Ancient Avianese Confluence

Before the flocks of Abbinah were united, they would settle their differences in a neutral island. Or at least to look like they were avoiding the pretense of war.

But the island has song since been ignored. Or at least the avianese tried to forget it due to their rather shameful ancient "negotiation" methods.

The island is dotted with numerous statues to great leaders, champions and diplomats of tge many flocks. Arrayed in a circle around the dais that you might now see in clam citadels.

However, the ancient avianese would negotiate in a rather fowl manner.
For you see, they are birds. And these are statues.
The flocks would caw, squawk, and shrill with the occasional ... You know ... While trying to mix in attempts at diplomacy. Whether it be mineral rights, flock migration passage, and even the occasional political marriage.

Ages of these negotiations, and the millennia that followed with island being unscrubbed has created a fowl stench that would scare off an aberrant specter at 5km.

But the ages have also provided a kindness. For you see, these ancient droppings produced a powerful secondary, that when refined, could help to not only calm the shapeshifters. But might even lead to a permanent cure to their addiction

But alas, the issue: while the island can be transported ... No one can stand the smell.

Phase 1: collect the calcified guano
Phase 2: process it
Phase 3: finish cleaning the statues
Phase 4: potpourri ... Lots and lots of potpourri and incense

Yeah... no... I'm not going to use "the island of excrement" and no that's not how the ancient aviansie resolved their differences. They just murdered one another like civilised people. ;)

Oooh! Design an island? I’ve had this concept for a while, though it may be a bit ambitious/may not fit thematically.

Inverted Ruins

This island, founded a few hundred years after the Aviansies returned to Abbinah, was a city ruled by a wealthy merchant with a hoarding problem. It was at first rather innocent—he mainly just hoarded rare trinkets and money. But this was not enough. At the height of his power, the greedy merchant-king used his mercenary army and Caelomancers to steal entire islands, fusing them to the city. His dream was to become a God and unite all the islands of Abbinah into one gigantic sky-continent. He never attained Godhood—for he failed to locate the Elder Artefact—and his fusing of the islands greatly destabilized the massive, sprawling city, causing it to flip and sink to to the lowest strata of Abbinah.

It still floats in the lowest area of Abbinah, the most dangerous area of the dangerous planet. Players will be exploring around the ruins of buildings on what used to be the underside of the island. Due to its abandonment, various creatures (which players can catch for Hunter exp, and perhaps hand them in to a store at the starter area for some other rewards such as recolorable tail feather overrides) have taken up residence here. Players will need to have a certain Agility level to move around in the ruins. It should also be dangerous to stay out here for too long. Rocks will randomly fall from above, and pervasive lightning—which, like the lightning on Freneskae, is attracted to the player—will be out to zap you.

In addition to the Hunter and Agility, there will also be some entrances to the inside areas of the ruins, but some will be blocked. For some, you may need a certain Agility level (higher than what is needed to climb around in the ruins) to squeeze into, or a certain Thieving level to pick the lock, or Mining to remove rocks blocking the way.

This is a nice idea, but I'm afraid it's heavily outside the scope of a small island. A city island, even one that has been ruined, is something the size of Aquillar which I'm already having to not include in ROP because it'll be too big a graphics drain for this point in time.

Perhaps a smaller version, keeping the mechanics and the lore, but not a city sized?

Island of Lost Feathers
An island that has many feathers. The avianese that travel here come to mourn someone or something they lost.
Each feather contains a fragment of one of their memories.
Each will tell the tail of something that happened on Abbinah, with Armadyl, or the God Wars, etc.

Not all feathers will have a memory. But the feathers can be offered to an altar of memory for prayer xp.
Viewing a feather with a potent memory will award divination xp.
Players will also need to hunt for the various feathers, trying to feel out which ones have memories, and which ones do not.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooh.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh.

I
LOVE
this idea. I really like the idea of finding other feathers across the other islands as well to bring them back to this island to get a bit of XP and a neat little memory.

This is lovely. Elegant and simple, exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. :D

What're your thoughts on my pitched Island if I may ask?

It's a nice idea, but even the "small" graphics you've suggested for it are a fairly substantial amount, certainly using the Lost Grove as a reference made me balk. ;)

But I rather like the lore idea behind it, so there's stuff there that I could potentially adapt. :)

Honestly no need to take my suggestions as gospel if it'll hold the Island/Idea back, the main priority is the Lore idea behind it, if that means time/budget constraints need it to have "Nothing special" graphics then by all means, Narrative beauty is the true beauty :D

For me a cutscene for each feather is a must!

-I like the idea of feathers and memories.

-our hero has been chosen by Taw'Paak is the emissary of armadyl to help preserve the memories of the aviansies from fading away!
then we can role-play an aviansie who starts his own journey seeking the meeting of his god armadyl!

I hope that's a good way to introduce a new divination/agility based minigame, since there are no agility minigames out there.

But isn't realistic. A cutscene isn't a quick and simple thing to implement and so this would very quickly bloat into a LOT of work, more so than is reasonable for the scope of the content.

Could it not be told in a memory of Guthix/Seren/Zaros style way? A small memory that explains the situation?

Is your proposal that the player would take on the role of an aviansie for this? Converting it into effectively a new saga, but aviansie themed? That seems a bit too big an ask, as it would basically need a new miniquest for every memory...

While I haven't been following a lot of the thread...

In regards to Sliske's Endgame being a requirement, maybe you could just pull a "Missing Presumed Death" sort of situation, where the quest is recommended and takes place after Sliske's Endgame, but it isn't a hard requirement that locks out people that might want to experience the Armadyl/Abbinah questline.

Then you could have extra post-quest rewards if you've completed Sliske's Endgame.

Glad the idea helped inspired you.
Figured an idea that combined the method of sharing the memories would make the dev a little simpler.
