthly membership for 100 years and it wouldn't even be a fraction of the amount that the adult son was able to spend on MTX alone. There's no way Jagex wasn't able to see said person spending all that money without being able to tell that it was unhealthy, yet they did nothing to stop it and just allowed it to happen.

You're basically treating Jagex as if it's one single person, with the exact same viewpoints on mental health. Some portions of Jagex handle the mental health charities, and others handle the microtransactions. It's possible those portions don't overlap, or even speak with each other. For all we know, they have no clue that they're working at cross-purposes.

Anyway, the microtransactions are all right as far as bonds and cosmetics are concerned. But I have never bought spins on Squeal of Fortune or keys on Treasure Hunter, and I never will. The only keys I use are the ones I earn in-game via skilling or in-game rewards. Buying keys/spins is too much like the controversial 'loot box' mechanic for my taste, and I won't participate in it.

That's crazy lol.... I once knew a friend who spent £5000 on a Treasure Hunter promotion, which he had cancelled a home loan to get... unfortunately he no longer plays the game anymore...

Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.

Yep, just like a tobacco company donating to charity for lung cancer. They're mitigating damage that they know they cause.

It is not RS MT's that is driving the addiction, it is the mental health of those that overindulge. If RS MT's were not an establish feature for addicts to take advantage of they would easily find 1001 other outlets for there addiction.
I have never found the need to buy extra spins/keys, if people find this is something they can not resist they possibly need help.
