After reading through several different forums, I have noticed that the largest issue most people seem to have with current comp is reaper, which involves group bossing and difficult bosses. PvM is a large part of the game, and thus I do not think it should be removed from comp. How can somebody have a COMPLETIONIST cape without completing such a large aspect of the game? I have two proposals;

1. Why not test something like buffing a players defense during their first x amount of times at a new boss? The number would take some balancing, but let's say the first 10 encounters just to use an easy number. This would allow players to learn the boss without forcing the team to sacrifice kills in order to teach the new player. Don't give such a buff that it would make it too easy, but just enough to give players with less PvM skill a legit chance.

2. Create a proper practice mode. This allows players to learn and get better at a boss with no risk at the cost of no reward. For group bosses, add bots into the game scaled to the boss, allowing the player to choose which role they would like to be. This could also result in a quick chat option, showing teams how many practice encounters somebody has to prove they are not going to be an issue to the team.

Doing either or both of these would leave people with no excuse. Either the player is just too lazy, or doesn't like PvM, which means they are not a completionist player anyways. This keeps meaning behind the comp cape instead of making it cosmetic by removing the stats and other rewards. This keeps the PvM community happy, and gives the skilling and lore communities a fair chance. Thoughts and feedback?

I agree with your first point. I was so disappointed when this weekend I found out that ED story mode doesn't count for Reaper Crew. If there was an easy mode to get your first kill, that would be super appreciated. Sort of walk around, feel, observe, learn, until you beat the boss, without getting hit from every angle and not knowing what is going on 50% of the time.

For 2: You would still need to find a team, even if you know how to play. And that can be a real hassle. Plus I often have interrupted play-sessions. A group of non-bots won't like it if I have to bail mid-way a complicated boss fight. Group content just brings all kinds of problems. I liked minigames like FoG and Clan Wars, but even those seem to have gotten way more unpopular.

Man, using ED story mode isn't a good example lol, story mode is 90% easier, you could stand still and still beat some of the bosses with revo++. You should be using story and practice mode to familiarise with the boss mechanics so that you can properly tackle the boss on normal mode, but the kc from story/practice mode shouldn't count since you're not really beating the boss as you can ignore many of the mechanics since they barely deal any damage (as this is meant to be less punishing for learners).

They pretty much have said they're doing that, just not exactly how you've worded it.

Assuming I've interpreted what they said in the latest dev blog correctly the comp cape(s) are having their stats removed and moved to being the reward for completing the reaper crew achievement when (I'm assuming) it's just a regular old standard achievement.

Afterall, supposedly people were only going for comp because of the stats due to its usefulness in PVM rather than going for comp for its intended purpose (Mod Jack has even said themselves in a past stream that the completionist cape never meant completing absolutely everything).

So it makes sense to have that be the reward for reaper and then the comp cape(s) themselves will be more than enough of a reward for those it was initially intended for to begin with all those years ago.

All that matters now is how exactly are they going to approach dealing with other reqs. which essentially keep reaper on the newer system by association despite the actual reaper crew achievement being removed from comp altogether.

Imagine in 2019, 7 or so year later, somebody still crying about EoC. Just bc you aren't good at is does not mean it's a bad system. Combat had to evolve past click and wait.
